The trouble is mate most Corrados can look nice with a bit of a spit and polish - but its only by looking under the surface that you start to see the sheds.... hence you need look VERY carefully.... I think you should again find another car..... Any Corrado that requires TLC simply hasnt been looked after properly.... they are built very well.... for £2k ish you should be able to pick up a mint J plate 1.8 16V with sensible miles and a FSH....
-
Well Chris Knott has come through for me time and time again.... usually £200 cheaper than nearest competitor
-
Am looking for a VR6 for my mate and both the ones on Ebay we are going to avoid for various reasons..... no history on one and broken roof on other...
-
Either way there are much better examples to be had (avoid red, white or yellow) for less money - you just need to look hard and take your time (be patient - the right car will come up - I took 4 month to find mine).... also avoid early F / G reg's with dismal wind up windows, etc....
-
Right my 2p.... First noisy tappets is normal on a 1.8 16V as long as dissapears within 20- 30 secs.... if still noisy then you have worn lifters / tappets.... at 145k I would ask if the head has been off yet as most require a rebuild at around 100 - 110k miles..... 1.8 16V engine is slow up to around 3500rpm before it gets into its stride then takes off pretty quickly - it certainly shouldnt feel slow then.... on a engine with that mileage I would insist that I could compression test it to check the bottom end is in good nick... Rust at top of screen means windscreen has been replaced and by the sounds of it not a good job either.... Oil drip on front wheel sounds like leaking CV boot? - Owner was aware of it and tried to hide it so would be cautious as hell! Revs dropping down slowly is either a sticky throttle cable or a worn fuel regulator... If belt screeching on full lock either belt not adjusted properly (if its been changed then likely!) or the pump is worn.... given mileage I would say look at the pump... From what you have told me I'd walk away quickly....
-
I wouldnt put fully snth 0w Mobile one in a 16V VAG engine - it wears the oil pumps am told as under higher strain.... Kev: the car has been looked after very well - was a one previously owned car when I bought it and had service history to back up mileage as well as old MOT's, etc.... but 100k does seem about the norm... I will be doing the head job myself on the VR6 - but only when I have the cash to do everything on the cylinder head which doing the work myself and getting the engineering shop to do the skimming, etc will set me back around £300.... Cheers Scott

Anything over a 100mph and the VR walks over alot of machinery! *;)

LOL    Indeed it is awesome 8)
-
Well its been proven Cars out handle bikes  8) But I was driving flat out and the biker was leaning right over *:) LOL
-
Can only seem to find grill badges..... not rear panel badges and the VW emblems.... I basically want to replace ALL the badges on my Corrado..........

Just been messing with a BMW motorcycle this afternoon.... came to the front of a dual carriageway with a set of traffic lights and I opened the VR up and this Motorcycle started more or less level with me then looked at me to say - no chance mate..and booted it.... started leaving me behind quickly.... Anyway as went up dual carriageway (following the bike) I had to take off on bypass that is a high speed corner that goes on for quite a bit (I'd say 3/4 mile) then a short straight.... the bike went in the same direction and slowed down for the corner (As bikes do) - not me... I went barrelling into it at 110 - 120mph... held the line all the way round - over took the bike on the INSIDE of the corner .... clipped the apex and banged it into fifth at 125mph once I hit the straight part and accelerated up to 145mph before slowing down to come on to the motorway - when I slowed down the biker pulled up along side (he had dropped right back) and gave me the thumbs up.... :D :D Goes to show my 8yr old VR6 with standard suspension still handles extremely well   I was chuffed

Anyone got the details / website for GPC? Im after chrome badges for VR6... plus VW emblems....
-
The Corrado steering is indeed progressive - that is it gets heavier as you increase your speed.... If you cannot turn the PAS when stationary then yes I would say you have a problem.... I have driven hundreds of cars and would describe the steering on a Corrado (PAS) as to be heavier than most PAS cars.... but is still relatively easy to steer.... I can use one hand to park, etc.. Thats pretty much what I said then *:) I'd take a G60 ober the 16v *;)
-
One thing will tell you is that when I was phoning around for quotes the cheapest quotes I was getting was for the 1.8 16V..... Followed by the G60... then the 2.0 16V and then the VR6... So Im pretty sure age has something to do with the quotes!!!.... But now Im only paying £700 fully comp on my VR6 8)

As long as it has a folder of reciepts and a FSH (by specialist or main dealer) then should be fine.
-
Where its situated and due to water coming out of it then it has to be there for some kind of external water pump... like mentioned....
-
Not too bad thanks mate - my motor got alot of attention from the crowd when the bonnet was opened :D - must have been the RAM AIR me thinks.... blatted past one of the lads on the M56 on way down and when he pulled up he said 'what the heck was that when you went past!'  heh heh.... But yeah it was good to put both clubs side by side but there was no where near enough room like you said!! Also got fed up of drying the car down in the morning... I gave up until the sun came out  :D Scott

It would only apply to colours that are non lacquered ..... mainly solid colours only.... 3M is awesome stuff - used to use it alot when was in the trade... get it from paint factors.
-
Best add an ignition switch to the stuff you bought *;) Scott.
-
You should only ever use VW specified fluid in the power steering.... so no that red transmission fluid is bad news...
-
And also how busy the guy is ..........
-
Sounds like top end rather than bottom... Head off & new valve stem oil seals and guides??? See scott's thread(s) about his smoking habit :D :D Cheeky git *;) You have a valve guide problem there mate.... whip the head off and get it re con'd .... nowt wrong with bottom end!
