  1. Cheers Andy! Didn't realise that was were you kids drained the coolant from, I'll be creating a how not to guide very shortly! I make so much mess when I play with fluids, I should really leave the engine bay to the professionals
  2. ha ha true I was a bit concerned that the old header tank was covered in a yellow/orange deposit but after filling it up and blocking off the pipes I could see there was a crack in the tank. I don't think my heater matrix was gone after all that. Bring it on MOT inspector!
  3. Henny, yup that's be the one... my bad, I thought it was, just too dark to check the level of the power steering fluid and I was too tired to botherchecking where all the pipes go - numpty Thanks for the help, I take it I can just top it up with VW stuff, or is there a special VR6 only formula? Is there a way of breaking this stupid clip on the bottom rad hose? Can't remove it for the life of me, surely someone has had to deal with a seized one of these?
  4. I think it is power steering fluid, I don't think it is coolant, because I have filled it with water only, ready to start flushing the system and only a couple 100 ml of this yellow/green stuff came out. I'm still not 100% sure though. I'll just check where the pipes go when it is light enough, yes I was working in the dark, school boy
  5. Hi Guys A bit embarrased asking this, just looking through the whole cooling system and got a bit tired blah blah, just replaced the header tank and a couple of pipes and was looking for the lowest pipe on the radiator to drain out the coolant. I knew this pipe was to small to be a coolant pipe but I removed it anyway - light yellow/green fluid came out. I don't know what pipe would be needing to go to the front of the car, just under the radiator unless it was an oil cooler. However I am thinking it is the power steering fluid - just don't understand why it is going to the radiator area... I know, I know What happened was, the hose clip on what I knew was the lowest coolant pipe has seized (it's one of the stupid clips with a screw) so I went looking for another pipe... How do I remove a seized clip/clamp? I've soaked it in WD40, tried various screw drivers and strange devices hooked up to a wrench, also borrowed a 9/32 socket piece from a neighbour which still didn't work. Ah the joys
  6. Thanks guys, same houlry rates and discounts are very interesting. BMW hourly rates are from £68 (Scotland) - £200+ (London). Just found out there first ever car in 1900 was electric and 100 years on all electric cars still suck!
  7. Hi All I have an interview on Wednesday with Porsche GB in Reading. I currently work for BMW in Bracknell. Finding it hard to get company info from the Porsche website so hoping to pick your brains. Does anyone know how many dealerships there are in the UK? If they do any special discounts on servicing? - BMW do 10% off on cars >4 years old Any interesting aftersales products - equivalent to Alpina, AC Schnitzer etc? Any new models coming out soon? Thank you very much for any help, I don't really know much about Porsche, other than I like the 997 and 993 shape 911's... Neil
  8. Jay - who's car have you rolled? It's not the one I bought is it lol would explain some of the marks on the roof
  9. okay I still really need a set of perfect speedlines (new/refurbed condition). This isn't mint, Phil, if your mates are better I might still be interested. These are still a good price however.
  10. Oh, that'd be about 160-170 bhp tops surely? I don't want to turn this into a performance debate but most 0-60 times at 5 seconds are done with over 300 bhp for anything over 1200 kg's but they also have an extra passenger or two in the car with some luggage and extra half a tank. Were you on a rolling start? 17's will make the car accelerate slower also. I remember when Hugo (biggerbighugo) had a 1.3 mk2 golf and we used to use a stop watch when we were 17 and get figures of 7 seconds - when it should be about 13 lol We still got beaten by 10 second cars though so our stop watch skills were pretty bad obviously. Anywhoo, that car looks mint!
  11. Wow that's mint! What's been done to the engine to get those 0-60 sprint figures? Did you buy it back for the same as you sold it for? I want my old one back too :-(
  12. Oh fook you Radford, I'm going to get one, you pushed the decision - not that you had to What year is your Dad's TVR and do you know what he's had to replace on it other than the fuel line?
  13. what else has a V8 in for around £10k then lol "Yes bits of trim will fall off occasionally but all can be fixed with a bit of contact adhesive. " Genious! I'll use that when selling it back on again Buyer - I'm sorry your door just fell off Me - Oh don't worry, you just need to keep some glue with you in the car for when that sort of thing happens
  14. kevHaywire, http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/to ... 42&f=8&h=0 Here's the link, can't be 100% sure it's correct but sounds convincing enough Quite random really Kick Up The R's Thanks for the post 94 tip, very helpful, was just looking at a 93 one
  15. Thought it might be fun to get one of these for a few weeks in the summer - car shows, drive to France etc Looking on a few forums to find out what sort of stuff goes wrong so I can try and buy and sell without any expenditure: - fuel pipe goes over engine and exhaust manifold, can catch on fire electrics go so you can't open the doors... brakes are from a sierra - seize header tank is from a mk2 golf - fails alot I think the 4.0l is the best bet and seem to be the most reliable Anyone know of any other good pointers?
  16. Hey Sam, how's it going? Got the body work looking pretty smart, will post some more pics up next week, after some good speedlines to help with the looks. Which top mounts did you think were knackered? I'll have a look at the weekend. I think the current tyres haven't been balanced properley and the tracking is out causing the ride problems. Do you know if the drivers seat is height adjustable? Does the post on the engine above on Mon Jun 12, 2006 4:27 pm sound correct to what has been done to the engine? If so that must have cost a fair amount of time and money! Not really sure about the exhaust, need to get it through the MOT and then I'll decide what to do, I'd like to keep it all original as there aren't many left on original brakes, shocks, alloys with no engine upgrades. Neil
  17. Hi Phil, sorry thought this was your mate, my bad, I'd like a set that need nothing doing to them so if this set is mint I'll take them, thanks for looking for me Phil, much appreciated
  18. You Know Your Rado's Really Feked When......... You have taken the dash out, unplugged everything without labeling and put all the different screws in the same box and can't remember what goes where lol or You get over 50 mph and the car bounces up and down as if it had square wheels...
  19. Just did a bit of research as bought the car off Samm_cvr6, top bloke, who was very friendly to deal with. He looks like he has spent a £%$^ load on this car looking at his previous posts: - Rattly engine 2004/04 Engine blows up 2004/10 Engine rebuild including new cams, timing belt, chains (yes I know there should just be chains...) £1515 - I have a receipt for a recon engine and new crank in the folder 2004/10 New cylinder head 2005/04 Replaced valve seals, stretch bolts, gaskets and guides 2005/09 After this there are posts about poor running and ABS problems Surely everything mechanical has now been replaced in the engine and it's elecrtical/software issues? I'll get it vag-com'd and maybe get it on the rollers http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewto ... highlight= http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewto ... highlight=
  20. Thanks very much for the offer, thats very kind, I can get close to that price with wicked wheels, I may even have a go at doing a set myself
  21. Very nice! Thats the nicest Scooby I've seen! Looks very cool from the front. Get some BBS's on there! VW up that Scooby Doo!
  22. Cheers Phil, I would definitely take them off his hands if they are in very good condition with tyres. Where is cheap for refurbing 1 piece alloys? just in case I get my current ones done. Wicked wheels, Pristine and the other places that do splits want £200 to do a set. I paid that for my old Corrado but don't really want to spend that again.
  23. Cheers Phil, will check out the Phirm, was actually thinking about trying them. There is a Blue Mk2 Golf gti, 4 door that I see every day going to Bracknell with "The Phirm" written on the back window, looks very nice! It was uncomfortably hot working in the heat and polishing a car is a nightmare in the sun, had no other time to do it though. I am interested in the Speedlines! I was looking at paying about that if they come with decent tyres (good tread also) and the alloys are pretty much spotless. There are a fair few sets of Solitudes on ebay advertised as mk3 GTI alloys, but I prefer the speedlines. If your mate has any pics that would be cool
