Recommended Posts

hi - its been months now since my c was drivable:(

she starts fine - moastly runs fine - temps are good -just after 4miles exaust manifold glows red - and sometimes a complete loss of power until she is turned of and restarted ... could it be crap in the tank?

who takes tanks of - normal garages?

its geting hard:(

timing was put right - had the fuel mix fixed and it didnt hapen for 3 whole days and then came back - seems not to hapen when the car has been siting for a few days or when the tank is more than half full- this is why i ask about having the tank emptied - could a new fuel filter help?

Yeah, the lambda could be causing it as well, but it doesn't explain why it only happens when you've got a very full tank.

Does your fuel pump whine? If that's on it's last legs, then it could be causing problems.

cant hear anything? just a sought of weerd wooshy sound from the back end nwhen i turn the ignition on just for 1 second or so - just thought it could be picking up the crap of the botom of the tank - she did run verry low on fuela couple of times and thats about when the problem started-also when i drilled my airbox. i have to pick her up from 20 miles away in a minuit for a slow drive home:( bit woried that it could be dangerous :( do exaust manifolds normaly glow abit?

ps it only hapens when she has a tank less than a quater full

first of all i would drain the tank, is it possible that someone has put diesel in by mistake?

someone once took a p1ss in my brothers fuel tank which caused it to cut out when the tank ran low  didnt notice a glowing exhaust manifold though

if the manifold has got hot enough to glow several times there could be further damage i would have thought

have the valves been checked could be sticky exhaust valves letting the freshly combusted fuel into the exhaust manifold, does the manifold glow evenly or just next to a certain cylinder?

the only thing i can think of its to get anouther c and break this one :( but that would be harsh because she is in great nick apart from this problem - she flys dosent get hot but know garrage out of the 9 i have taken her to can fix the problem - im in complete dissmay and havent had a car to run for ages - :(

if it was caused by bad fuel, fuel pump, lambda probe ect it should cause the manifold to glow evenly if it is only making part of the manifold glow it would suggest a more localised problem

has the compression been checked?

i wouldnt risk it but if you have to just take it very slowly keep the revs down. and if you have to sit in traffic for a long time flick the engine off

oh and buy a fire extinguisher

My car was like this when I picked it up. I immediately changed the oil/oil filter and found loads of crap in the sump. I then got the metering head cleaned out and the fuel filter changed and all was well.

Check all these things first before doing anything rash.

If those things don't sort it, take it to a real specialist like Stealth or AmD. It's worth travelling. At least phone them up and have a chat about the prob. My old VR wasn't running right and I took it to 3 garages, spent loads and it still wasn't fixed. Took it to AmD and they sorted it in less than an hour and gave the car a good check over to boot.

As you live in West Sussex why don't you take it to G-Werks or JMR, both are Corrado experts? I think G-Werks tend to specialise in G-Lader cars but it would be worth giving them both a call? You're spoilt for choice in West Sussex!

ok - does anyone have any phone numbers for them coz it looks like thats the only option - she drove back apsolutly fine and couldnt se the manifold glowing when i got back - did 35 miles or so in the end:( but i think it has to be dark to se the manifold glow- water sat at 89ish and oil was 94 on average.... it did loose power 3 times untill she was turned off and on again - those numbers would be great though coz im out of options:(

Could possibly be the cat is blocked what can happen is that ball like shape of honey cone sits at the bottom of the cat and when you drive the vehicle and increase the rpm the ball get blow to the end of the cat partcally blocks it causeing lots of exhaust gasses to get stuck in the mainifold thus making the mainfold glow. As the engine pumps more and more gases into the confines area, in the end the engine will stall due to the engine get choked. Just a thought come accross this quite a lot over the years i've worked on cars.
