Replaced the chain tensioner and cams last night.
Scott replied to PhatVR6's topic in Suppliers Forum
I dread to think of the state of my chains and tensioners then at 111k miles now...... I can hear the tensioner for a split second from cold start in morning but after that its nice and quiet... so not sure I have anything to worry about although I am aware the valve guides need replacing. Cheers Scott -
Spot on Kev - I take the VR once a week to work as a treat and I rarely get above 60 or below 40mph and I return circa 35-36mpg with ease....
-
No butts - make sure the bearing is pressed in properly with a hydraulic press.... I had a mate with a celica who did the front bearing himself - looking pretty chuffed with himself he was miffed when car sounded worse with new bearing than with old one in so I took a look at it.... I asked him how he put the new bearing in and he pointed out a large socket from a socket set and a large hammer.....

Do the matrix yourself like me and save 300 notes  8) - You can go and ask VW for a print out of when car was last serviced by them - this will list if the necessary recalls have been done....

Been a member for 3yrs now and every year it saves me a fortune and every meet I have been do has been a laugh with like minded people 8) :D

Ive seen 520 miles with the VR on a full tank but usually get around 400 - 450..... Pipe and Slippers Steve? - lol  - am only 27!!!

My old valver was dark burgundy pearl (correct naming of colour) or LC3U - gorgeous colour in the sun but got fed up with people asking if it was black  It also had a black interior Alex.... Scott

I have checked that as like you say it is easy to do. Im pretty sure both of the covers are on the runners ..... Am annoyed cos going out in the VR tonight for a drive to pick a mate up and the seats moving driving me nuts! But yeah will take them out in morning 8)

Finished installing heater matrix last week and actually got a chance to drive the VR6 today for first time in two weeks :D Quick  lol Anyway I had to take the front seats out for matrix and although am pretty sure they are in place they now seem to rock very slightly when braking and accelerating - they didnt do this before!!! Any pointers? - have had a quick look in dark and it seems to be rear of seat towards the doors on both side that seems to have some movement.... Have I forgetten to put something back in place? Cheers Scott

Cheap it may be but it is a swine of a job to do

How much cr*p do you have in that room

Yeah agreed - wouldnt bother with hassles of skimming unless expensive discs...... GSF did me Pagid drilled discs and pads for front for 100 notes all in.

Get a VR6 - faster and better on juice
-
Sealed it up properly? Its a brand new matrix it wont need sealing up - lol

That's just plain silly! It's not even decent quality glass either, mine's covered in scratches and swirl marks......but, AFAIK, it is still the original one. K Tell me about it - had the screen replaced 3 times on old Corrado 16V due to stones hitting screen in winter - one went in 3 weeks !!!! I have the original on the VR6 and like yours is covered in scratches and swirl marks. The heater matrix is now done :D - Its one job I will NEVER be doing again - 8hrs in total!
-
LOL - it has now  It looks like it done 60k but in fact shows 110k on the clock (or did) lol
-
I know - thats my worry  Ah well - can always get it corrected I believe - about 60k should do it

I'll second that - after 17 years in the motor trade - Meguiars Gold Class is the best that I've ever seen.. And I'll third it.... I used the Meguiars 3 stage system when I first bought the VR .... I now use Gold Class every 3-4 months and everyone comments on the shine.... even when I have washed and chamoised it down it looks like I have spent hours polishing it - even after six months.... If you havent tried Meguiars then get some NOW and make sure you buy the magic soft cloth

C has cable shift as standard - most have a little play but alot of play usually means cables require adjustment........
-
Mines currently at 110k..... just taken clocks out of car for heater matrix job and am praying they dont reset to zero when I put them back in tomm
-
LOL - looks worst that what the job was - found it easy enough. Worst thing is that I was a little heavy handed with glovebox and have snapped one of the brackets but otherwise straight forward. Scott
-
Now I had best put it all back together dont you?
-
Oh and your matrix can still be faulty if you still have heating *:) My heating system is fine but the matrix is seeping coolant....... its all coming out tomm
