I'd like to say I'm shock but could see this coming.

I've had good and bad service from them, but I think for G60 owners they went down hill after moving into air ride/Rotiform

Hopefully Darren will bounce back into the G60 world, and stay away from anything too "scene" again.

I cant say I'm surprised, and as much as I've said for years now that their customer service was appalling and selective, it's a huge shame to hear that they've gone under, loosing a business takes a huge toll on a personal level and lots of people will have lost out, not least whatever staff were there :(

 

I think the point at which they went from being forced induction/tuning specialists to being scene queens was the start of the downfall, years ago the business thrived from good will and quality workmanship rather than leading trends and supplying the lastest fads,'and as quick as the Internet/forums/social networks can build businesses they can break them too.

 

 

Best of luck to them and anyone who's currently out of pocket etc

I don't understand how they screwed it up. They had a very loyal following and a good reputation, and from what I could see had people queueing up to give them business. Absolutely baffling.

 

And wow - not a lot of love on the R32OC. Didn't realise they had been quite so prolific at giving people the run around! :(

At the end of the day, if people are willing to hand over £1000s for leather lined engine bays and Bentley wheels, G-werks would be foolhardy to turn it down. I always got the impression they were one dimensional anyway. Great with Gladers but average with everything else. There are only a finite amount of Gladers around, so they had to pull in income from elsewhere.

 

Only the well established, conservative and genuinely multi-talented companies will ultimately survive. Trends come and go. Stability and reliability are what keep people coming back for more, not the ability to glue bits of armchair hide to an airbox.

Tbh I had nothing but chew with them back when I had my g60. Wouldn't wish that on anyone but from all the other things I've heard something had to give.

Reasons beyond our control ...

 

Creditors and/or tax/VAT would be the obvious guess. Which usually means cashflow issues.

Very sorry to hear about this. There has beeen good and bad reviews of them on here over time, however I've been working with Darren on my G60 for nearly 7 years now. My first experience with him was buying a black carpet from him when I first got my car - while I was down there he happened to mention that he was a G60 specialist and was starting a company, and at that point my work with the g60 was born. He was always there at the end of the phone when I needed him, he didn't waste my time recommending things I didn't need, he kept an eye out for certain spare parts for me when I needed them. I'll miss your presence in the the G60 world mate...

Sad to see them go but in a way an example of what happens when you change your customer base and move into a niche area of the market - throw in a major economic downturn and unfortunately it all goes belly up.

 

Never had any issue with G Werks personally and Darren helped me out massively at very short notice but I can't say I liked the scene stuff they were producing as it just wasn't my thing.

Of the 5 of my friends who have used them, Gwerks had a 100% record of giving crap service. Nice bloke, rubbish businessman.

^Pretty much this unfortunately.

 

From personal experience Darren was a lovely bloke but a rubbish businessman.. Saying that; he lasted 6 years and became one of the most well known and influential companies in the scene. From the sounds of things he's let things slip in the past year or so.. We don't know what happens behind closed doors and the reason for the closure.

 

Business's going down are always a sad thing to see happen. I just hope no one has severely lost out.

Sad to hear and read about this happening.

 

As a company owner myself I know how easy it is for outsiders (those folk that just have comfy dayjobs as employees ;) ) to criticise company owners in the sense of saying "they should have done this, they should have done that". All very easy to say, but try doing it yourself better.

 

Personally I always valued Darren's honest opinions on my own car. Yes, he was selling what you could call tat, and yes, he even, when pushed hard, admitted that, and was very honest in his advice to me to not fit stuff like boost-return-pipe-deletion kits etc. I respected him for that.

 

I have had 2 excellent experiences with him, where he went far beyond what could reasonably expected of anyone running a business (don't forget, a business needs to generate profit, much as we as customers wish to deny this), for example spent 2 hours removing my G-Lader instead of the usual 30 minutes, didn't charge me anything extra for that, spent a whole day overhauling my Lader, all the while allowing me to watch and learn, insisted on me not leaving the premises at around 20:00 until he had gotten oil lines for the Lader from his local VW dealership (who he even made come back to work), so that my freshly overhauled Lader would not suffer oil starvation due to clogged oil lines. In the run up to me bringing down my Rado for the G-Lader overhaul, I enquired what parts he was exactly going to use, since this is crucial that only approved parts are used. He made no secret of the parts, sent me their part numbers, which i could cross-reference with German forums where I have friends who work for companies like FAG, who make the bearings and seals for the G-Lader overhaul. I watched him take these parts from the packaging, all genuine. Haven't come across anyone else offering that much openness in an area that is otherwise notoriously closed and black-magicky (for no apparent reason to me).

 

Second time I simply wanted to collect new injectors, he fitted them free of charge! Intake manifold had to be removed even, because my Rado was once again putting up a fight.

 

That all may be some time ago, but even more recently when I contacted him with a query I had a reply by email within 24 hours with a once again honest answer to my question.

I can agree with tempest. I too, had my charger rebuilt and stage 4'd a few months ago but unfortunately, like topaz2008, the experience had left me exhausted due to lack of customer service and an absolute age to get it back to me. Though as an apology he had fitted a new 68mm pulley and belt free of charge. More recently, I have had running problems with the car and he has also been quick to reply to my emails with knowledgeable and honest advice, and even offering a healthy discount on a new chip to help the issues. All in all, regardless of what he seemed to follow to be 'scene' he, and g-werks's actual work is great and was impressed once I had the charger back. I can agree that as a business they had some major flaws, but the work done was very good and Darren is a good honest, and knowledgable guy. It's a shame really.
