Hurrah - problem solved! :D :D :D
-
Hi can you put up a picture of the sensor please. sorry mate - both GSF sensors are on the car mate. Unfortunately I still havent driven it because I fell asleep after the last post and just woke up now
-
Grimmy, I suspect that while installing the suspension it may be that the sensor may have been knocked out of sync with the rotor. So you may have a situation where one gap is small and the otherside may be large - i think this confuses the ABS into thinking the wheels may be locking each time you press the brake pedal. Because you have an intermittent problem - I suspect that either the suspension unit may be knocking against the sensor, OR the sensor plug is under pressure. Once there is discontinuity the light comes on and you have normal braking (albeit withtout ABS).When there is connection the head of the sensor may be in a position that feeds erroneous input to the ABS brain, ie too far way or incorrectly aligned with the rotor. Bear in mind that it may be the rotor that has been damaged or warped during the suspension installation. Worryingly, the ABS activated by itself today whilst taking a sharp corner, I didn't even touch the brake pedal

OK, just had another look at the car. Specifically, I suspect the problem is the gap between the rotor and the sensor. Replacing the VAG sensor with a GSF one may also have something to do with it. Went up to VAG today to see if I could get an original sensor to match my non faulty one, but guess what? They only do a replacement (siemens i recall) which I think is the same as the GSF one apart from the price (VAG PRICE £50---GSF PRICE £15 Anyway bought another sensor for the other side from GSF and made sure that both sensors were equally placed from the rotors about 5mm away. The gap wont be uniform as the wheel spins with 11 year old rotors but I don't think that was causing the problem. I haven't tried the car yet, but I m hoping it wil solve the problem. If not I'll just disconnect the sensors and do without ABS - its much safer than having no confidence in your braking.

Hi folks just replaced the front offside ABS sensor (GSF replacement) and have a major problem. The warning light is now OFF, so it looks like the sensor did need replacing. However the ABS seems to activate at any opportunity under braking. Occurs especially just before coming to a halt or even worse when gently braking at normal speeds - leading to some pant wetting moments. Is there some sort of ABS reset procedure? Also when it does cut in, the warning light fails to come on to let you know that the ABS system has been activated? Any ideas? cheers

Hi Bally, any chance of a wiring sketch, cos I need to get the high beams wired up somehow without having to buy a second set of ballasts. Did you use an uprated loom?
-
great set of pics mate - i like the way you set up the wiring I need a 6000k setup for H7 bulbs for the high beam - where can i buy the Mcculloch set?

Whats an implausible signal? As opposed to NO signal? Is the Vehicle Speed Sensor(gearbox ) the same thing as the Engine speed sensor ? Full Error Code from VAG-COM :: 00281 VSS (G68) 27-00 - IMPLAUSIBLE SIGNAL There are no problems with engine running - only problem is the spoiler not raising at speed - could it be the wiring from the VSS to the main loom connector (the twisty one next to the coolant pump?)
-
AHHHHH silly me :) so where did you get your kit from ? what would you advise for a bixenon setup?
-
Why do you need 3 kits on one car? 2 for a bi-xenon setup but whats the third for? And where did you get the kits? I'm after a bixenon setup now

Thanks Doc, I've just ordered a pair from VW- £85.59 inc VAT for a pair of front calipers inc exchange. Not bad at all really
-
cheers guys - managed to get it off with a wooden mallet. The piston is badly corroded on its outer rim surface - I wire brushed as much off as I could. I tried to get the rubber seal out without much success so have just put everything back together ---just have to wait until it all seizes up again :(

Hi all I have a front offside seized caliper which I'm trying to take off and service. I have both the caliper carrier and caliper bolts off but can't get the caliper off as the pads are stuck tight to the disc. I can't even lever something between the pad and disc to try and get the piston back as the pads and discs are quite new (Brembo  ) Any tips gratefully received!!

Cheers Mark Done all that and the wiring was fine. Just took the head unit to a local car audio place and its not working there either! £300 quid and less than 7 months old! He thinks its the audio chip................:-(

Hi dinkus - thanks for that - although now I have no sound from any speaker!! Well I tried a direct +/- connection from a speaker to the speaker out terminals of the head unit without any sound...does this mean there's a problem with the head unit? Tried all four sets of terminals on the speaker out block and none of them gave out a sound There's no fuse / relay for the speakers is there? Is there any other way of testing the head unit?
-
Hi, maybe this will be a straightforward answer that I just cant see Having replaced the front stock speakers with Alpine components , I am only getting sound from the drivers side.Right side all wired up ok with sound coming from both tweeter and woofer (and the stock dash R tweeter I have left in) Tried switching the speaker to the other side and it works, so the speakers are OK I assume the speaker lead goes straight from the door to the headunit loom - surely there's no room for malfunction here? Really narking me this :(
-
yalan - I wanted a bong /chime sound thats easier on the ears. It also sounds more authentic. If anyone can knock up a wiring diagram of a piezo mated to the light switch I'd be grateful

Hi all Out of the 7 wires in the loom to the spoiler control module, I am at a loss to explain 2 of the three wires heading to the car's brain as opposed to the tail. The brown wires (both seated in terminal 6) are ground/negative I'm sure. The other two heading centrally (as opposed to the tail and the spoiler switch) are white/blue at terminal 8 and black/blue at terminal 2. Does anyone know where these 2 are heading? More importantly, is one of them carrying the speed sensitive signal? Bentley says white/blue heads to 'current track 73' and black/blue seems to split into 4 :- a) current track 170 b) 2 go to single block terminals behind the fuse panel and one goes to relay socket M5. :( What I do know is that there is no problem with the wires coming outof the control module, so I can only conclude there is a problem with those two wires wherever theyre going. And what the hell is a 'current track' ???????? Can anyone help? cheers

Hi all I have a vexing problem with the seat that is driving me crazy!! Its not on a Corrado but a MK3 Golf Cabrio Basically the seat back falls backward with the slightest bit of pressure and I can't figure out which part has gone. I have had the hinge mech apart and replaced the rotating knob (the it used to adjust the backrest), but the seat back doesn't lock into position. Its a scary state of affairs for passengers when they shoot backward on acceleration. Probably highly dangerous too! Anyone had any experience of this or got any ideas? I suppose I should post this on the Golf forum too. Cheers
-
Hi, In this heat I was wondering if anyone knew how to automatically open all windows with a turn of a key in the doorlock?
-
There's nothing wrong with white cars! Apologies...Corrados are excluded of course :)

Get a master reset done at the clifford dealer or buy as cliffnet wizard to diagnose yourself

I don't think 110 is too high - mine has hit those temps regularly over the last few years without disaster.

Looks quite good in white  never thought I'd ever like a white car. Apparently the 'cool' lifestyle thing to have is an estate car, or should I say 'touring'. The 4x4 has been rejected now by the Chelsea set and theyre buying powerful estates instead :?

yep, my money's on the cam sensor, but could be the blue coolant sensor . I would agree that replacing the fuel filter is a worthwhile, easy thing to do
