  1. Yeah and then the timing, and the time to do all this, I've already spent hours and hours putting the engine in. I may change my mind, but at the moment I'm convinced in trying to sell it on for parts!
  2. I haven't yet, no.. The belt was old, I'm not sure when it was changed... I don't know how to check for damage and to be honest, I can't keep spending money on this car :( I also tried to start it again once it had died, so surely that in itself will bend thing... I could try to take the head off, and then I would need to change the headgasket new water pump, pulley and belt (which I've never done before).. I think its just time to call it a day (sad as it sounds)
  3. Game over :( After months of learning about engines and doing an ABF conversion on my raddo (after the engine lost its oil) it decided to snap a cambelt on me last night... With the wedding coming up, I just can't keep spending money on her, so its time I threw the towel in.. I'm gonna try to sell her as a whole, but failing that I'll break her... After the wedding, I'm thinking of getting an A3/S3. We have an A3 already, and its a lovely car!! Sad times :( R.I.P
  4. And I thought I had bad luck!! You have such bad luck Alex.... Good luck with it mate, all I can say is sorry you live so far away, I would be up to help in a heartbeat! The force is strong with this one :)
  5. ah right! I also keep up half a tank anyway as I think the fuel sender might be on its way out (or the clocks were faulty). I ran out of petrol while still showing a quarter left!! I don't spose there is a way to line it all up is there?
  6. Ooooh right! I'm pretty sure my old speedo shows 12Gal and the new one 15gal! and my raddo is well old (1990) So I assume I have 12 gallons! I would change the gauge over but I have new red needles on the new clocks and I've seen that you "CAN" change the needles, but from what i've read, i'll no doubt end up snapping them :) Incidentially my new clocks actually line up with my car in regards to the rev counter.. I can rev to 7k, and my old clocks went up to 8 and only above 7k was red line, the new clocks only go up to 7k so thats more accurate :) (ABF engine) I'm happy to have a car showing always a lil under when I fill up, its not a problem...
  7. I'm just about to swap my old clocks out for some newer ones... The old clocks show the Gallons up to 12, but the new ones 15!!! WTF! :)
  8. Hey Jim, that would be a great idea!! :) You might be right about the rack / brakes. I just wanna see what you "can" do using orig parts! I'll pm you :)
  9. Thanks for the link fendervg! It was just something I was thinking about doing, but it looks like quite a ball ache. It could be that my steering and brakes are not working properly if you all think its good.. Or maybe I'm used to driving newer cars...
  10. Hmmm So my original question is what would you need to change :) Discs surely would just alter how well it stops when you stamp on it.. It has new pads, and a new flush... So if I change the master cylinder to something newer and maybe the angle of the pedal it would be better.. What about taking the brake servo and pedal from a MK4 Golf? Would that then be it?
  11. So I have a few thoughts, and wondered if anyone things this would work.. and if I'm thinking right... Brakes: So my brakes are good, the car stops well when you hit the brakes.. However, you have to STAMP on them... Is my problem the master cylinder? Can anything be tweaked. Obviously its an old car, but I would LOVE it if I could get light braking (like a newer VW). Steering Power steering is also slightly heavy... Anything I can do to upgrade this (had a flush of fluid). So I'm not sure if "newer" parts of the same thing would help, or whether its just that it was never that good, does anything bolt on from a newer car?
  12. Just tested it, and its right too!! haha! V8 = a Aston Martin Vantage (2 Door Saloon)
  13. PM and Email is the only way... If he is not answering, he's not gonna sell his car very well!!!! Good Luck!
  14. I don't mate, but thats enough.. I'll find where to buy windscreen sealer / adheasive! :) Thanks! It looks like it was smashed and repaired once (glass on the bottom of the door) and they haven't stuck it done, it just sits on the runner!!!!
  15. for the record, the ones of a MK3 golf are the same - for anyone that is ever looking :)
  16. Its nice to have the old site back :) Too many answers on google that point to /archive! :)
  17. It could be you know... I should just follow the cable and see where it leads, but the poor raddo is always having things pulled off it and was hoping someone could just lemme know :)
  18. It has a blue plug on it, and seems to come from the back of the car.. everything is "working"
  19. I have tracked this down to how the window sits on the runner... On one side it has some kind of black gunk that is sticking the window to the frame so it can pull it down.. I managed to temporarily use duct tape and it pulled the window down, but it didn't last for long, and isn't a good fix. What is that gunk, and what can I use : ) Thanks

    Sill rust...

I bought a raddo with the driver side sill rotten... here are the pics: I have patched it up and will get the sill done at some point soon. People always say, oh no stay away... However if the car is £500 cheaper than another one and only the sills need doing, and the sills cost £300 to do, its £200 cheaper :) So depends really... Mine was £500, lots of problems, but when its mint, it wont of cost 3k and will be worth about that (I hope)
  22. Hey Jhey... errm at the risk of sounding like a dick.. it was the first link that google brought up gave a direct howto on how to remove it!! Its only a few bolts.. http://letmegooglethatforyou.com/?q=corrado+remove+slam+panel
