i wouldnt say its your rack,im just wondering if pas belt slippage is causing a slight change in the engine rpm... if it was me id replace the pump you bought as a matter of course and stick a new pas belt on at the same time. see what the crack is then maybe? unless anyone else has any ideas? neil.

i thnk you would probably notice a difference in the power delivery? have you tried the old,screwdriver to your ear trick on things like the alternator? do the revs fluctuate or anything? it is a g60 aint it?

theyre prone to coming loose,its the stretch bolt that causes the problem i think? and in turn the movement you then get on the pully knackers the peg,or maybe even your crank :( id say if all goes to plan,it may take you 30-45 mins,if not it could take a lot longer! you definately need someone to help imo,have the car in gear and someone on the brakes. or you can possibly jam a chisel in the flywheel like i did :lol: be carefull in case something breaks off into the box though! edit:im not sure if it sounds like your pully thats gone?

im looking at stuff in the region of 5k,if i sell the rado and the sportline. ideally i wanted something newer,and non vw but looking around there isnt much to go for. :? anyway,searching for older stuff threw a couple of choices up,mitsi lancer evo 3? nissan 300zx so far,i like the idea of a lancer,always liked the look of the evo 4's,but i dont know too much about them. really like the look of this :D didnt realise they would be in my price bracket! neil.

at a guess id say its probably the rear lights? you could get someone to hose the car down while you sit in the back with the seats down and check for it. you could remove the light and use a little smear of clear silicone on the rubber seal,be carefull tightening them back up too. neil.

ahh cheers m8,well i suppose im learning through all this. :) in fact matbe i should have checked for any dry solder joints? is that something that happens on the ecu's? ps:possibly decided on a new car,just need some more info on them :) neil.

the little black plastic pipe m8? i had a quick look and it seemed ok,a clip on each end iirc,goes to a black box thing which i just sorta looked at and prodded a bit :lol: is that the actual map sensor? neil.

big thanks to darren for taking the time to talk me through a few tests. seems all sensors,earths etc are good,and no vac leaks. after speaking to darren,we sort of came to thinking either the chip or ecu was fecked. i put the superchip back in darren,but its still the same m8. i even tried my old spark plugs tonight for the hell of it :lol: try the ecu next? suppose its the only thing left?! edit:forgot to add,when i removed the sns chip,the two end pins were a little bent inwards,i pulled it out evenly and cant imagine i bent them putting it in! if i did then it aint like me! thanks,neil.

anything else i can try/test? just that it means having to get the cab back out the garage and go back upto the unit. on one hand ive just had enough of messing and getting dirty,on the other hand its really pissing me off and i want to know what it is.

fired up straight away. still the same. my dads booked it in at vw to go on the computer. thanks paul,if vw find the fault ill give you a shout on which bits i may need,if anything just to get it right to sell it. i really dont like the car now,and its making me ill.

off upto the unit i go,even though i feel like crap. dont think the cold and crawling about on the floor etc is doing me much good. :roll: neil.

:lol: i just got back from the unit about an hour ago. the new stem seals went in fine,the old ones were knackered as far as im concerned,pretty hard and the valves slid through quite a bit easier than with the new ones. the cheap shit halfords tool broke too :lol: anyway,the heads on with new stem seals/camshaft oil seal etc. got as far as getting the exhaust mani and inlet mani on,cambelt and tensioner (timed up,needs checking and tightening) and left it at that :oops: we made a couple of hicups that set us back a bit. so tommorow,all the fuel rail/wiring/pipes etc need to go on,drop oil/coolant etc and p-steering/water pump pullies back on then judgement time. :?: neil.

fpmsl :lol: aye looking forward to halfords more than anything,well probably baffle each other though! :lol: so,where exactly do i clean them gav? just on the faces then? do i really need to re lap them in? thing is the guy had the head on a vaccum thing and says the seal/seating is now 110% neil.
