  1. Fair dos Jim, thanks for the warning, I'll get suitably protected! lol
  2. I found the complete assy only, not just the glass on their site - https://www.vwheritage.com/vw_parts_Exterior-Mirrors_act_page.render_pageID_1813.htm
  3. Out of interest how easy (or not!) is it to change this rear mount? The front one was done when I bought the car but the P/O gave me the rear one in a box saying he hadn't had time to fit it. I'm assuming that's because it's not easy to get to?
  4. Hi Chris - The Mk1 is stagnant right now! :( I had a great run on it early this year through to May, got most of the offisde welding done (which was the bulk of it) but then redundancy and setting up a new business means I've had no time to touch it since sadly. It will get finished, I just don't know when! lol
  5. It wasn't quite our first port of call, as got to a point of thinking it was a vacuum leak, but we soon got on to it. I've had it on a car before - changed a temp switch in a radiator and it quickly failed but spent too long assuming that it wasn't the issue as I had just replaced it! Fingers crossed it sorts me out tomorrow when I fit the next new one ;)
  6. Well after a lot of digging around it looks like it may be something simple. No signs of a vacuum leak, good spark although discovered that the cam cover is leaking a bit of oil down the plug bores, but whilst the car was idling badly, the mechanic disconnected the plug to the white, 2-pin temp. sender and it now runs perfectly! I only replaced this and the other temp sender a couple of weeks ago, I'm wondering if this white one is duff? I've got a replacement coming out tomorrow so guess it must be this, or whatever it's connected to? All theorys are welcome!!
  7. Will do. Am I right in saying it's connected in to the cat'? I seem to recall reading that on here when searching for info on how to change one.
  8. I have seen gears attached to the motor shaft with grub screws before - not too common but if it was you'd see it. As mentioned, just PULL!! lol
  9. unlucky with your MKII Jim, 8 hours is a looong haul, I didn't have that fortunately.
  10. Excellent info, thanks chaps! ;)
  11. Thanks for the feedback chaps - yes it is a 2.0 16v. Funnily enough when I scanned OBD the other day I got error code 00525, which is 'O2 sensor voltage low - G39' so I did wonder about the lambda. The mechanic who saw it briefly last night didn't think that would cause what happened when I mentioned it. It's going on the ramp any time now so fingers crossed it's an easy fix. I'll update once I know more ;)
  12. Welcome to the forum TPT. That looks a very nice G60 ;)
  13. Thanks for the info. I take it if I do happen to break the plastic backing, a new mirror glass will have that on it?
  14. Sounds a nice way of refurbing wheels!
  15. Got a lift home tonight!! lol First time I've had to do this in over 25 years of driving which I guess should make me a little happier! Anyway, driving along today I suddenly started to lose power to the point I could barely pull away from some traffic lights, and duly pulled over. The car still starts ok, idle is a little eratic/low. The main issue is you press the accelerator and revs are very slow and reluctant to climb up and wont go much over 3k typically. Recently I've done the following; -New dizzy cap and rotor arm -Checked and re-gapped plugs -Cleaned and checked ISV -Cleaned and re-set metering head flap -Replaced fuel filter -Checked vac hoses for leaks -Oil & filter change -Air filter change -Replaced both temp senders on the block All of the above was done about a week or two ago and the car has been running well - with MPG going from about 26 upto 33 now :) Nothing seems/appears drastically wrong with the car, i.e. no signs of head gasket, oil and water all ok. I broke down in Leicester near to a friends garage so it's there overnight and we'll take a look at it tomorrow with his mechanics. However, any opinions are welcome on what the problem could be would be welcome! Thanks in advance ;) Cheers Andy
  16. Having had a pretty crap day with much going wrong, including this; (Separate thread to follow) ..and this not being the first or last problem of the day, I got back to my unit late this evening to find this in an envelope! Thanks Mic, that cheered me up no end!! - and yes it has been eaten already! Thanks again ;)
  17. Do we have them?? I had the rear window heater on the other morning and the nearside mirror appeared to demist itself but the drivers didn't. If C's do have them and they've stopped working, is it a case of replacing the mirror glass or something else?
  18. I bet you can't wait to get behind the wheel again!
  19. Oooo pics when you get them please :)
  20. No worries Clumpy, thanks for getting back to me. I'll get pics up once sorted ;)
  21. Hi Fowler and welcome to the forum ;) I'm new here too so probably the last person to offer advice on the C (I've noticed so far everyone here calls the Corrado that! lol) but can confirm that this is a great forum, very friendly and helpful. I can also say that I've got a MK2 Golf 16v, and as much as I do love it, the C is much nicer to drive ;) VR6 is a great choice and a great engine so just find the best, rust free, complete car you can afford and then make it your own. Good luck with the search and keep us posted :)
  22. That's brilliant, thanks so much Leon ;) I've found some on the bay and ordered so look forward to getting the standard lights back on! Cheers again Andy
  23. I've just bought some standard rear lights to replace the crystal ones (Cheers Goldie ;) ) However, I hadn't contemplated the fact that the crystal lights don't use the original bulb holders. You can see below the loom as it stands; The lights attached to the tailgate retain the bulb holders so it's only for the outer two light clusters I need these for, so it's N/S and O/S outer bulb holders/backing plates plus at least 6 inches of loom plus connectors for each side. Can anyone help me out?? Many thanks in advance. Andy
