  1. Fitted flywheel back on followed by new Sachs clutch kit. Gearbox case degreased and ready to be fitted back on. dremeled the bolts off the manifold between the cat and downpipe, no way they where going to come off with a spanner and a squirt of WD40 :)
  2. Fitted new timing chains, guides and lower tensioner. Then spent 30 mins checking the timing marks 17 times before being happy it was right :)
  3. What about something like a Polo Estate? Plenty of room and a sturdy motor http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2001-VOLKSWAGEN-P ... 4cf482df64

    NOT AGAIN

Sounds like head gasket is seeping oil into the water system and pressurising it hence the oil in the water and over flow from the expansion tank. I would deffo get a compression test completed on a warmed up engine before doing anything else.
  5. Spent the morning getting the gearbox off ready for new chains, guides and clutch to be fitted next week.
  6. Cough, cough  Well, it was said about putting a cup holder on my stand.............Yep, check and a snacks holder is essential I think  A quick effort as I had to go out. Both rings rotate under the stand when not in use :dorky: That is freaking excellent  :salute: now how about a nose scratcher for when you can't take your hands off the wheel
  7. That is excellent, needs a cup holder though :)
  8. I have been playing it since the week before xmas and I must say I'm disaponted. I don't like the physics of the cars or the naff tuning where you can spend 100,000 credits tuning a car and it's still only worth 4000 should you want to sell it !! All I can say is when is Forza 4 due as I will going back to Forza 3 for now me thinks.

    VR6 trivia

I believe the 2.9 (Rado) inlet manifold is different to the 2.8 (Golf) manifold hence what looks like a different rocker cover.
  10. Pretty sure Mk2 golfs/Jetta's etc have the same pump.
  11. Garage have said the alternator is fine but do you have or can you borrow a volt meter to test your self? I doubt very much that you would have managed to get through three batteries. This site shows you how to perform a quick test of an alternator http://www.carbasics.co.uk/How_to_test_ ... rnator.htm
  12. I'll keep my eyes peeled as thats only up the road. thieving To$$ers :bad-words:
  13. Mine went without any mayo in the oil or fillercap just oil in the expansion tank. Get a compression test done first but it sounds like you have a new kettle to me.
  14. Guys, can anyone recommend an engineering firm or garage capable of completing a head skim, valve recut etc for my vr6 who are located in the beds, herts or bucks region? I was tempted to go for an exchange unit from the likes of TSR but at £400 for a basic swap and a grand for an all singing and dancing one doesn't leave me much in the bank for rest of the parts needed.
  15. Standard Camber is 1.2 negative camber but I believe it was suggested on here somewhere if you do drop the car low go for 1 degree negative. I'm also sure that you can only set toe/tracking via one side but off the top of my head I can't remember which, I think it might be right hand although the Bentley manual says left (rack is other way round as it's US based manual) Cost me £70 last time I had it done.
  16. No doubt she didn't see your bright yellow car because she was busy looking at her mobile !!! :mad2: At least you are ok and that's what matters in the long run. Mind you looking at that dent she must have given you a hefty whack so I would be considering a visit to the docs in the morning if you have not been to A & E already. Whiplash hurts more the next day, speaking from experience.
  17. Well Google found this http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4397426 any use?
  18. Following my post earlier (http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewto ... =1&t=97668) regarding the dodgy looking sludge that has setup home in my expansion tank I ran a compression test today which wasn't entirely conclusive. Engine warmed up to so that the oil temp registered on the MAF, disabled sparks and with the throttle held open by my trusty assistant (wife) who was also in control of the starter duties :salute: . Now I was expecting one or two of the cylinders to show up a drop but as the results below show there's not much in it, so I ran it again but again without much difference. No:1 = 158 / 157 No:2 = 159 / 165 No:3 = 160 / 155 No:4 = 160 / 165 No:5 = 154 / 159 No:6 = 156 / 162 As I no longer have a water/oil heat exchanger due to the fitment of an oil cooler I can't think were else the oil can be seeping in from so it's looking like a head off investegation for me :( I suppose the good news is that all being well and it is the gasket I have a nice excuse to replace the chains, guides and the clutch etc. Maybe even an nice shiney ported head will find it's way in there as well :norty:
  19. I forgot to mention caravan and skip lorry drivers (apologies in advance :) )
  20. Middle and outside lane hogs who slam on brakes when you flash them to pull over after waiting patiently for them to do it without the need to flash. People who don't know who to give way to on a roundabout so you have to decide for them. Non wavers - ungrateful swines Last minute motorway junction jumpers. People who indicate, manoeuvre look I had better stop now :)
  21. That was my 2nd port of call but the cap is as clean as a whistle and no mayo to be seen. Well smell wise it's hard to tell although I have convinced myself it has an oily whiff to it. It deffo feels slippery like oil but after grabing a bottle of anti freeze and trying the same test that also is slippery between the fingers. I suppose the only thing I can do bar yanking the head off is to wash out the coolant system as much as I can and run the engine to see if this gunk returns. That and make a note as to where the oil shows on the dip stick from cold. Just seems so odd as the engine starts first time every time and it isn't missing or misfiring which I would expect.
  22. Q1 How are the brake pads held onto the callipers? I normally inspect it and take pictures etc…but they all fell out once the calipers were open so didn’t get a chance to check. Are they suppose to just fall out ? see pic below Ans: The brake caliper holds them in and they should have long spring clips at the top of them Q2 There is a metal circular piece that goes into the caliper piston. Is this to hold the brakes pads in place ? What is it ? see pic with blue arrow Ans: looks like an anti rattle shim to me - stops brakes from squealing (supposed to anyway). Fits inbetween caliper and pad. Q3 The red rod in the picture. Is this an aftermarket piece of item. If it is do you know from which manufacturer ? Ans: It is a tie rod and I suspect it is probably VW standard fitting, just someone has been busy with the red Hammerite. you might want to have a look here http://wiki.the-corrado.net/front_brake ... guide.html
  23. yup I switched it some time ago for a Mocal thermastatic adaptor which goes straight to a 16 row oil cooler, the water pipes are just connected to each other.
  24. Thank fully that is one thing it isn't as I have switched mine to a mocal oil cooler and done away with the exchanger. Shame as that would have been a nice easy fix :D
