1. Good man! Would this have the coil attached to it too or is it just bracket and module only? Cheers David
2. VW Stock these. I'd sit down though before you ask for a new ISV - They're ridiculous money (£400 - £500 last time I checked!) Impulse sender is about 35 quid.
3. This is how I normally do it see below: http://autorepair.about.com/od/troubleshooting/ss/coiltest-manual.htm or you can use a spark tester (the AA use them all the time). I wouldn't mind getting one of these myself! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-38898-In-Line-Ignition-Tester/dp/B0001K9U5U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1348654479&sr=8-2
4. According to the VAGCAT Parts Catalogue part number for a 9A Coil is 535905115. See circled below for schematic: I crossed referenced this against a parts database and found this. See link below: http://www.partsbase.net/part/vw-535905115 This is very similar to mine. I have a pretty serious problem though - VW don't stock these anymore and I still can't find an OE Ignition Coil replacement for a C 92 16V 2L (9A) anywhere! These have to exist surely?? Failing that what is everybody else running? (9A owners please) Cheers,
5. When somebody wants to put their life at stake for 20 bills let em... If you've got any sense though fella you'd do best to steer clear of cheap sh*te - There are far too many people selling cheap and unsafe uprated looms that can't even be bothered to buy heavy duty crimping tools, let alone know how to solder properly, or how to encase electrical components to IP65 / IP68 etc
6. That's your impulse sender connector dude which to be honest needs some attention too by the looks of it. It's obviously old and brittle hence why it has perished like that. See below for more details about this: http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?76195-Fitting-Knock-Sensor-to-HT-Leads Your ISV is the palm sized cylindrical device that has 2 x vac pipes and 1 x connector coming out of it (it's in the background of your pics!). See circled in previous post. Does your car idle steadily between 800 - 1000 RPM?
7. I must admit, I have seen the square type coils before that suppliers SAY will fit a 9A but everyone I've spoken to who has tried them have all said they don't work or rather you can't turn the engine over after install! All have reverted back to the cylindrical type which work fine. Problem is - VW no longer stock coil packs for the 9A so I'm pretty much b*ggered at the moment. Recently tried fitting a KR coil (cylindrical same year etc) to see whether this works but after 15 miles the engine died on me. I suspect it was down to the new KR coil (cylindrical type) because the old coil (cylindrical type) that was on the car originally, albeit old and misfired from time to time, actually worked. I've never had the car die on me like that. Popped into VW yesterday and they were convinced the 9A ignition module mounts on the ECU NOT the coil (cyclindrical type) - I badly need somebody to confirm what type of coil and arrangement you are running on your stock 9A for me to use as a reference base, I don't want to waste any more cash buying the wrong OEM coils and modules. At the moment I'm stuck Appreciate your help guys,
8. I use brake cleaner or Isopropyl alcohol (spray type) on all my connectors - Great for removing oil and all kinds of cr*p and because it's virtually pure alcohol it evaporates in a few seconds. Sounds like you should def give your injectors some attention after 168,000 miles! Jim - out of interest how long does it take to replace all injectors etc, whilst taking the correct precautions of course?
9. Thanks for the pic appreciate it Was this off a 9A and does this have the ignition module attached? Pretty sure coil packs for the 9A are cylindrical that's all, or according to 9A schematics they are! Either way I see what you're saying about it bolting directly into the bulkhead Any pics of the cylindrical pack + module mounted to it?
10. Mine's running a little too lean for my liking these days and the bay stinks of fuel after a long drive. Will def need to look at injectors / fueling etc over the next few weeks. So far: New ISV fitted. New plugs and leads fitted. New coil fitted. New distributor fitted. New metering head fitted a year or so ago - Still hasn't sorted it. Jim - I'm hoping to replace my injectors soon as I'm up to 96,000 Miles. So basically, if you check the injectors be prepared to have a replacement set on stand by, new seals the lot? Diagrams also go a loooong way guys ;)
11. It'll go alot better I reckon :thumbleft:
12. Fixed bridge on a BC RICH Mockingbird ST is f*cking awesome. Helps if you have two of em though if you're dropping your tuning all the time!
13. Love em. More of a Gibson, Gretsch (Duo sonic), ESP man myself though
14. ISV: Idle Stabilizing Valve Location: Circled below If this is faulty it could well be knocking your speedo out at fuse level. Something else for you to consider that's all
15. Sorry mate if I knew I'd tell you, I asked the engineer but he couldn't remember at the time it might however be on the engineers report I'll check for you. A chap in the garage sorted mine - I was scratching my head trying to work out what was wrong with my speedo for days (other clocks fine). I fitted a new ISV as it was idling badly as well and replaced all the fuses myself etc before I was forced to hand it over to electrical specialists as I suspected one of the looms was faulty - turned out that the new ISV I had fitted was faulty from new so was blowing the fuse which in turn kept knocking the speedo out. It was only when I finally had enough of driving around with a duff ISV (bad idle) and no speedo when I said enough was enough. I put it in the garage and they fitted another ISV unit which DIDN'T blow the fuse and HEY PRESTO - My speedo came back to life.
16. Clean and tidy - I like it. Always nice to see some attention put into the bay too. I'm slowly sorting mine out, replacing what I can with new OEM parts etc, new bolts / clips etc, focusing on cable management that sorta stuff. What wheel sizes and tyres are you running?
17. Thanks Sean, It looks a little suspect doesn't it?? It wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't meant to be on my 9A - I'm pretty much rebuilding the whole engine bay to rectify previous owners mistakes! If you reckon the bracket pictured with module attached is the wrong one any idea which is the right one? Found this as a guide: http://www.ignitioncarparts.co.uk/PartDetails.aspx?s_pc=PM00700&s_vid=1754 How do these fix to the car without the use of a bracket? I presume it piggy backs on top of the coil and the two side mounting bolt holes on the module mate with the two bolt holes on the coil bracket Very little info on VAGCAT - no schematics at all for this so annoying ---------- Post added at 8:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 8:34 AM ---------- Anyone got any pics of ignition coil mounted to module and car etc? Cheers
18. In case you haven't done this already - Check all fuses! The speedo went on mine, it went at the same time my ISV started playing up. I eventually took it to an electrical specialists who replaced the ISV, replaced fuse - Clocks came back to life. It seems the ISV and clocks share the same fuse on the 16V (or it does on my 9A anyway)
19. Got spares, part numbers - Anybody?
20. Anyone have one of these for sale (see pics below) or know what the part number is for a C 92 16V 2.0 (9A)? Looks like the ignition module to me but is fixed to a bracket that mounts the coil and module to framework. Checked on VAGCAT and I can't find the module (or bracket) anywhere. Seen plenty of 3 pin modules available but they don't come pre-fixed to the correct bracket and bolt on completely differently to the car. Beggining to scratch my head a little with this one! Any help would be wicked. Cheers, Ten Ton
21. Did you over rev your engine by any chance? Check 2 x thin breather pipes are attached on the underside of the air tunnel (throttle body end). If one of these has fallen off or come away from the small red dual thermostat inside the air tunnel (see no.39 on 94 16V 2.0 schematics attached) your engine won't turn over for sh*t.
22. About time... that's awesome. I made my peace with the idea along time ago that when I get mine I would have to convert it to RHD. No need for all that nonsense now - brilliant news!
23. Major thread revival here! Bcstudent, if you're still online - Did you ever find the fault? My 9A is doing something similar, any advice would be awesome
24. Easy when you know how, thanks! :thumbleft:
