Help £10, 500 corrado vr6 storm 40 odd k

Hi my friend wants to buy a raddo and has been offered an apparently emaculate vr storm with 40 odd k on the clock.

 

Question is £10k, i tthink 9k is about right

 

Your thoughts please.

That's laughably overpriced.. I'd say about 7k-8k to be honest. Corrado values just aren't that strong yet.

 

And I'd expect to be literally immaculate from top to bottom.

Value is in the eye of the beholder but I would never pay that much for any Corrado.

 

It may be potentially immaculate but it will still need the same extortionately-priced, possibly obsolete parts buying for it when things go wrong/break. It will still suffer from all the usual Corrado traits.

 

Personally I would prefer to buy one with 100k that had a folder of receipts for £10k.

That's ridiculous money, Corrado values are all over the place but at present a more realistic figure is required I think.

Well a car (for that matter anything else) is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. However, the following are the prices used by the classic trade as a guide, and they are alot lower than some may think...

 

Concours Mint Good

Corrado G60 £5,250 £4,650 £2,000

Corrado VR6 £5,500 £4,750 £2,000

 

And for comparison, here a some Fords, which are higher than some would think...

 

Sapphire Cosworth £8,000 £7,250 £4,000

Cosworth RS500 £25,000 £20,000 £12,500

Escort mk1 RS1600 £32,000 £26,000 £18,000

Escort RS Turbo £5,500 £4,500 £2,850

 

And as with any classic car, if they are modified in a "silly way" and they are not honest straight cars, then forget about these prices as they are worth far less.

In the current market I would suggest 7k if in fantastic condition. It will still need lots of work doing to it over the next few years simply due to age. With such low mileage, unless parts have been proactively replaced over the years, then lots of the plastic and rubber parts of the coolant system, bushes, etc, could still be perished.

 

C5 OEMs car was amazing condition, probably much better than an unused storm, and that struggled to sell for much. The only real difference was high mileage but for a little outlay you could have rebuilt the engine or swapped it. So no way would I pay 10k for this one.

There are plenty of threads on here showing the amount of work that is required for a Corrado to be in a seriously good condition.. and most of that work is underneath where it is more difficult to pay that much attention when viewing a car.

 

I'm not going to comment on what is a fair price but for any Corrado to be considered 'immaculate' I would say have a very long and detailed look at what is going on underneath.

Bodywork and interior condition is reasonably easy to guage.

I'd echo what Butterfly has said. There are alot of Corrado's that look great on the surface, all nice and shiny. However, it is the bits that you don't see that are just if not more important. How many times on the forum has someone removed the front bumper to find worrying corrosion behind it? Many times.

If concours Corrado's are going for around the £6,000 to £7000, then why would anyone pay more for one that would be best described as in good condition? Take a look at concours show winners and you'll see what the standard is. I recently looked at a concours show winning RS2000 which was well known on the RS scene. Every label, sticker was on the car. No welding or respray. Every part was OE and it was like it had just left the factory. It sold recently for I believe around £20,000. That car is 35years old and it is now a very very rare sight on todays roads. So a Corrado has some way to go and not there just yet...

Ta peeps, my m8 has tried to barter the guy down, I haven't seen the car myself but he won't budge, apparently he's extremely loaded and can afford to sit on it until it becomes worth 10k (if)...........

If your mate has that sort of money to pay for a Corrado then I know who I'd be phoning to make an offer. I recently sold mine, when I put it for sale I thought it would take months, I also knew I had a price I would not go below.

Tell your friend to take his money and look elsewhere - he'll find better for less.. and let the other guy sit on the car, if he can afford to do so.

What does your friend want out of the car?

 

If he wants a mint, low mileage storm then he's going to be pretty stuck for options. If the guy wont budge from 10k then there's not much he can do!

 

If he wants a mint standardish VR6 and has that kind of money there's a couple of people he could wave money at and hope for the best.

 

If he wants an R32 get him to give me a call :lol:

I think 6-7 would about right if it's standard.

 

I would only pay more for something like the heavily worked on 4wd turbo type stuff with retrimmed recaros and bbs splits, or a car with a recent strip and spray with photos etc.

Well, apart from my natural tendency to scepticism which agrees with the comments above that there's no Corrados worth that, I would like to say that MAYBE just maybe that one car is worth the asking price. For that, I would expect it to have been garaged its whole life (no temperature extremes to rot plastics and rubber, no moisture creep into subframes, and no rot), and it should be TRULY immaculate. And, of course, he would HAVE to be able to prove that with a legit history and full service record.

The only trouble with buying a car like that, if that's what it truly is, is that you're throwing money down the drain if you drive it or you don't keep it that way.. Put 30k miles on it and it's no longer truly low miles. Attract a few stonechips and it's no longer truly immaculate. It's on the cusp of being a classic, but you've got to be committed to keep it that way.

If you want a car you can drive and enjoy without being paranoid, those are NOT the type of cars to be looking at, and maybe the seller knows this and wants to keep the price high so that only a collector is going to be interested - someone who will cherish it the same way.

On the other hand, it's an interesting fact to note that there are still a few cars around with such low miles and perhaps in the kind of condition that will one day be in a museum. Nice to know that.
