Oh,i use the car about 4 times a day. And when i come to it...sometimes its dead...sometmes it just about starts.
-
Cheers guys. No alarm on there, just the immobiliser... Alternator puts out 14v dc as far as i can tell, well my meter was on dc anyway :!: After the car has been run,the voltage across the battery is 13 volts or there abouts...ive stood there for a while with the meter on  and no drop that i could see.Cant test much now though as the test meter has died. Tried my dads amp meter (where you stick the prongs over the wiring) and no amps were showing at all :? Tried the chaps next door which can read up to 200 amps i think...again,nothing showing. I have had every fuse out, including the uprated headlight loom. And when connecting the battery, its still sparking v strongly. I dunno...
-
Sounds like the dial faces are catching the needle/needle element underneath. Probably just a cse of re-positioning. Neil.
-
Aye,no worries m8,any input is appreciated... :) Has anyone actually ever gone 6 months with no problems at all with one of these things? Friggin old mk1 was 110% more reliable in every single way.
-
Aye,id have thought that...but it was doing it before the new bosch battery. :( Its as though something somewhere is really pulling the power...with the sparks at the battery terminal. But what? My test/amp meter has stopped working and only reads upto 10 amp anyway  Neil.

iTS TOTALLY DEAD EVERY TIME I COME TO USE IT.nORMALLY THE BOOSTER PACK (WHICH IM SICK OF FECKING CARRYING ABOUT) WORKS,BUT IT SOUNDED AS THOUGH IT JUST WASN'T CHARGED UP ENOUGH... feckin caps lock
-
Every time i come to start the car, battery is non existent. The alternater (with a newish volt reg) is putting out 14 volts. The boot light isn't stuck on,no bulb in it. The battery is fifty feckin quids worth of new bosch  Whats going on? :( ive been having to use a booster pack every friggin time, but i tried it earlier and nothing. So i threw the fecker to the other end of the street, came inside and had a fag for the first time in four days... When connecting/disconnecting the posi lead on the battery theres a lot of sparking/power (when its not dead) Ive had every fuse out,and it still sparks like mad,ive disconnected the alternater and it still sparks like mad. WTF? :(

Clutch pedal on floor and no gears.......any ideas ?
Riley replied to BigTartanJudge's topic in Drivetrain
Edit:weird, were no replies after id posted mine :? If the pedal is on the floor, possibly fluid related? maybe just half of a more complicated problem? Have you given it a visual under the bonnet? tried shifting the mech on the box yourself? checked fluid? checked for any visible leaks? checked for snapped cables? Not much help i know, but always worth a visual at the possible obvious. Neil. -
Ok,Three more tweaks to come and then that'll be it for a good while. Need to sort out a leccy problem (constant flat battery),and give it another full service, and then at a later stage...maybe end of next year start on the interior. So last few tweaks, gonna cross em off as they happen hopefully :!: 1/New wheels/tyres/bits are on their way.Cant wait for these :D 2/Something silly at the front end.Could go horribly wrong... 3/Something silly under the bonnet.Could also go horribly wrong... Neil.

The G has got around 145k on it...Everything works at the moment... Except the brand new bosch battery :( have to use a booster pack everytime i drive it,and i think the low voltage problem is affecting the spoiler :( Edit:did i say everything worked? Neil.

what are your perfect wheels for a 'Rado and why? Disc
Riley replied to vwdeviant's topic in General Car Chat
My favourite (maybe 2nd favourite) wheels of all time should be ready within a couple of months hopefully, cant wait :D Neil. -
Cheers Rob. 8) Mmmmm, just trying to work out the differences to what ive currently got. Current: 8jx16 ET27 with 195/45,absolutely no rubbing anywhere ever! Soon to be: 9jx16 ET15 with 215/40,will there be any rubbing? confused. :D I think i may risk it and go for the 215/40's...see how they fit and then if they rub, maybe see if the wheel mounting faces can be machined.Dont want to touch the bodywork really... :(
-
Damn :(
-
Cool, cheers Rob :) Is the vr6 wider track both front and rear then? Any rubbage with yours Rob? are they et15 all round? cant just remember  Ill keep quiet on the rims untill they are refurbed i think  ,as they could look horribly wrong :!: hopefully not like! Neil.
-
Wow. 8) looks absolutely fantastic Rob,the drops made such a difference, the rims look much more at home now  superb :D Any rubbage at all with the 215/40's? Neil.
-
Errm, the difference in rolling radius is only 1.75mm,im confused :(
-
Thanks m8. :) So from my current 195/45's going to a 215/40 there's a difference of -11mm overall circumference. So 5.5mm less??? :? tyre wall at the wheel arch? Its the width im worried about too,but maybe the 5.5mm less tyre wall will conteract the width a bit? :? Neil.
-
Thanks m8,its just that im having the wheels refurbed straight away and although i got them at decent money...its soon mounting up :( Its money i really shouldn't be spending at the moment as im looking at a house move... Neil.
-
Could someone give me overall dimensions/rolling diameter/width? etc etc...for the following: standard tyre size of g60 bbs's? 205/40/16. 205/45/16. 215/35/16. 215/40/16. I have a 92 G60,and i have some 9x16 et15 rims on the way...but im struggling to afford tyres :( Ive seen some 215/40's at decent money, but from what ive read, its not the ideal size? :( It would just be good to see the specifics of each size,as i think its very often hard work to get across whether we are talking a few mm here and there or more serious differences... Cheers,Neil.
-
Just thought id bump this up with part numbers as im currently working on a m8's mk2 G60: Head off, replacing cambelt/tensioner/all top end gaskets/repairing a broken (maybe 2) exhaust manifold studs/replacing valve stem seals/and the new mk1 gti crank bolt and washer... :!: Anyway, part numbers: Mk1 gti crank bolt:N 040 1064 Mk1 gti crank bolt washer:068 105 193A You may want to double check the numbers as my etka isn't working properly... Neil.
