  1. blackberry vr earlier this afternoon on putney bridge
  2. Most abv's i've come across seem to suffer from piston slap when cold. On my old block it used to make the car sound crap until warmed up
  3. I voted now, i quite like the yellowy glow from the oem sidelights
  4. Kev superb post i will have to look in to this when i next have my car in bits. How do you know how much to adjust by, is it quite obvious when you're doing it?
  5. Its definately a misfire you just have to identify what's responsible for it. Prime culprit from experiance is the coilpack so try that first and report back
  6. I would avoid the GSF ones as i heard they can go soft wehn torqueing up. Ive personally used a few sets of the ECP febi ones and have had no problems. If you are likely to have your head of again in the future ARP is the way to go as they are reusable and will save you money in the long run.
  7. definately doesn't sound normal but not sure what the issue is. you must be able to marrow it down as its pretty loud

Dave what size tyres are you planning to run and how low will you run the car?
  9. when it dies does the engine still turn over and does it does it sound any different ie does it spin over faster?
  10. just wondering if you had any more luck with a late upper cowling? I've manage to source a complete early fixed set up and will be doing my swap on the weekend :)
  11. It all depends on the condition of the car, mines coming up to 200k and the car is very good both body wise and mechanically due to the meticulous maintence. i drive mine every day so its paramount thats its reliable so all maintenece is done in a timeley manner using genuine parts. If i were to sell it i would not have an issue selling it to someone as a clean example with plenty of life left in it. A point to note is that i have not just done the bog standard servicing, I've mechanically overhauled the suspension + bushes, drivetrain and brakes through out my ownership. The engine has been replaced with a lower mileage bottom end and i have re done the head along with the standard chain and clutch replacement amongst a lot of other work along the way. Body wise i have no rust which i think is due to washing the car regularly and keeping the salt off in winter. I dont think mileage is such a factor with older cars its definately condition and thats what you need to evaluate when buying the car.
  12. have you vag com'd it?
  13. The hissing noise is probably the isv damper mentioned above. Its noisy and sounds like a vacuum leak but thas just how it is. I dont think there will be a leak. Have you got a problem that you're trying to resolve?
  14. I'm after the bits too as i want to convert mine, the parts you need are as follows. Fusebox - Engine Harness Engine wiring Loom ECU Keys Transponder Inlet Manifold Throttlebody Maf Imo parts should cost less than £200 as theres a lot of mk3's being broken.
  15. you can also use a chisel to take out the shear bolts or an angle grinder to grind the head down leaving the stub which comes out with a pair of pliers.
  16. i use the one from your ebay link and have had no problems and its no longer in the way
  17. The car is definately driven daily, mainly town driving in London and motorway miles... just ticked over 199k today :) Car is looking fresh in that pic as it had been polished earlier in the morning after being off the road for the last week having a mechanical refresh 8)
