andy_vw 0 Posted January 8, 2007 Hi All, Following a post in the Exterior section... After seeing how poor the quality of the ebay headlight looms at the moment. Being an electronics engineer by trade, I've decided to design & make some of my own. I'm still looking at all the possibilities at the moment so please bare with me. I aim to sell 3 versions: A "cheap" upgrade - like the ones seen on ebay, but cheaper & better quality - sleeved etc. These will come in at around £12-£13 each. A medium quality upgrade - using oem 4 way connectors - coming in around £25 - £30 (unless I can source the connectors else where) And last but not least I hope to develop a "plug & play" version. No cutting of cables required. Simply connect to battery. Unplug original loom, plug that loom into new loom, then plug new loom to headlights. Not sure how much this is likely to cost. I have sources to get connectors copied/made. But this would mean placing big orders with them to keep the costs down. I'll update this thread as I progress with my development. Posting pictures of prototypes etc. Could I ask people to add there name to an ongoing list of who wants what - that way I can see the numbers I'm dealing with. Also in later stages I will be asking people to "try out" the looms - By me sending them to you at a fraction of the normal price. All I ask is a small write up of how it went, what the problems were & what can be improved. This will be on first come, first served basis! Right... I better get researching! Andy. Note to mods - Hope I posted this in the right section
Dub_nut_g60 0 Posted January 8, 2007 Well done for taking this on Andy! Think you will be onto a winner if you can make something that is very OE and uses plugs to connect into loom. I know from experience that upgraded looms tend to die die to water getting into the relays, so you might want to think about a waterproof housing for the relays and probably fuses - just a thought. might cost more to make/buy but im sure people will be willing to pay the extra for something of a very high standard. Ill be more than happy to trial the loom for you if needed.
ReekieVR 0 Posted January 8, 2007 Plug and play for me please ( depending on price etc ). Available for testing if needed too.
ben16v 0 Posted January 8, 2007 IMO after fitting one of H100vw`s looms, i can defo recommend getting a quality piece of kits as andy sounds like he`s gonna make well worth the price
daves16v 1 Posted January 8, 2007 Well done for making the effort, I hope you have as much success as I have with the door handle repair kits. Plug & play please - depending on price.
A-J 0 Posted January 8, 2007 I've been put off upgrading the loom after stories of lights cutting out etc. The lights used to cut out in an escort I used to have.... very, very scary :shocked!: I also remember the engine would stall whenever I skooshed the windows. I first discovered that on a motorway! Dodgy electrics and poor lighting aren't much fun so I would be interested in a waterproof plug and play version. Goldie 2 Posted January 8, 2007 Id been keen on having the top of the range job also. Quite happy to trial if needed...
TheWizardofOdds 0 Posted January 9, 2007 Plug and Play for me.
vwdeviant 0 Posted January 9, 2007 Andy, Again Plug and play for me too don't much like the idea of hacking VW's looms about.... (Think I see a thred forming here). I'm sure there are enough dead Golfs/Polos in the yards to source the OEM plugs, but I guess they're not really designed to be "re-wired"... And will more than happily test it for you too.... filski 0 Posted January 9, 2007 well plug and play, but happy to test the 'meduim' quality loom if you want so not really bothered..will be good to have a quality loom put in. let us know what happens... nice on Andy.

vr-man 0 Posted January 11, 2007 Definately interested in an uprated wiring loom. Would have to be the top spec option, can't risk driving in the dark all of a sudden.
jam1n 0 Posted January 17, 2007 Would be very interested in plug and play, will it work on dipped, full beams and the spots?
Son of a Beesting 0 Posted January 17, 2007 Would be very interested in plug and play, will it work on dipped, full beams and the spots? If by spots you mean fogs then no as they are on a different wiring and I dont think they need to be uprated anyway you only need them when its foggy and not everyday. ving60 0 Posted January 17, 2007 I'd be interested in the P+P.
jam1n 0 Posted January 17, 2007 and I dont think they need to be uprated anyway you only need them when its foggy and not everyday. LOL Im not one of those that drive around with fogs on 24 7, but my rado was from Belgium and if you think UK lights are bad euro ones are actually worse (fogs included sadly) but still be interested and if you need euro car to test on
