was8v 0 Posted June 4, 2008 Where would I find one of these: Saw the pic on the corrado database website on a C in Dubai. Looks to be the only one that says 2.9? You normally get 2.8 or just DOHC over here.
paul20v 0 Posted June 4, 2008 wow is that a dirty engine , nice cover thou.
vwpeacecar 0 Posted April 12, 2020 reviving this from the dead... Does anyone have more info on this engine cover??? Which country (ies) got this cover and maybe some part numbers? I currently have this engine cover on my VR except with the 2.8 badge, not the 2.9 badge which I want. My engine cover came from the Japanese market. Dox 23 Posted April 12, 2020 From where I'm sitting you could grind out part of the 8 to make a 9? I'm not a fan of the look if I'm honest
vwpeacecar 0 Posted April 12, 2020 Nice thought. However I'm wanting the OEM look. Reason being is that I swapped my 2.8 intake mani for the 2.9.
fendervg 32 Posted April 12, 2020 Leave it as 2.8 and it will be a sleeper!
fendervg 32 Posted April 12, 2020 (edited) Not sure - but think your are looking at #11 on this diagram: http://www.oemepc.com/vw/part_single/catalog/vw/markt/RDW/modell/COR/year/1993/drive_standart/76/hg_ug/133/subcategory/37025/part_id/3691392/lang/e#sec_11 That sites lets you view the cats for different regions as well. ......BUT, actually I'm wrong, as that part appears to be just for the seal around the oil filler cap hole. vwpeacecar 0 Posted April 12, 2020 if I added the 2.9 badge, I think it might still be a sleeper. My AAA is fully built NA rocket. Bottom end is true 3.1, with the R32 crank ☺️ I found an OBD2 2.9 intake mani for my build and I'm really hoping to dress it up with the appropriate badge... Talked with Jamie at OrchidEuro and he's never seen it...
fendervg 32 Posted April 12, 2020 Ha ha. Fair enough - sounds like you might need a different badge entirely. To be honest, I’ve never seen a cover that says 2.9, although the engine was fitted to a few quite rare variations - the red paint though does not look standard - maybe an early distributor car? Dox 23 Posted April 12, 2020 I just can't get my head around what you want to do, maybe its being locked down sending me crazy..... You started with a donkey, stretched it to a thoroughbred, but want to label it as a zebra? I've not even had a drink - for over 3 weeks. No offence meant. Keyo 47 Posted April 12, 2020 How come the early VR came painted with the writing in red and blue VW emblem and later ones just in silver , did they run out of paint in the Karmann factory ha ?

Dont worry Dox when he sees how much a 2,9 trim sells for he will love the little AAA cover ha.

fendervg 32 Posted April 12, 2020 That could be it - it’s so dirty there that it’s hard to tell. I’d say debadge it. More in keeping with the mods.
Tigerfish 10 Posted April 12, 2020 Can’t help with sourcing that cover, but there is a better pic of one in this article https://www.whichcar.com.au/news/farewell-to-the-volkswagen-vr6-engine It looks much tastier in this pic to be fair. Dox 23 Posted April 12, 2020 It looks like something ford used to disguise the VW connection on the Galaxy MK1 (in conjunction with a carefully placed blue oval - off a big truck!).
Keyo 47 Posted April 12, 2020 IMO it is not factory and the strip although OE at some point has been glued on.

The covers I've seen are either 2.8 DOHC or VR6 DOHC. I have seen those coloured covers, but they are few and far between even on early cars so assumed they were aftermarket or had been painted. Happy to be proved wrong. 😉 Edited April 12, 2020 by seanl82
Keyo 47 Posted April 12, 2020 (edited) Yep 2.8 trim AAA and 2.9 DOHC ABV- and Ford has ugly V6 trim. Would be good to know what that trim is off that has been stuck on the engine trim on first picture on thread - might not even have been an original vag part. It looks to me like a side rubber decal that runs alongside of a car behind a fender. Or might well have been an engine trim decal.
