    Wet Carpet!

Yep, but break it first so you only have to pay the £50 excess, otherwise Autoglass or whoever will charge you the full whack, which is gonna smart a bit, gotta be around £200? Personally I'd remove the plastic trims yourself instead of the fitter yanking them off gung-ho fashion and busting the clips. And then reiterate that a high standard of fitting is critical, otherwise it'll leak. K Try £470 Kev... thats what is on invoice for my old Corrado.... *:) Scott

    Heater Matrix

Hello People, Am going ahead and ripping my heater matrix out with a friend of mine this weekend so has anyone got any pointers for me? I’ve never done before so anything I should be aware of before I start apart from the fact it will be a pig of a job * Cheers Scott

    Wet Carpet!

It doesnt necessarily have to be colourful - my matrix is definately leaking and yet is no specific colour but the water does feel greasy which gives the game away.... smells like anti freeze too
  4. worth doing on the VR then seeing as mine is a '93 *;)
  5. Plug in VAGCOM and the software should tell you your VR6 is idling at 680rpm.... Ive been told by a few people that if the rev counter needle is not moving when the car is idling then you dont have a problem - if it is moving about then you need to take a look at it. I was always complaining to my mate about my idle as I had just traded up from a 16V Corrado and it felt really lumpy on tick over compared to my valver that was always sillky smooth on idle to the point I had to check the rev counter to see if it was still running  - I then compared it to my mates 70k miles Storm (Showroom condition) and found that both cars were exactly the same .... got used to it now and I put it down to the fact its such a powerful engine :D Look at the skylines for instance - totally over engineered yet Ive listened to a few and they 'burble' on idle and you can feel the engine idling lumpy *:) Scott
  6. Ive been looking into sorting the speakers out in my VR - I have a high quality Pioneer CD Player with 4 * 60 watt output and the speakers are pants *:) Im hoping a set of focal components will go in the front nicely 8)
  7. Interesting *:) - perhaps the bulb just needs a clean then to restore full brightness!!! Im based towards North Manchester... Kearsley. Cheers Scott
  8. any ideas how to change the heater control bulbs Kev? - Ive noticed mine have blown except for the centre one :(

    Over heating VR

Fans do not come on at 90 degrees.... the first one comes on at circa 100deg and the second one at 110deg - this is why when you do hit 110deg it comes down pretty fast. From what you say I dont think you have a problem mine hits 110deg when stuck in traffic and usually sits at 95-100deg round town and 90deg on motorway... had my VR 18 months now and its been fine. As long as the light does come on and flash/beep then I really wouldnt worry about it. Scott
  10. Pretty sure this isnt rain water Kev and the water is defo greasy so has to be matrix...........
  11. Well this is G11 ......... Nope none of the above.... just greasy water on passenger side footwells, losing water from coolant system (never used a drop in 1 yr previously) .... I only noticed when the windows steamed up when left for a couple of hours after using it. Scott
  12. Awkward is better than dash out job *:)
  13. Yes thats what a few people have just mentioned - I honestly didnt know that.... I reckon heater matrix has split too so its time for a new one - So: whats damage for new one? where? and is it going to be a sod to get out>? *:)
  14. mines one of the 10% then thats fully operational *:)
  15. Hello People! Got a problem and would appreciate any feedback as usual! * Just got off the phone to the missus who has the VR6 in London at the moment and she has found the passenger side foot well wet – she describes the wetness as greasy water….. and for the first time ever she (the VR!!) has started started losing water hence and wondering if they are connected. I am thinking along the lines of heater matrix – but why the greasy water? Anyone done a matrix change? Is it hard? Can I check the matrix is definitely leaking in some way? Cheers Scott
  16. Mmmmmmmmm - dont you mean the timing chain? :D
  17. I agree - am doing this job myself very soon and will be replacing the guides, tappets, top chain tensioner, etc as a matter of course.... local specialist quoted me £700 to do the job..... seems heavy to me considering I can get the head work done and all parts for £250 approx.... Scott
  18. 155mph on my nans private race track (just for VR6)  Hit 145mph easily enough but took a while to get to 155mph... then I run out of balls even though it was 4am in the morning .........
  19. Thats a write off in the insurance eyes although there is no reason why you couldnt source the work to a decent bodyshop.... reckon on just under £1k worth of damage there.... insurance people will easily double that and 16V 1.8's can be had for under £2k now I believe? Scott

    Yoko Tyres

Im running Yoko AVS Sports on my VR6 which havent been out long and I can say they are simply awesome tyres *:) Ive yet to try better. Scott
  21. I agree - the VR gets better the more you drive it.....
  22. Whats expensive about owning a VR exactly? - Mines cost me buttons compared to my old 16V..... But agree with your points about the 1.8 16V - is a cracker engine and cheap to maintain - good on fuel (40mpg + poss - I had 43mpg from mine once or twice)... but finding a good one will be hard as they are now bargain basement cars therefore the 'boy racer' brigade have got hold of most of them....
