Here we go - picture of the W8 interior light with the standard xoloured Corrado interior. To be honest you are better off retrimming the interior light and sunroof switch surround as the W8 light sits slightly proud of the surface. Hence what I did to mine.
-
Wasn't easy mate  hence the price tag (and the limited numbers).
-
Cool, thanks for the pic Stefan - looks great. I'll put you down for a spoiler switch mate :D BTW, the brightness should change when you vary the headlight illumination (on the dimmer) if all has gone to plan...
-
I should have a pic when the headlining was lighter mate - will check when I get home.
-
Woop woop... Now you see I like that, makes me feel like I'm on covert ops everything I drive it at night
-
Passat W8 interior light for me :D . Loads of light when needed and a nice subtle red downlight glow in the cabin.
-
Ok Monkey :D but the spoiler ones are strictly one per person
-
Thanks Monkey, but they don't light up normally - they were never designed to. For some reason VW decided to not have that switch lit (perhaps because it's out of the way). Hence why I'm offering a few 'custom' switches which I modify, rebuild the front of to let light through (what you see in the picture is not the original front), and install an LED. Takes quite a long time to make it look good, and is fiddly to say the least, hence the cost.

I've decided to make up to 10 of my illuminated spoiler control switches in the New Year. I'm going to be limiting it to 10 as to be honest they are a pain to do, but they are a unique mod. As with the other switch gear it will be case of sending through your spoiler switch and then I can do the work in the colour you need (it will take me a few nights to do each one). I can then send them back with instructions. These are going to be available at a cost of £40 each - this is a reflection of the time taken to make them. Let me know if you're interested and I'll add your name to the list. 1. Junkie (original green) 2. The delta force (red) 3. Das golf (red) 4. _leon_ (original green)

Couple of odd jobs done today. Fixed my exhaust heat shield. And, fitted my new illuminated spoiler control switch. Now it's in the car, I'm taking back my initial thought - it is not the most pointless mod ever. Quite like it now :D In fact I've decided to offer to make up 10 of them for people if the interest is there (see my thread in the supplier section). I'm not going to do loads of them, as to be honest they are a right pain to do, however some might want one :D :D

There are plenty of threads on here regarding fixing mirrors Mike (check with the search for a full list). Most likely candidate though is the inside of the switch (and the electrical contacts) being dirty. Best to open the switch up and give it a clean.

I have some old computer fans which I can sell you, which would do the same thing Tom  Basically, avoid, bigtime...

At the moment I have a box of bits sat in the corner of my room Tom. Unfortunately I am really busy up until Christmas, but should be able to make a start on it after that. And yes, I will be posting up on here when it's done :D (hopefully in that small gap between it working, and the engine going pop  ). Oh, and thanks for putting that abomination of a picture on my thread Jon :gag:
-
Will do Simon. Sorry, I misled you a bit the other night saying I'd never do another one  . Now I've had chance to mull it over, I think it would be special to do just a few :D .
-
Nothing wrong with a bit of pimpin' and thanks for the comment. I must admit I really don't want to make any more as it wasn't easy (although to be fair most of the work was in making the icons sheet in photoshop), but if people want I can put up how I did it. Also, after Christmas when I have a bit of time spare, I may (just may), be tempted to do a limited run on making these - say 10 - if there is sufficient interest.
-
Ooo, wow, that is so cool. Now where's my lunch money  Still think I can get a bit more red in mine and not have it look tacky though.
-
Thanks Mike :D
-
Ah, I've popped the one in my dash out now (and yes it was a pain). So I have something to compare it with (yay).
-
Out of interest is this for a later or early interior (not that the cost would be different, just that they are slightly different to work on). That would be £20 including the postage mate :D. Drop me a PM if you'd like more details.
-
Yes, it does make sense, but I seem to recall (the switch is at home) that there is another one of those tabs at the bottom left, so even if it was rotated 180 degrees it would look the same (this is making my head hurt now ).
-
Yeah in the car, it goes in the other way up Critical _Mass, but what I'm not sure about is whether the front plate is on the body of the switch the right way round (as it will fit either way round). Apologies if you can tell that from that pic.
-
Problem is with a lot of cars, it'd be on all the time  Finally finished it. But I can't remember which way round the front section clips on :brickwall: . Anybody got a photo (or can take one) of a spoiler switch so I can see which way round to put the front face back on (a side on shot would be fantastic please).
-
Just have to finish it off now and make it look good Jon (and yes it would bugged me if I hadn't done it). Hmm now then a dash mounted spoiler indicator. Must....resist...another...job...
-
Definately not an easy one Leonard, and I can understand why it hasn't been done much before (although I seem to recall someone out there had done it). Only a little bit of marketing
-
Sorry Simon, it has taken me 3 hours so far, and I'm not going to be doing another one as part of my 'switch recolouring' service as it is far from simple. Problem is the damn thing isn't even supposed to be illuminated, so there are no connections, no space in the switch, and no transparent emblem like the other switches, and to be honest I haven't even thought about how to reassemble the thing yet. Going to be a fun one .
