  1. They did do a G60 style BBS wheel for the VR but I'm not sure if they were available as an option over here, or whether they've been retrofitted. You can see them in some US promotional / brochure shots, like:

They're similar in than they're traditional BBS style multispokes, but dish out slightly in in the centre, whereas the G60 ones are flatter.

  2. Hi Ron - I think you may struggle to source a throttle body gasket - was told these are now obsolete by VW.

In terms of the manifold, I had mine media blasted back to bare metal which I think looks great - nice and clean. As yours isn't a daily I'd say you don't necessarily need to consider painting, but a high temperature engine paint such as this would probably be best for some durability: http://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints-body-repair/specialist-decorative-paints/halfords-very-high-temperature-aluminium-paint-300ml

Would need to be heat resistant really because of the amount of heat soak from the engine.

Might also be worth whipping your injectors out and getting them refurbished? Once the upper manifold is off, it's not a huge amount more work to remove the fuel rail to be honest :)

If you decide to replace other nuts and bolts used around the manifold, the covers, etc - all the rest of them seem to be available from VW no problems and not crazy money.

  3. I know it's extremely un-impartial of me as I've been a customer of Stealth now for the better part of 15 years. But they know the VR6 engine inside out, and I think for the sheer amount of work involved in that job, the price is pretty reasonable. I'd hand the keys over to them with full confidence that the work would be done right.

They do love the Corrado there, and have been working on them forever. It speaks volumes that of all the project cars they could build, the last couple have both been Corrado's :)

  4. Provided the car has been well looked after and has a comprehensive, documented history, I wouldn't obsess about finding a low miler. Surely better to pay a little less for one with mileage a little higher than your budget, and have a little bit left in the war chest to fix any niggles or tidy up any blemishes :)

  5. I had something similar with my 2.0 16v about 5 years ago. I bought an additive for the fuel which helps absorb any moisture in the tank (god knows how cause.. where does it go?!) but it did seem to cure itself eventually after a bit of perseverance.

I also wondered if it might be moisture in the lambda probe given it's position on the car (on the underside). The lambda only becomes active after the car is up to a certain temperature which would probably account for it starting and running OK for the first couple of minutes?

Just stick with it - keep trying to run it and I think it will eventually clear.

  6. I've posted about this company before countless times, but to my knowledge no-one has yet actually given them a try. They're specialists in re-doing the metallic coating on headlight reflectors. Their page, specifically on this process is here:

I really don't know what sort of prices they charge but I think they have a good reputation, and thought it might be of interest just in case you don't manage to pick up a second hand one.

    Cheers.

  7. It's all a bit grey to me too. Chaps in motorsport recommend matching the wheel width to tyre width, so 8J should have a 205 fitted. Sounds logical and sensible, but put a 205 onto a typical 8J rim and it's slightly stretched. And what is 205 on the VR6's 6.5J all about??!

My Edition 30 runs 7.5Jx18, but with 225 tyres. Odd.

Which is why I put the 195's on my Speedlines.. I know it all comes down to personal preference and that of course it was done for a reason by VW.. but when I put my car side by side with t a VR shod in 205's, the 195's look far nicer now and the 205's look positively balloon like!

  8. I won't post up any spoilers or anything but it was fantastic fun. Packed with action, looked amazing, had a pretty good story & script with some good comic relief along the way, and was way more in keeping with the original Star Wars movies than Episodes I/II/III by a country mile.

I can't imagine many fans of the originals would be disappointed with it at all. Well well worth a watch.

  9. I think it depends on the car. If it's a really good example (MOT issues aside), a low miler, or has some desirable options I reckon it'd be worth hanging onto. If the car is a bit tired and needs some major work in a number of places, I'd probably consider letting it go.

Prices are firming up no doubt, but the less decent stuff still seems to be commanding low prices with only the really good cars fetching strong money.

But either way it's not a great time of year to sell so I'd definitely consider the storage option for a few months at least, then re-evaluate.
