    Keep an eye on this thread mate - I will be posting up accurate compression figures tonight. I am struggling to find a garage to do a leakdown test - they all want to do compression tests!!! MUPPETS!! :mad:

    You need to definately check that the valve guides HAVE been replaced - talking to some garages and believe it or not it is not standard procedure! - So when you ask for that head work you need to ask what they are doing... some just de-coke, lap in the valves and skim the head which I personally think is a joke.... If you were told by the garage your bores were fine and you have the compression and leakdown tests done and it proves the bottom end is at fault I would be going to have a little chat at the garage!!! :mad: This is why I am a little iffy about doing the head on my VR6 (due to start this weekend but been put off for two weeks due to racing in BRCA championships :lol: ) and is why I am first getting compression / leakdown tests done first..... especially since I have never suffered from the smoke haze of a cold start - is ALWAYS on over run.... NEVER smokes at any other time.... If it is bore wear then I shall sell it ! :shock: Scott. PS. Doing compression tests tonight....

  6. Its nigh on impossible unless you are EXTREMELY FLEXIBLE... I did it the hard way and it is a dashboard out job - it is not hard but lots of patience required....

  8. I have seen a few rims like that with stretched tyres and I think it looks pretty cool but you do run the risk of marking the wheel easily....
  9. Mine does the same mate - you will need a cylinder head overhaul after confirming the bores are ok by a compression test and leak down test. Stealth will do the job for £1300 + VAT. You will gradually notice that the car will smoke on overrun when it is hot.... I am doing mine next weekend with any luck :roll:

    Yup agreed - my old 16V had creases in rear panels and the assesor took one look at it and said write off. :cry:
  21. I have seen up to 39mpg on the trip driving a steady 50-55 ish on the A49 to my parents barely touching the throttle. I get a constant 33-34mpg at 80-85mph.. Around town I get high 20's... 26 - 29mpg... When I am driving 'normally' I change up gear at between 2500 - 3000 rpm so might explain why the VR is pretty good on fuel as none of the real power starts coming in till about 3500rpm.... Scott.

  23. Trouble is the alignment tool is only ever good if replacing the chains without upsetting the cams? My cams will need to come out.... so not sure I need it?
