Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 27, 2005 And I quote:- So basically Milltek and Magnex are good if fitted properly. Supersprint and Genuine will both rust and fall off and both weigh a ton and cost too much - and have stopped making them or have been lying in the back of Mr VW's shed for the last 8 years... And thats about it! Cheers Neil, that's all we need to know about exhausts, worthy of a temporary sticky

biggerbigneil 0 Posted May 31, 2005 I was quite cross eyed after a few lunch time bevy's on the sunny friday when I wrote that  However it is pretty much true: - Milltek and Magnex are good if fitted properly VW and Supersprint are supposed to be the best for fitting and low volume but they are heavy and they will rust and for the VW ones they would have been lying around for a while now. Supersprint are apparently going to stop making the Corrado systems. So you buy one... something eventually rusts, then you can't replace the part... So buy Milltek or Magnex - whats the problem? The people at Colbournes VW that had/have Corrado's used Milltek for the same reasons. They said Powerflow were poorly made and anyone with a Powerflow licence could fit them. Although there probably are a few specialists that will do a good job and they are the most custom for off the shelf. My Jetex system was good on my MK3 after a specialist took the whole thing off and re-welded half of it. Janspeed - I don't even need to bother EDIT - I rekon this is pretty spot on actually, and it was Stickied! So... if there are any negative comments on this post I will put them down to jealousy! Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 31, 2005 Ah, sorry mate, I forgot to unsticky our bit of Friday fun!
biggerbigneil 0 Posted May 31, 2005 Oh well the fame was going to my head It was fun while it lasted! I was getting a bit fed up of the paparazi hiding outside my flat.... It seems the original exhaust post has returned to the way in which it was meant to be also and I will go back to my non-celeb way of life
Campaign 0 Posted May 31, 2005 No offence Neil, but as I was trying to point out, this was YOUR point of view only, and was a bit annoyed at it being "stickied" over and above the "proper" consensus view. FWIW imho the SuperSprint is a very difficult fit, BUT when done properly is a very good exhaust system. They have improved in quality control since I had mine fitted nearly 10 years ago. If the VW ones rust quickly, explain my one that was fitted 13 years ago and is still providing sterling service now? I can't comment on either Magnex or Milltek as I have no experience of either. [/coat!]
biggerbigneil 0 Posted May 31, 2005 Campaign - No probs, no offense taken, it was really a bit of fun on Friday with a little bit of knowledge thrown in but not that much... True what is said about the VW ones, mine lasted 11 years! It certainly came off rusted to pieces also and I purchased a Milltek because of the price - £300 fitted, reputation, weight, specialist fitting. I didn't buy it to try and increase power, I bought it because in theory I should never have to touch it again. Same reason I have fitted copper brake pipes, mk4 calipers and I want everything blasted and powder coated under my car so it should last a long time. -Neil- 0 Posted January 5, 2006 where can you have a milltek FITTED for £300, i've seen a cat-back system for £300 on the net, but not fitted? After 12 years my VW system is slowly rusting off, hangers have come off now and being held on by wire. I Think after all my research using the SEARCH feature i'm going with a milltek. can anyone point me in the right direction?
_Monkey 0 Posted January 5, 2006 My Jetex system was good on my MK3 after a specialist took the whole thing off and re-welded half of it. You must have had a bad one mate, my Jetex is spot on and i've never had a problem with it.
ben16v 0 Posted January 5, 2006 and my janspeed has been on 50K and is still fine!!!
Lippy 0 Posted January 5, 2006 -Neil-, give awesome gti a ring they fitted mine for £300 quid and they are having a Xmas sale (although this may be over) which means they will knock 10% off and not charge for fitting. There near Manchester, although the wrong side from Sheffield. Its not a million miles away tho... failing that get someone local to price match them! I've got no probs with mine, all I wanted was fit and forget doing the job 4 me!
-Neil- 0 Posted January 5, 2006 cheers Lippy, Ive been on the internet and it is actually awsome GTi who have the system cat back for £265, so if i can ge it fitted for £35 somewhere locally i'd be happy. Hoping to get one in two weeks when i save my money, very stretched this month!
biggerbigneil 0 Posted January 5, 2006 Give John @ JMR a call, he is 16VG60 on the forum and will fit and supply the system for around £300 No offense but for the money these systems cost I would never buy a Janspeed or Jetex - I've had a Jetex on a mk3, Biggerbighugo had a janspeed on a mk2. Nasty things lol
ben16v 0 Posted January 5, 2006 biggerbigneil, none taken, it was my dad who put it on years ago (janspeed S1-stainless) as it was the only one demon tweeks could get, any its still ok, if it aint broke.... saying that i did have a janspeed mild steel on my XR2 8) and i realised why it was loud when i noticed all the holes
Rustynuts 0 Posted January 5, 2006 No one has mentioned Scorpion, honestly really good, very very good, can't fault it really and thats why its for sale in the 'for sale' section for 50 quid. lol
