That's timely, thanks. Was only looking at this site yesterday: http://www.torchythebatteryboy.com

I am very interested indeed in this if the OP is not.

Many thanks. Might try an ATF fluid flush at the next oil change to see if that helps. Mind you, the rocker is coming off this next week anyway to get vapour blasted.

Does anyone know if the 8v ADY engine has any sort of recirculating valve to assist with engine warm-up? On first starting from cold I am hearing a "ticking" which lasts for about a minute then stops. It is not a bottom end bearing/mechanical type noise; it is definitely from the top end. The noise only about lasts a minute, every time. Rapid ticking and then cuts off. Just wondering if this a recirculating valve at work? Or maybe its just a lazy valve bucket which is ticking until it refills with oil? Just curious as to the possible source of the ticking as this is not a sound I think I need to worry about either way. Cheers, Andrew

Many thanks everyone for the comments and help. Changed the thermostat for a new VW one on Thursday (with David's excellent instructions) and all is now well. Took a run to the NEC on Friday to see the Cycle Show and the gauge is now steadily settled at 88 degrees, rising and falling as expected and with fans coming on as designed. When doing the work I was also able to spot and re-secure the CV joint heat guard which had worked loose and was resting on the drive shaft. Thanks again.

Many thanks indeed tony_ack. Much appreciated. Very helpful fault diagnosis :-)

Have not posted for a long time, mainly due to an extended period overseas. The red VR6 is still in hibernation and the silver VR6 is still in bits awaiting a re-spray. Anyway, back in UK for a while, so I decided to buy a run-around pending completion of the silver VR6 (getting painted soon) and ended up with a third Corrado, a one owner 1996 8v in Midnight Blue with full heated leather interior. A dealer demonstrator for 3 months, then the car was owned by a woman (airline cabin crew). She seems to have absolutely loved the car for the last 17 years and maintained it well, including: a £4800 bill (!) four years ago to replace the entire ABS system (pump, ECU, sensors, loom) to cure a fault; another £500 for a Jetex stainless exhaust in March 13; plus a full suspension change 10k miles ago costing £1200. The car has 152k on the clock, stacks of documented history and seems to be in pretty good condition overall with just a couple of parking dings on the swage line and a small indent in a rear arch. The car was presented with a full service and MOT, and a full detail with corrected paintwork. A few dings and paint chips to sort out; a bit of preventative work to do; the odd fastener needed here and there where garage staff have been lazy; driver's bolster to sort out. Overall it is in pretty good condition. Should be a decent run around, hopefully, given the intention is to use this only until the silver VR6 is back on the road. I enjoyed the 3 hr drive home, especially getting over 40 mpg. Here are the photos taken for the agreed insurance valuation:

Many thanks, David. Where is the stat on the 8V? Do you need to change any plastic housing at the same time?

Hi Matey, Yes, water temp gauge. I have only really done 6 x long runs in the car. The limited town driving has the gauge below and on 70. Much appreciated on the steer. I'll change the thermostat as a first action and see what happens. Any idea where it is on the 8v 2.0l? Cheers

Just wondering if anyone can provide some advise, please. I have a 1996 8v (ADY) which runs with the temperature gauge barely registering 70. The only time the gauge really rises is in standing traffic after a run. I have just done a 180 mile, mainly motorway, run at average of 65 mph and returned 41.3 mpg. The gauge just registered 70. I have confirmed that the fan kicks in at 100-ish and have measured the rad hose temps which all seem to be OK. I have no overheating issues, just the gauge reads low. Mind you, the indicated mpg when the car is under 70 is pants. Is this likely to be a duff temp. gauge sender? Anyone know where this is on an 8V? Is it item 12 (yellow sender) on the attached from VAGCAT? Many thanks.

I'll take the Chipex kit, please, if it is LC5M and unused?
-
Great. You have PM.
-
The boxed up rad, cowl and cover.
-
Do you still have the power steering pump?
-
I'll take this if it is still available? Does the price include postage?
-
Payment done. Thanks
-
Jon, I'll take it. Please PM me the payment details. Andrew
-
Dave, please put me down for one when available. Andrew

OK. Bum information from local parts guy on availability. Thanks

Looking for a pair of these for refurbishing. It is a spring clip with a captive nut for the rear shock absorber lower bolt. The clip sits inside the rear axle arm. It's the equivalent of item 4 on the attached (but not just a loose nut).

I'll take a set please Dave.

I would take 2 pairs.
