With RCs. Yes I am a tart! -
Alarm confusion... any fitters in Devon area?
MoonlightVR replied to kangaroo's topic in ICE 'n' Secure
Fair enough, but I was told by several sources a few years back that it was no longer approved. As I said, given it's age I threw caution to the wind. Better safe than sorry. -

Kangarooboy The alarm you are referring to is the original fit item by VW when the car was new. It was made by Scorpion. I'm 99% sure that it is no longer Cat1 approved. Given that it's probably the car's original alarm/immob it's probably best you replace it, as it will fail at some point! There's loads on the market to choose from depending on how many features you want. I replaced my VW original with a Sigma M30. A basic no nonsense Cat 1 device that has a good rep for reliablity and no false alarms - more important for me than remote start, headlight activation etc -
Mate, it's well and truly your choice to do whatever you want on YOUR car!! A mate of mine had a tyre blow out on him on a fast-ish A-road corner causing him to lose the back end and stack his near show standard car into a hedge. It was down to the severe stretch he had on his euro styled tyres/wheels!!
-
And you can't argue with that - definitely each to their own. But mate, really watch that stretch on the tyre. The side wall is so distorted that you'll end up compromising it's strength in potholes etc. You're actually going to be running a lower profile than 35, because the sidewall is no longer vertical to the rim, so no longer at it's correct height. It's also quite possible you'll get a sudden blow out at speed/during cornering as the sidewall is so far away from the seating point on the wheel. You sure about this?
-
Pretty sure the VR has an electronic speedo, so it may need a new speedo head. If this is the case you'll probably better off getting the whole dial cluster from a car that is being broken. Usually go for around 70-100 quid.
-
Blimey! Production of Corrado ended in July 1995!!
-
Not holding back are you Lee?! You sticking with the original colour then?
-
Really depends on the bodyshop you take it to, colour etc. Welding up the wiper hole is tricky as it is v close to the glass. Some bodyshops will insist on taoking the glass out just in case they crack it. Best to get quotes from 2-3 half decent/recommended workshops for the job and then take it from there.
-
As the guys above have been saying, Optimax is the best fuel for the VR6, or any Corrado for that matter. Like rocket fuel, only more expensive
-
A fair amount of the car Lee, due to the mods.
-
I've also removed the rear wiper and had the hole plated by a bodyshop. Had the roof aerial and tow eye in the bumper removed at the same time. IMO definitely makes the back look alot smoother. Apply some Rain X to the glass and it stays water free very easily :)
-
Me too, I think the black centres on the silver car look good.
-
Been mowing the lawn Gareth? Looking lovely matey.
-
Good to meet you guys, albeit briefly  See you at the next one. Dan, you shouldn't have any problems selling your G60, it's lovely :)
-
Sure thing mate. Not many cars can comprehensively losea C VR, but this one did. It was quite shocking! It must have had 300+ bhp! But no class
-
You're probably right mate, but it would still be reasonably close. Unlike the Celica GT Turbo Jap crap that totally destroyed me last week  Had a mentally loud dump valve! He didn't have the noise all to himself though, VR's with K&Ns are VERY LOUD
-
But aren't you the chap with a standard VR producing 212bhp though? Standard VRs giving standard power won't worry an R32 too much. Fair point! But I don't think the diffence between a R32 and a standard C VR will be that great would it? Ceratinly will make the driver of the new R32 raise their eyebrow at the performance of the 10 odd year old vintage VW :D
-
The 5.25" Focal components are superb guys - very highly recommended. They come with crossovers.
-
IMO a well tuned, say 200 odd bhp G60 will trouble a VR6 pretty comprehensively, unless you're doing over 120mph (on the track of course  ) where the 2.9 is really singing! I've duelled with several standard R32s and they can't get past my VR :D Just ask Guy Hartley, he was driving his standard R32 at the time :D His is throwing out 300+bhp now so I think I'll be letting him past  In my experience the performance of my C and the R32 is pretty much identical, so if your G60 is genuinely pumping out as much as you claim you'll see off the R32. Whether it will in the upper rev ranges or not I'm not sure as these VR derivatives tend to be very strong top end unlike forced induction.

They are Kev. Were an option I think on Passat's, seen them come up on german eBay a few times now. 5 stud Estorils were fitted to the early Passat VR6 (grille-less front Passat model). The Campaign alloys are Monte Carlo's - also fitted to the early (L/M reg) Mk3 Golf 16V
-
As Storm says it's definitely worth getting a professional opinion on what the cause is - it could be a major repair or as you say a service error, best to be sure I say?

If you like it and it's enjoyable to drive/own and a reasonable price, buy it! It's certainly a rare car ideal for an enthusiast. As long as it checks out okay and is not priced too highly you can't really go wrong mate. Go for it and enjoy! -
Speed camera detectors - possible GROUP BUY?
MoonlightVR replied to MoonlightVR's topic in General Car Chat
Ok Phil, we'll see how things develop. I guess opening this up to others forums would be ideal to drum up more interest but to be honest it's a lot of hassle, and like I've said I'm only offering it because I asked opportunistically - thought other C owners might like one too since we need clean licences with the amount insurance companies charge us  . I've already got mine mate, so there's only so much hassle I'm prepared to go through!
