Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted December 16, 2010 Hello! Well... just to let you all know what I have been doing recently, I've been helping out a pal. Not sure if anyone on here is a member of SVAG forum but if you are then this - http://www.scottishvag.net/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=56031 Is the fella i've been helping. And for those that can't see the link, this member has a lovely mark 2 oak green golf GTI that he is currently trying to get back on the road. I've been getting dirty helping him with the body panels and last night helping him solve a brake problem. I'm hoping that my generosity will one day be rewarded with a possible shot of his lock-up! sooo, keep your ears pealed! :) Again.. for those who can't see the website (and who would rather not join, there being a membership fee) here's the culprit for not working on the rado while she is off the road. (sorry for the quality) 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfResizedORide11.jpg[/attachment:2hspdp95] DSC00164.jpg[/attachment:2hspdp95]
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted January 10, 2011 It's been almost 6 months since i last worked on the Corrado and over a year since she was last road legal... But I have finally started to DO something to get her back on the road! you: "What did you do pray tell?" Me: "well I went to Aberdeen of course!" you: " " Me: " ABERDEEN man! the home of MartinVR6 from ScottishVAG forum of course! He had a poor old G60 that was literally MINUETS from being scrapped" you: "oooooh, well that's obvious now you say it like that.... :? . Do continue..." Well the deal was that this chap has been wanting to scrap this car since before Christmas, I managed to speak to him and asked for him to wait till after the new year... I then wiggled a lift of my mate who owns the Oak Green Mark 2 above ^ and got shot of a estate with a sunroof and off we went! I got:- 1. Bonnet with no rust 2. Rear bumper 3. Sunroof and Mechanism and rubber seals 4. intact handbrake gaiter and surround 5. MFA and head light stalks 6. Cigarette lighter and loom 7. heated washer jet wiring loom 8. Brand New coil pack 9. rear windscreen wiper with plastic washer jet cover 10. OEM med kit for centre bolster. All for £50.... I knew my good karma would repay me one day! It's not all good though... the whole reason for going was mainly the rear bumper and the sunroof mech, However, the car had no battery to test the sunroof and the rear bumper beam is in a sorry state... The plastic is spotless but the brackets and bumper iron is beyond repair... still.... Was worth going for all the other little bits i reckon! Well chuffed! boost monkey 0 Posted January 10, 2011 Great updates Alex! Sorry to hear of all the problems you have had :-( Corrados can be so cruel. I'm kinda wondering why you didn't use the battery from the car you went up in to check the sunroof mech? That's what I would have done.
coullstar 0 Posted January 10, 2011 I put Martin onto that car so do I get some good Karma!! Its always good getting bits, get them fitted ASAP though as if your like me they will just lie about and never get fitted.
robrado974 1 Posted January 10, 2011 getting there slowly mate , its a shame that everything takes up so much time , i wonder how many c's on this forum spend more time in the garage than on the road ?, i never seem to get mine right .
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted January 10, 2011 I'm kinda wondering why you didn't use the battery from the car you went up in to check the sunroof mech? That's what I would have done. All the wiring loom had been removed from the car prior to me getting there... I didn't want to connect the motor directly to the battery so I thought i'd just leave it till i got back. Worst case it's useless... best case it does work and i got a sunroof mech for a pittance! :) I'm more disappointed by the bumper tbh.. mine is hanging on by a thread and I was hoping this one would help but I reckon it's beyond repair... The plastic however is in better condition than mine, my C's bumper is cracked and melted round the exhaust cut away so that's the only reason i took it... That and it was a bargain. I put Martin onto that car so do I get some good Karma!! Its always good getting bits, get them fitted ASAP though as if your like me they will just lie about and never get fitted. I'm surprised Martin wanted the car even with your recommendations, he seemed to think that all C's are better sent to the scrappy. I just kept quite, didn't want to annoy the sales man as it where... I'll have to re-spray all the panels and I'm in the middle of some deeeeeeeeeeeep cleaning on the Car (I'll post about that later tonight...) but don't you worry, the misses will ensure they get moved soon enough! Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted January 10, 2011 OK more info and pictures of the collection of parts I got from Aberdeen. I would also like some advice about this rear bumper that I'm worried about. Advice on how to proceed would be warmly welcomed. I would also like to know if VW sell the metal components separately? climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfAberdeen G60 parts 013.jpg[/attachment:151gjv0o] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfAberdeen G60 parts 021.jpg[/attachment:151gjv0o] Also got the following parts included... all for £50! not bad! Aberdeen G60 parts 022.jpg[/attachment:151gjv0o]
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted January 10, 2011 Also... As a side note. I've finally finished cleaning the upholstery! (it's only taken me 6 months! :brickwall: ) The stumbling block came when i had to move the corrado out of the lock-up it was in. Space then became a premium and with the weather the way it was I couldn't hand clean them. Also the products i was using didn't seem to do the job! However, i got a shot of my GF's dad's aqua vac the other day!! climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfAberdeen G60 parts 027.jpg[/attachment:3q39f0g4] I've still to do the Drivers side seat so when I've done that I'll show you just how much SH*T comes off these things :gag: But for now.. I'm keeping them wrapped up until the summer when they'll go back in the car... happy days! 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfAberdeen G60 parts 031.jpg[/attachment:3q39f0g4] (p.s. I also treated myself..... For those who don't own these i would highly recommend them...) Aberdeen G60 parts 033.jpg[/attachment:3q39f0g4]

mic_VR 3 Posted January 12, 2011 So this will all be back on the road and ready for BVF this year Alex?
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted January 12, 2011 So this will all be back on the road and ready for BVF this year Alex? That all depends on several key points... For BVF I'll need an MOT as a minimum and for that I'll need a new starter motor, suspension and radiator. I MAY be getting a bonus at work that could pay for this. However... I COULD be getting the boot in the next few weeks (it's complicated but basically we're waiting to get paid by a client). SOOOoo yeah i could have it ready by then but realistically, It's probably gunna be ready sometime after BVF. :( Still! I'm aiming high... Things are looking up. Heres hoping! :notworthy:
Philuk 0 Posted January 13, 2011 in the whole idea of looking a total numpty, how do they work? is it essentially an easy-out for bolts?
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted January 13, 2011 in the whole idea of looking a total numpty, how do they work? is it essentially an easy-out for bolts? you referring to the Irwin Bolt removers? They have concentric spirals in the head of the sockets that grip rusted, painted over and rounded off bolts to allow you to take them off without drilling them. Great for old cars :salute:
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted January 13, 2011 Ordered a new starter motor from ebay. Went to Vag first and got quoted £157 odd... so i said "screw you!" and went online and got it for £50. happy days! It says OEM in the advert so I assume its Bosch... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... SA:GB:1123

SA:GB:1123 Nice find, its a genuine original motor that has been refurbished (you can tell by the black paint overspray) so for £50 a complete bargain. As for a radiator, you can get brand new original G60 radiators from VW classic parts (not sure if you can order through the dealer or not) but its going to set you back a lot of money, nearly £400 inc VAT... WOW.... Thats Amazingly expensive! Could i use a different Rad? Edit: Just looked on VAG cat... OEM rad part no. 535121251B is 225.5 Euro. Is that the right part? Just looked on VW classic.... 297.08 € (£247.80...) kinda out of my price range.
swiftkid 1 Posted January 13, 2011 When I popped my old radiator I took it to a local radiator specialist near me and they refurbed it or whatever they do for just over £100.
