I don't know if this is relevant but wasn't water leakage into the cabin the subject of an official Corrado recall by VW some years back?

HELP - Number plates nicked and alarm had been triggered!!!!
STORM 2 replied to martyjmcfly's topic in General Car Chat
probably because these neanderthals just like to point at things and grunt : "me like...me take..." The concept of earning money honestly and then purchasing want you want escapes them. I for one would love to catch one in the act and employ the use of an old rusty breadknife I have reserved for their goolies.  -
Well my intial enthusiasm turned to sheer bloody frustration a few days later when the same problem recurred with a vengeance  Anyway I've had a couple of interesting weeks with the car......after the problem came back, I lost all my coolant on the M27 through a 1mm split in the main coolant hose going into the block and had to call the RAC out for some amalgamating tape! The car was booked into VW for some warranty work and one of the engineers ( a good guy ) had another look at the problem.....VAG-COM was now throwing up the Hall Sender as an intermittent problem. Turns out that VAGCOM doesn't always throw up this fault even if it is present - don't know why. Anyway Richie in parts (another good guy who's found a VSR inlet for peanuts which he's grafting onto his Golf VR6) finds a Hall sender in Southampton and arranges for me to pick it up on Good Friday which I do (cost £30) Friday I spend most of the day on the car: 1. Drain coolant - both by drain plug and by removing upper and lower radiator hoses. Took off expansion tank and scrubbed all the rusty crap out of it. Removed the damaged hose and replaced with new hose (from VW around £35 with CCGB discount). BTW - if anyone has any trouble with the spring hose clips and doesn't want to fork out £100 for the Hazet pliers that VW use, I found some cheap ones in Halfords with made spring clip removal a doddle - they cost a tenner. Anyway refilled with G12+ and circulated around the system. 2. removed radiator cowl to confirm that my thin V belt attaching powered fan ( on the right) to passive fan (on the left) was missing thus giving me only one fan. I already had this belt so i just put it on-5 minute job- so worth checking if youre running high temps) 3. Removed old Hall sensor ( right hand side of the camshaft) very easy to do once youve got the right hand side of the plastic inlet cover off. replaced with new part. Quick job about 15 minutes Well I pleased to report after caning it up to Cardiff today ( for the Wales v Austria match) my efforts seem to have paid off. Oil and water temperatures have remained 5-10 degrees lower (when pushing VERY hard) misfiring has GONE (fingers crossed) and the idle is much smoother power delivery is instant. So much so that having taken everything replaced into account, the car is punching much better than when I bought it. Sorry I seem to have waffled on somewhat - but I hope this helps someone! I know rough running can be bloody frustrating but I think I've got to the bottom of this one finally. The real problem is when you get two or more problems at the same time and having one intermittently makes it more confusing. But I'd advise everyone who's scratching their heads to replace the cheap and easy things anyway - ie coolant sender and Hall sender, fuel filter, plugs and even HT leads.

Hi all have been trying to hard wire the phone charger and roadangel leads into the back of the cigarette lighter....anyone got any do's or dont's (yes I'll disconnect the battery) Do I need the 12V resistor on the power lead? there are three wires coming out of the cigarette socket - anyone know what the third is for? cheers would be interested to know if anyone has done this :)

the boys at Breeze mentioned you'd been in for an armful of stuff for your latest trick.......can't wait to see it And yes, between you and PhatVR6 we should christen the MKIV Corrado soon :changes: -
any of you guys know if its easy enought to install VW MFD (vers D or G) navigation into the Corrado? Does the C have 2 DIN? or can we get past this? anyone done this mod cos I cant find anything on the search
-
you need to get underneath and loosen 2 bolts - one on either side - and the bumper should pull out as far as I can remember
-
did you fit the parking sensors yourself?
-
my £15 worth - the sprinter should not be turned into the essence of the CCGB....I pay my sub because I want to keep the Corrado alive - and any self respecting cherished car owner should have the ability to join a club in order to do that. Plus I have benefitted several times with my 10-15% discount at VW, GSF and mailorder tool companies(!) as well, so well done to JrB and Im sorry I didn't send in an article but I only joined relatively recently. I also agree with Storm...this thread and the CCGB's current dilemmas make it all the more apparent what an excellent resource we have in the CF and more credit...and donations should be forthcoming to Andi especially by regular users of the site....

Ive done this mod, works OK but the Maplin's buzzer isnt half crude and deafening......I like the 'bong-bong' warning sound that you get on more modern cars......anyone know where I can get one.....? ??are they separate units on the modern cars (thinking scrappy here) or are they incorporated into the light units??
-
well done mate, you got it bang on there!! had the coolant temp sender changed and all is well in the land of the Corrado......running sweet as the day she was born!! Better in fact, having spent hundreds replacing various bits and bobs. Cheers!!

I tried the Supreme stuff on four separate occasions because I was in self denial that it was causing problems because I was able to get it close by and relatively cheaply. I SOOO WANTED it to be like Optimax or even Ultimate but on each occasion, filling a nearly empty tank, the car almost immediately changed rev and idle characteristics. Began to run very roughly low down in the rev range like it was protesting against the pedal. My own opinion is (and I am no expert) that it accentuated any idling or revving deficiencies that already may be present. Almost as though fuel delivery was struggling.... Anyway I've made my mind up not to use the stuff anymore....infact its put me off using Esso fuels altogether.

is BP Ultimate 100RON?
-
I've had nothing but trouble with that new Esso stuff. Tried Optimax, BP Ultimate without any problems but she DIDN'T like the Esso stuff. In fact The Sainsburys low sulphur Super Unleaded is her favourite, and its thankfully quite cheap at 80.9p litre

i wouldn't worry about those temperatures...but asSupercharged, says, check that switch.....
-
i'm going to try the fuel pump, i think....if no joy, i'll have to do the injectors and or the MAF sensor...... Am I correct in thinking the MAF sensor is like a blade sticking into the air intake pipe?
-
surely if oil gets into the throttle body and valve it can't be good ?

T-Shirt Order Thread - back up for sale as of 04/06/05!!!

Red=Fast, pm sent hope I'm not too late -
I took apart my air intake pipe - specifically the section with the MAF sensor attached - to find oil in the bottom of it. The oil hadn't reached the throttle body (but was close) From what I can gather it looks as thought its come from the oil pressure regulating valve connected to the air intake My questions are: 1. is this something to worry about? 2. Why is the pressure regulating valve connected to the air induction? 3. the PRV was replaced recently (used the Ford Galaxy one- identical to VW) - is it supposed to let oil through? cheers

will try this too :)

stevemac, come to think of it the connector does look pristine...so maybe is another one of Wolfsburg's ways to confound us all in later years
