16VG60 0 Posted August 22, 2014 Hi all, Since I have been the owner of my Corrado G60 since 1993 and it has metamorphosed more times than The Doctor, I thought it was time I started a thread on G60 PJM's past and future. This is the last time I will make significant change to my Corrado, at least that's what I told my long suffering Wife! So if it is to be the last morph, I had better make it a good'en :). So following on from my G Lader letting go after 23 years loyal service on our return journey from Stanford Hall 25th birthday meet (that's the Corrado, not mine), the logical thing to do of course was a simple repair, to make the car lighter, more powerful and add some extra traction features, "of course!" you all say!! So with this simple fix in mind I set about my final build. I am documenting my progress as a build thread, on our own JMR website, and given that this is a time consuming process, instead of duplicating everything onto this thread, if you click the link you can see how it's all comming together. http://www.johnmitchellracing.co.uk/vehicles/corrado-16vt/ But as a little taster here are some pics to illustrate past, present and future of my Corrado. In the beginning Karmann created Corrado G60 OEM was my greatest pleasure for the time to follow, until I was reminded how tasty the fruits are on the tuning tree. The 8V engine received a Schrick cam, G Force charger rebuild, 68mm pulley, AMD chip (the original AMD), ported head, Scorpion exhaust, oil cooler, and my own charge cooler system. Later you will see my first generation 16VG60 engine with twin air intakes. The Dietrech RS front bumper was introduced to duct air to the RS2 intercooler. Also changed were the OEM BBS wheels for 17" BBS, the Inpro crystal rear lights (not a good addition in hind sight), and sill trims. This was the last configuration with our fourth generation JMR 16VG60 300BHP engine, 968 Clubsport inspired trim, carbon fibre bonnet, roof, rear spoiler and seats, JMR engine breather system, JMR 280mm rear brake upgrade, Brembo 4 pots with lightweight 304mm x 30mm rotors & bells, JMR Stage 5 G Charger, JMR G Charger Toothed belt drive system, Audi RS6 oil cooler modified for dual pass, 02A gearbox with CTN ratios and Quaife LSD, KW Clubsport coil overs, JMR fuel pump upgrade, Milltek custom built twin exit exhaust, and so much more. 16VG60 0 Posted August 22, 2014 Hi Jim, the concept has been fermenting in my head for many years now, but I needed a very good reason to remove the G Lader element from my G60. The whole concept of entertaining that action was the subject matter for a very emotive mental battle. The only way it was ever going to happen was on the event of my G Lader grenading, as I just couldn't bring myself to remove it before it's time had expired. Jim 1 Posted August 22, 2014 My antivirus software is blocking the pictures for some reason, but there's a tonne of pictures in the blog. Fascinated to see the engine will be dry sumped too, not to mention fitted with the latest Garret GTX turbo... should be quite a spectacular machine when it's all finished. I have always set out to build that which gives me pleasure, but it's all the more rewarding when other like minded souls express their words of recognition. From the first moment I set eyes on the pre-production photos of the Corrado, and then later at Dealer when I PDI'd and test drove the first "F" plate cars into the UK, I knew in my heart that one day I would own a Corrado, and furthermore give it the engineering to perform as well as it looks. Its taken twenty-seven years so far, and the story nearly has a final chapter. In answer to your Q coullstar, the engine is based on the 9a block, to give it a shorter stroke, 2 litre capacity. and retains the much needed oil squirters for piston cooling and lubrication. I am going to keep the info comming and share with you all my progress. Am looking forward to a rainy Bank Holiday weekend, wherein I can spend time working on my Corrado without feeling, or being made to feel guilty in doing so :)!
