1. Any major scuffs or anything on this? Any issues at all. And does the iPod interface work with the iphone5?
2. The correct readings for a VR6 are: 160psi is factory standard with an upper limit of 189psi and a wear limit of 109psi. A 44psi max difference across the range. Hope that helps.
3. Is this still going and whays the crack with payment? Last time I looked I was in the last batches so had to wait?

VR6 Airbox

I'm after a good condition VR6 airbox please. Thanks.
6. Next update, brakes. The VR brakes are, well, good; but the feel is horrific. They do not provide confidence at all. I tried changing the fluid for some decent Millers DOT4, got all the old fluid and air out. Still rubbish. And bleeding the VR6 brakes is almost an impossible feat with the rubbish ABS system. So I upgraded the fronts to Golf MK4 288mm brakes, brembo discs and genuine pads, with Goodridge stainless conversion hoses up front and over the rear axle , I also went as anal as changing every pipe up to the rear compensator. And honestly, after a full days work, was it worth it? No, not in the slightest. I didn't actually touch anything past the rear axle as I was waiting to find some MK4 rears, which probably didn't help matters. Still though, the brakes worked better, but that firm, confident inspiring pedal feel I was expecting just wasn't there. But we'll get onto that later :thumbleft:
7. Right.. It's been such a while since I've updated, 18 months almost! A lot has happened on the car.. So expect some healthy updates in the next few days.. First update. I was getting fed up of the engine tapping sound so I first off replaced the original metal rocker cover with a later plastic type and new genuine gasket, that reduced the noise dramatically; I can only presume that the metal cover resonated the sound more than the plastic? I also went ahead and ordered one of these: http://www.awesomegti.com/brand/42-draft-designs/42-draft-stealth-oil-catch-can-golf-mk2-mk3-mk4 A draft 42 Stealth Oil Catch Tank finished in wrinkle black. It's an enclosed, but drain-able type of catch tank and the only one which has the correct sized inlets/outlets for VW's, it has about three gauze filters inside and the quality is unparalleled. My PCV valve was split; I've been told that this can contribute to burning oil and tapping sounds, plus I hate the thought of crappy old oil vapour being re-used and burnt with ignition anyway. The only issue was where to mount it. As you VR boys will know, the engine bay is pretty tight as it is, and I wanted to keep the catch tank accessible so the only option of gfitting was this area: So, I decided to utilise a spare bracket (the one which holds the engine loom connection block and aux water pump) and also some spare brackets which hold the fuel lines to the rocker cover. A few welding lessons off my friend later; my first ever masterpiece: A lick of VHT wrinkle black paint to match the catch tank: A bit of pipework and voilà: The noise was reduced even further, I vented to atmosphere underneath the car utilising a small N&N filter on the end of the outlet pipe, which is a bit stinky; but that's what old VR's are all about, right?

Dipstick?

My late 1993 didn't have a orange guide, nor did a 1997 OBD2 engine I broke.
9. Has anyone modified a VR6 airbox before with good results? If so how and what did you do?
10. I think it was me... :) Any uniqueness on the car you saw? I'm curious who's it was. Never had a spotted; I was in that direction this morning between 8.00 - 8.30.

12. Yeah, I was thinking November. So realistically in the next few weeks won't hurt? I need to get my Summer wheels off ASAP and one has a hairline crack. As for good makes, Vredestein allegedly invented the winter tyre. Continentals have good reviews too! I'm looking at some Conti Winter Contacts TS 800 which are £58 each. Not bad.
13. Well, the only place I found who sold them is Camskill, but they are out of stock now; indefinitely. They only stocked one brand too so I'm guessing they aren't too common. At a guess the smaller profile would adversely affect winter tyres due to the sidewalls being less forgiving and stiffer. Plus i'd have to run that little bit lower meaning the car could beach out on the snow. 195/50 it is then. On another note what time of year do people start fitting their winter tyres? Is it too early?
14. Just to rebirth an old thread. I'm looking at getting some Vredestein Snow trac 3's for the original VR Speedlines and for some reason the 195/45/15 profile is cheaper than 195/50. Any reason for this?
15. I've used the search but I can't find anything, strange. I've just had the original VR Speedlines refurbished and I'm looking at getting new tyres for this winter. I know the original size is 205/50/15 and that some people recommend 195/50/15 as they can be cheaper. But what about 195/45/15? I'm worried they'll look too small, but on the other hand I've never been a fan of big ballon 205/50's either. Has anyone fitted smaller profile tyres to the standard Speedlines and have any pictures? Thanks!
16. Hey guys, I'm back. Tigerfish has been contacted and refunded and I've been in contact with Jim. I've been doing temporary work which involves a lot of travelling and staying in crappy hotels so I can only access the site on my mobile - and since the top menu is all over the place on my iPhone I can't navigate the site, I have to access pages via Google searches so I just haven't been on here for ages. E38 is a different matter though! Apologies for the misunderstanding, I'm not a scammer or anything, just stupid! :bonk:

Water pipe valve??

Oh right. Bizarre that I've never noticed it before. At least it's normal. Thanks
18. I'm just doing some work to my VR6 and I've just noticed a valve inside the thin water pipe which goes to the throttle body. I've never noticed it before. Is this normal and what is it for?
19. Has anyone got a good conditioned or even an unused stainless exhausts manifold for a Vr6? Mines just split when I've raised the engine doing some work, yay!!

Heater Control

MK3 Golf ones won't work. It's a reversed mechanism.
21. Any idea what battery jacket will fit a 096 sized battery?

PCV breather valve

No, it's a blank. The wiring is there because European models use a heater or some crap around there. It's something us UK boys don't have.

PCV breather valve

I went the catch can route. I've never been a fan of sending crappy oil fumes down the inlet anyway.
