Rob's R32 Corrado - FOR SALE :(

I am not too concerned mate. I am treating it all like an enormous service. while the engine is out i have done, chains, thermostat, water pump, senders, all stuff that fails, and all stuff that is a pig to get at when the engine is in the car.

 

i will get there.

well i have done all my chains, there was definate stretch evident, so I have basically eliminated all possible problems with timing.

 

That seems to corroborate with stories I've heard about R32 chains going twang.

 

How many miles has this lump done?

58k mate.

 

when you held the chains up together old against new, you could see the links running off, and god know what it was doing under load, probablies much worse.

Does the 2.8l 24V engine have this same 'characteristic' ??

Mr John - No mate, you'll no doubt be glad to hear :D

 

I have stripped my 130k 2.8 24V motor down and other than the usual guide rail snappages (the plastic goes brittle with age) all looks in great shape :salute:

hey Kev, glad you approve pal. it is pretty pornographic isn't it! i'll get a similar shot (ust without the chains exposed) of my actual car before long hopefully - going to get the injectors out and get them cleaned up before it has a remap...

No news yet I'm afraid, I haven't really looked in to it lately as not really had time or money to get it to Stealth etc as just bought a house. Would be interesting to see what your problem was though.

Nope nothing yet, been too busy (and skint) with my new house so just been driving the car as it is. It's not effecting daily driving really, it's only when wanting to put your foot down at low revs it goes flat about 2k rpm but it picks up again about 3k rpm and then it's as normal so I've just got used to it :lol:

 

Only things I've done to the car lately is change the gearbox mount back to a mk2 TDI jobby over a VT solid one and it's made the engine a lot smoother and easier to drive so would recommend that if anyone's using VT mounts. I've still got a VT front mount though.

 

Going to be putting some slightly softer springs on the coilies after xmas as well as the 400lb ones that are standard on the Weitecs have just done my head in too much now and I NEED it more comfortable being a daily otherwise I'm just going to end up hating the thing! Going to ne renewing the MED top mount bearings as well because they are naffed already :lol:

 

She's also wearing the speedies again as got a puncture in one of the tyres on the RX's and couldn't get a new tyre straight away so will get it sorted at some point!

As spoken about in other thread with you, will be interesting to see how you get on with the softer springs...........suppose its cheaper plan 'a' rather than expensive KW plan 'b'.

Well yesterday me and Kev did some work on my car replacing the R32 wishbone bushes (dodgy garage didn't press them in properly last time and they were moving about inside the wishbone!) and MED bearings. Whilst I was at it I thought it rude not to buy his old wheels off him at the same time :lol: So she's now wearing some 8x17 WHITE Rotas which I think look pretty awesome, and give the car that aggressive stance I've missed from having the Brocks!

 

The car drives 100 times better now with the bushes and bearings done and the wheels are a big improvement too, the car feels much more planted on the road and I'm also quite pleased that they've not made the ride any crashier than on the 16's (but then these are the same weight!!).

 

Other than that no news on the flat spot I'm afraid :( house has swollowed up all my money for the past few months :lol: but got most things sorted now so can start saving again and then I might be able to give it to Vince to have a look at!

If I just had the money to buy the wheels then I would have put it towards getting it running better but these (hopefully!!) won't cost me anything once I've sold the RX's.
