You can make one,flat bit of metal thar fits into the ribs then bend over to fit the rid ring ,fit a large nut bolt in the middle then undo the rib ring they are not that tight

If I can’t undo it I will make something up like the tool you describe.

I know your supposed to use the correct tool , but can I get away with putting a cloth over a large flat head screwdriver or blunt chisel?,and tapping it loose ? I’ve tried it by hand but I can’t shift it . I presume it isn’t a left hand thread ?.

I thought this could be my problem, but I’m sure I’ve got a late pump. Oh well I will have to dig it out on Sunday and have a look . I do have problems with turning and losing power though .

Sorry, I was being lazy, just googled it . It is part of the pump itself.

Thanks for the info . I’m familiar with most parts on the car but not the pump. I thought the white pump is what’s in the tank, what part is the swirl pot please?.

I’m not sure Dox . As far as I’m aware , if you ordered your VR , G60 from VW and had the dough for the Nothelle treatment, the lump was built in Germany.

Personally I’d like to own factory Nothelle VR . That must have cost some dough in the 90s .

Rob I called Bosch about that pump it is 3 bar, no good mate leave alone.

I may have missed it , but the one I looked at doesn’t mention any bar, not that that’s any good either.

There’s the Bosch pump on eBay for 63.00. But why are the plastic pipes so long ?. I just have the pump and return hose fitting on to the metal tubes on the pump .

have the same part number if you want to swap just the pump?

Being a 94 I thought you would have had the later style pump ?. I thought they swapped sometime in 93 ?.

Looking at the manual I think the pump is all I need?, as I have the later type sender.

I may have to purchase a new pump soon . Its all a bit confusing . Although my VR is an early model i have a second hand later pump , so the float wont be a problem . So the bosch part on ebay is ok ?.

I’m just going to book her in now keyo . At 50 I neither have the time or motivation any more. I like to do small jobs , but fault finding is getting on my nerves. I have a whole list of the things I’ve checked and checked again , replaced with new parts.

Another question. How do you know when a fuel pump is shot ?. I can’t hear any whining from it . I’m at the stage now where I’m at a loss with idle and what seems like fuel problems. What I don’t want to do is start guessing and buying new expensive parts until I finally solve it .

I’ve just cleaned the car ,thought I’d go out for a little ride . I’m only doing short runs as I know something is about the give . I was just reversing on the drive, no throttle response at all , she stalled three times, I just couldn’t get the revs up , I don’t know if my sketchy idle is related to this ?. When it was driving it , all was fine no loss of power, pulling like a train .

I think I need a new pump as well . My VR is a 92 . I swapped the pump over for a second hand one years ago, so I didn’t have to worry about buying the revised float . I occasionally get loss of power when exiting a roundabout as soon as I’m on the straight it’s fine . This is not due to lack of fuel as it’s done it when I’ve filled up . Once or twice ive had it pulling away in a straight line as well .
