Ive raced one from standing start and left it for dead once hit 30 - 35mph.... but like Kev says if were both doing 70 - 80mph and booted it - it would be close but I would say the VR would pull ahead.... the Golf has to work harder as its a heavier car and not too mention has the aerodynamics of a large caravan

Rusty internal water ways ..... not a good sign. Caused by not using adequate anti freeze content / and / or not changed frequently enough - change every 12 months with 50 / 50 anti freeze / water mix and G11 OR G12 plus. Can lead to Head Gasket failure.... so leave it. Scott.

Yup 100% agreed - just done mine myself..... I got mine for £54 from VW... and its different design so shouldnt fail like original one does...

Most of the problems have been down to accidents therefore you cannot blame the car.... The other faults are simply the symptoms of buying a 13yr old car.... Stick with it - I had a few problems with my old 16V for the first year I had it then it sailed through the next THREE MOT's without a problem and was mega reliable.... People forget when buying an older car such as the Corrado that there will simply be some work needed doing and to budget for it.... or take it out of amount of cash you have to spend on car. Replacing the brake lines and the ball joint is easy enough although mucho swearing will result from doing the brake lines yourself!!! Grab a Haynes manual that covers the 16V MK2 Golf and get stuck in :D - should cost you about £50 then for parts.

Only if nobody else bids in the auction. :? roflmao  lol - its not for auction!!! - Its straight from DVLA at FIXED price :-P

Thats pretty much what I do.... I have an old Escort Diesel that gets me around and too and from work, does 55mpg, costs absolutely pennies to run and maintain and thats with me being anal about maintenance :D - so I save a fortune in maintenance / fuel with the VR6 and she also gets to stick her feet up in her nice warm garage during the week :)
-
Yeah you get bored too as nothing to fix :-P

Was going to say... there is no way a standard CTR can do a 14.2 sec quarter..... I stick to my guns - Ive beat a CTR on the road and I would beat one on the quarter mile (standard).... VR6 does a quarter in 14.9 secs. Scott.

Ball park ...... Six grand.

Only among biggoted and narrow minded individuals. Only Poseurs overly concern themselves with what kind of image their car portrays. Serious drivers care more about what the car can do and the satisfaction it gives. - Couldnt have said that better myself Kev... people dont understand why I paid so much for technically a 'ten year old car'... I dont buy it for the registration plate I bought it for the driver satisfaction!!!!

Mmmm - well my VR raced one from standing start to 1**mph and the Corrado was about half a car length ahead until hit 60mph or so then I pulled away briskly (pulled about 5 to 10 car lengths before slowing down).... then he shot past as I slowed down at over 1**mph....

It certainly will be ......... :(

I had a mate stick a SAAB Turbo on a Sierra 2.0 8V Pinto..... made around 170bhp and went like the clappers - smoked a bit too mind you :D :)

I definately need a heatshield for the RAMAIR before summer else I will be taking it off!!! :( mailto:[email protected] please!!! 8)
-
Yup CAT Heatshield guarnteed..... dont bother welding it as it will only break again... get yourself a jubilee clip and tighten it up round it like said above. DONT REMOVE IT!!! - There has been some coverage about people removing them and finding in summer when parked on grass the heat from the CAT can light the grass up! Its there for a reason!!!

A Word of caution with windscreen replacement on Corrado. They should replace the seals with the windscreen but its not likely they will bother as most will have to source them once they have turned up to fit a new screen. On my old 16V the screen was damaged due to road salt whilst the other half was driving it - she took some time off work so that the windscreen people could fit a new one. Anyway the Autoshield guys phoned said other half up 2 hrs later to say its done but the car couldnt be moved for a few hours whilst the sealant was drying. Fine she said. She collected the car to find masking tape holding the outer seal down as they had used the original seal and it wouldnt go back into place - they had used black silicone to glue the edges down and it looked terrible. Washed the Corrado down still fuming (2 / 3 days later and my complaint to headquarters being dealt with) to find water pouring into the car!!! So they came and out and re sealed it all up but still not doing anything about the seal - so I questioned it... they dont replace them they say. Insurers say so!! - and also that the fact bonded screens are hard to replace!!! - If they cant do the job then they shouldnt be saying they can!!! Two weeks later - another broken screen (dont ask!) - and this time I made sure I was about to deal with these muppets and stated in clear tones about my concerns and that I wanted new seals..... it was a different pair of guys this time and I showed him the bodges done. The guy was disgusted and promised to do a decent job this time and true to his word he did! But what I am saying is - is that if you need a new windscreen be careful who does it and be around whilst they are fitting it. Make sure they fit new seals too. And make sure they dont damage any interior trim - especially the A post covers!!! My VR is on the original windscreen so far but has lots of horrible scratches on it - anyone know if they can be polished out??? Cheers Scott

If you have air in the diesel lines then it hasnt been bleed properly. Perhaps when a fuel filter change was done or like you say its possibly lost pressurisation although if it has you have to query why. I would say it just hasnt been bleed properly - so bleed it throughly and see how you get on. My diesel does same thing if I dont bleed the fuel system properly after changing the filter.....

I used BP Ultimate last weekend and notice straight away that my VR didnt pull or tick over as nice as she usually does (always use Optimax) so was very dissapointed  Will stick with Shell as always found their fuel to be good! - Optimax rocks!
