Davina air con

Recommended Posts

I might have some good news with a replacement evaporator. Today I took the old unit to a manufacturer who is 3 miles from me... Unbelievable. He said they are going to 3D image it and get back to me. And he sees no reason why they wouldn't be able to do it.

So, fingers crossed and hopefully a sensible cost. I will keep this thread updated

Good luck with this.

Looks like the engine pipe work for mine will need replacing, has anyone any idea on where I could source these pipes?

Assuming you have the Diavia system installed, just take them off and to a hose manufacturer. Lots around just Google hydraulic hose replacement, They do any hose and fitting. If everything else is ok has your evaporator/drier been replaced lately? This sits behind the front grille in front of the condenser. Well worth a replacement as the part is less than 30 pounds

Cheers for that, I’ll give that a whirl, it is a Diavia system, yes replacing the drier too.

Is there any major difference in the various compressors? I've got a spare Sanden which i might try and refurb (if it needs it. Cant be too difficult surely?? Famous last words...)

I had a quick look into this and read that some are direct and some are indirect... worth comparing product numbers first. I have one here off the car

I used a trolley Jack with a block of wood. Left it there for months and was fine supporting it as only the front mount is removed. Good luck with it.

I did try replying off my phone yesterday, but only got that stupid error coming up!!

Jobs to do while the front bumper is off...

I’ve changed all the air co pipes and seals... new receiver drier... condenser and compressor look okay.

Any maintenance needed on the compressor apart from new belt..

Where’s the evaporator in the passenger foot well ... not looked yet.

Any thing else need doing before recharge.

Founds some nuts. So put the bumper bolts back in, to support the engine while the bumper is out

The evaporator is behind the glovebox and bolted through the air vent. On removing the complete unit it was an absolute pain to split. I wouldn't recommend doing it unless you have a problem with the evaporator. I still haven't sourced a replacement yet..

Is this a good replacement part for the condenser

Just sheared the lower connection off mine.

Part number cross references, just wondering on quality.

That is the one I purchased. On fitting my old hose to the new condensor I ruined the thread. Tried an old spare hose and this was the same, which leads me to believe they are different threads!!!

I looked at my old condensor and that had been ruined / botched, so please check yours. I think they have never been right so take your condensor to your hose man to check b4 fitting

EVAPORATOR update. The firm I went to do the 3d image decided they couldn't do it!! But would help me change the fittings if I got one similar.

So....After days/weeks/months of looking at the internet and contacting people i thought i had found the perfect item. It was a Webasto/Diavia item and the measurements were perfect for fitting in the box. I asked the company to confirm these sizes as it is a special order Non returnable (WTF) £160 with parliament tax. As the specialist dealer all i got was, that's what the catalogue says. Desperation, i finally took the plunge.

4 weeks later after walking to here from Italy!! You guessed it, too bloody Big. WAN###S (Sorry)point to note:- measurements are approximate, really..4 whole centimetres longer.

So, went to the local firm for altering things and he says " too busy, no can do " WAN###S ( anyone spot a theme here )

6 months on with the Corrado high and lows and still no further on... I'm sure it won't beat me but I understand why people RIP IT OUT..

Breathe, breathe..

Next attempt is to get in touch with the Land of China to see if they can copy my original. And if so to get a few made.

So a day off with man flu isn't wasted, as I start to learn Mandarin, for beginners.

HELP.....

Oh, for sale. 1 expensive oversized evaporator that will never fit a Corrado

:bonk::dance::epicfail::epicfail:

You poor man. Have you tried the USA, there must be someone in California who can help. They need air con there. I’m not laughing honest. I’ve bought a few parts I was informed fitted but didn’t, temper tantrum moments. Chin up, move on.

Hi Cressa, sorry to hear this.

Can you send me some dimensions and images - we source various items from manufacturers in China and there are a few that we know although they manufacture components for industrial heat exchangers. I don't mind asking them to see what they can do, if that's of any help?

Further update..

I have sourced an evaporator that FITS in the box and has the correct size pipes. BUT the pipes do need altering to fit in the correct position.

225mm long x 210mm wide x 75mm deep. VW no. 1j2820024A for RHD,

NRF part no. 36106

Hella 8fv-351210771. I bought this one as it was only £62 off Ebay, so I'm going to try it. This part has gone to my mate who manufactures trailers, in the hope he can sort the pipes. He said he could... but I am used to being let down on this.

Watch this space..

And,

I managed to fall out with the guy that was making my pipes over some nuts that were left on !! and the £180 cost of them all.

During this time I asked the aircon firm to make me some instead....

To be right with the first company I paid up but wasn't happy with my OCD.. Anyone want a complete replacement set of hoses???

My aircon firm actually made the hoses up during this time...... so i have ended up with two sets. With this set costing me more than double the first price, but they are nice and shinier.

Christ this Corrado tax is expensive.

Note to self, look for a different hobby

I got my pipes from pirtek. 120 each but I did a cash deal in the end for 80 each, a donation to the Friday beer and curry fund. I guess it ain’t that bad after it’s pressure tested... I was a bit peed off... thought it was better than stripping the front end again in the future.
