both the wire from the oiltemp sender on the oil filter housing and the wiring from the water temp sender on the head thermo housing run TOGETHER to the cylindrical loom just heind the aux water pump. A common problem with age is a leaky aux pump. When it leaks it can get into the cylindrical loom and cause a LOW/ --- MFA OIL TEMP and crazy water temps. So check this large cylindrical connector for corrosion.

cheers Gavin, I'll have one if its going ..pm sent

Can anyone recommend a waterproof replacement? Mine goes off everytime it rains..tried re-siting it to no avail. I've had to disconnect it now

****takes a deep breath**** well, turns out that VAG-COM was pointing to ECU problems so I was trying to identify the wiring to the ECU from the ECT sensor. Having checked out the ECU - all terminals were corrosion free including port 14 housing the termination from the ECT sensor wire. Also malfunctioning was the single wire from the MFA oil temp sensor. I tried tracing these from their housing to the ECU (ECT only, I know) but got halfway aroung the vicinity of the aux coolant pump. Now I replaced this a few weeks ago when the saga of my cooling problems began as the plastic gasket had cracked spitting small quantities of dirty brown coolant into the engine bay. Having replaced the pump and then basically everything else in the coolant system...we were down to the electrics.....as you correctly surmised in a previous thread. Changing the expansion tank DID alleviate the problem but as you thought didn't resolve the issue. ANYWAY, turns out that coolant from the aux coolant pump had ingressed into the nearby cylindrical loom and taking this apart last night I found whats shown in the photo below. A temporary fix was employed by way of a thorough clean whilst I have ordered replacement connectors and wires. Suffice to say the issue is definately now sorted and thanks to your diagnostic tips I am much wiser to the ways of corrado electrics.

Great RW1, you've resolved another problem - you've got my vote for Most Useful Forum Member! Cheers

into the ECU itself. . Oh Im glad youre around RW1!! If VAG-COM posts up a fault with the ECU connector- and the coolant gauge/light and oil temp are faulty - which wires should be tested? Are the coolant gauge wires and the oil temp wires associated in any way at any point?
-
found one!.....the one at the back of the battery floor - can't find the one related to the coolant sensor though.....and nothing near the head?

dazzyvr6, how much do you want for it? Is there just one loom going into the ECU? -

Hi Folks Can any one recommend a good auto electrician in the South (bournemouth/Southampton), either visiting or fixed? The main connector to my ECU is corroded and causing problems. VAG have 'refused' to do the job - honestly informing me that 3 hours labour would be ripping me off (they DO have a conscience after all) Anyone had this problem? -
where did you get the spring hose clips from? Come to think of it, where did you get the hoses from?
-
is it next to the rear engine mount? I'm notsure ...anyone?
-
I tend to put a small blob of blue tac in the screw head so I dont drop the screw using non magnetised drivers
-
is the same relay responsible for the above. Does anyone know its number and location? cheers
-
Do you know if its a green wire?
-
so presumably it goes from the sensor straight to the MFA?
-
Anyone know where the relay is for the oil temp sensor which goes from the oil filter housing (presumably via a relay) to the MFA? I've replaced the sensor with no joy.... and still getting "---" on the MFA display
-
Is this the same thing for much less money? I've already downloaded the software from Ross tech so if I buy this from ebay will it work? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-KKL-Vag-Com-C ... dZViewItem

did you get this sorted Petros, ?

i find its helpful too when some numpty comes up behind you with 800000w headlamps - when its up its cuts out the glare completely......and everything else i suppose -

when my speed sensor was kaput, the spoiler would be up and down every few seconds whilst driving. At 100mph you can feel the difference when it suddenly goes down believe me! I must admit I was more concerned what people were making of the spoiler shennanigans - the must have thought the car was fitting or something
