  1. Possibly, but it will take time to investigate so I came up with an alternative solution. I've sourced a lower mileage engine 130k and plan to fit this instead. I figured in the time I take messing round with the current engine I could fit another that is known to run okay. I'm going to swap my clutch, flywheel, chains tensioners and ancillaries over to the replacement before fitting. I've removed the front end in preparation and plan to pick up the replacement this week with a view to fitting it over the weekend. I'm trying to get it running as soon as possible as the car is being worked on in my driveway which is under a large oak tree. I'm having to wash the car every other day to keep the tree sap off!
  2. Well done on 200k, rattles used to drive me crazy too
  3. Maybe you blew a fuse, wiring to the recaros is quite simple so can't really go wrong. The switches play up occasionally which you can sort by removing them and spraying with switch cleaner
  4. I removed the head and couldn't find any signs of head gasket failure, the gasket looked intact. Overall the head was full of oily Mayo. Cylinder 4 was full of water. I feel like I could waste time investigating without resolving the problem. I'm not sure that a head gasket will fix it. I don't think it's the oil cooler as if it was then there would be oil in the coolant system rather than the other way round. I've had an oil cooler fail in a 330d so have experienced this first hand. Oil pressure is higher than water pressure so oil ends up in the coolant system when an oil cooler fails
  5. It's definitely not gone through the plug hole, I'm removing the head to investigate
  6. I have removed the upper and lower inlet manifolds to get access. I removed the spark plugs, then turned the engine over by hand a few times. When i did this water spurted out of the plug hole for cylinder 4. Any Ideas on what this indicates?
  7. actually i redid it with the throttle open which i forgot to do first time around and now i get. I pulled the fuel pump relay 1 180 psi 2 165 psi 3 170 psi 4 175 psi 5 170 psi 6 170 psi
  8. Hi Just a quick update, i did a compression test dry with the engine cold and got the following results. I dont who whats considered normal when col but why is cylinder 4 so high? I can understand when a reading can be lower due to worn rings/bores 1 180 psi 2 170 psi 3 170 psi 4 235 psi 5 170 psi 6 170 psi
  9. excellent improvisation, i will most definately try that out
  10. Hasan that would be great, i'm most likely to work on it Bank Holiday Monday :)
  11. I hadn't though about doing a compression test, I'll do one in the next few days as that would help me conclude the issue. If it does come to doing the headgasket, what's the best options for the gasket and bolts? If ECP is suitable that would be great as i can pick them up locally
  12. I don't mind getting the head off but thought i'd look at other options first. I had an oil cooler failure on my previous 330d but the oil entered the cooling system rather than the other way round. I assume this is because oil pressure is a higher than coolant pressure. If this is the case with the vr6 then its unlikely to be the oil cooler. But regardless its worth a look. Are there any other likely suspects? ...I can't think of anything
  13. nice work, nothing like an engine refresh
  14. thread here http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=90589&p=1067505#post1067505 if anyone can help that would be great, with the upcoming bank holidays i should be able to work on it
  15. My car has been stood for some time and now has a couple of problems i need advice on. The car starts okay but is a bit lumpy, i've put this down to it needing a bit of a run to clear it out. My main problem is the coolant has pressurised and mixed in with the oil. The oil looks like the following video Before looking at the oil the heater matrix has given way (which was also changed by myself a few years ago) and the coolant came out the expansion tank too. Before i took the car off the road i had changed the headgasket and it was running fine. The symptoms look much like a head gasket failure but could it be anything else?
  16. Hi guys i had a think and i will try and get it running over the next few weeks with the aim of getting it mot'd ready for sale. Now i need help with the coolant pressurising issue so i'll post a thread on the technical section thanks
  17. I used to use it for commuting 120 miles a day, for which it's not the ideal car. It got peppered with stone chips so I had the front end re sprayed and bought another car for commuting. since then got married and bought a house which needed renovation so just didn't have the time for the car. In hindsight I should have just sold it when it came out the bodyshop as it drove perfectly and the bodywork was as good as it had been
  18. Hasan, nice work with the obd2 upgrade. The drive must be a lot nicer now. Do you get much mileage on the car nowadays?
  19. Im not sure if this is against forum rules if it is let me know and i will amend my post. As it is i would want £2500, how much would it be worth fixed? Bear in mind that it has 208k miles and about 6 previous owners but i have owned it for the last 8 years. Also i'm not sure what would be needed to get it running as i changed the headgasket not long ago so not sure what else would cause the coolant to pressurise and mix with the oil. If i could get a replaccement engine for reasonable money i'd be happy to swap that out in a weekend but i think the chances of finding one are slim
  20. the cars is well driven with mileage at 208k so I'm not sure if selling it running would command much money
  21. Advise needed on this thread, thanks http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=90560
  22. Hi Guys I used to frequent this forum a lot a few years ago, here's a thread to my car. http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=32999&highlight=rs199 Unfortunately I have not been driving it much for the last few years and its been parked up. I recently tried to get it ready for an MOT so I could sell it but the coolant pressurised and the heater matrix gave way. I bypassed the matrix as a temporary fix and this time the coolant came out the expansion tank. Upon further investigation the coolant has also mixed with the oil. I did change the head gasket when I was last driving it so I'm not sure what it could be. With the car the way it is I'm looking at the best options for moving the car on. I'm sure many corrado owners have faced a similar scenario. Below are my options in order of preference 1. Sell the car as it is (my preferred option if i can get the right money) 2. Break the car (reluctantly) 3. Fix Car and sell it running My decision would be based on how much money I could make. The car has a decent spec and there is no doubt breaking it would give me a decent return but at the same time it has excellent body work with only 2 bits of recent rust that have appeared while it was parked up, a small amount on the leading edge of the OSF wing and a small bit on the bottom of the OSR arch where it meets the underbody. Apart from that a good detail would have it looking like it was in its prime. Given this it could be useful for someone looking to do an engine swap and it saves a decent corrado in a nice colour being broken. Key points about the car are as follows 1. Clean straight presentable body in good condition (2 small bits of rust as mentioned above) 2. BBS rs wheels and tyres 17x8.5 and 17x8 with dunlop sp 900's on the rear and hankooks on the front tyres (need a bit of a repolish a they have been on the car outside) 3. Magnex exhaust 4. vibratechnics engine mount 5. schimmel 263 cams and remapped stealth ecu 6. electric recaro interior 7. schimmel leads 8. KW coilovers 9. 288mmm brakes with redrilled hubs that take 5x112 and 5x100 wheels 10. recent new windscreen 11. well maintained so all bushes ball joints, chains etc were replaced by myself during my ownership So what does everyone think, would there be interest in my car as it is that saves me breaking it? If so how much could i sell for? Here pictures of the car as it stands
  23. zak

    how to remove fpr?

    as said pull hard!
  24. so i quickly swapped out the alternator and that fixed the problem i was having of no charge so i guess my old 120amp alternator has failed. This was the good news..... upon warm up coolant poured into the passenger footwell. I'm assuming the matrix has failed, surprising since i replaced it not long before it was taken off the road. This reminds me of the love hate relationship i have with the car. I think im going to bypass the matrix to get the car mot'd and swap it in the next month.
