Early ones might still be available from the dealers - it was only the late ones that were phased out (usual VW logic). If you're still struggling to find one I probably have and early one tucked away somewhere.

Problem with replying in Cars for Sale threads
JMC replied to JMC's topic in Site Comments and Questions
Blimey - can of worms - reopened. I hadn't realised it was a closed section. Shows how often I tried to post in it.... -
Just been looking at the G60 in the cars for sale section and was going to post a question. For some reason I can't reply in there, but I seem to be able to reply in other parts of the forum. I don't know whether this has been going on for a while a I don't look in the cars for sale part very often, but are there any issues at the moment?

Thought that looked familiar - I remember reading the feature on that one. Not heard particularly great things about the TSR 2l conversion, something about it being a van engine and not wanting to rev. Depending on how it's mapped the power figures seem possible (I'm running 250bhp at the flywheel with a 1.9l overbore and GLader with a 65mm pulley). 282bhp at the fly might be a little optimistic, but with a good map should be close.

Thanks man :-)

Good to see people trying to improve the lighting on these controls. To be honest though I've tried LED's, miniature bulbs, but the best thing was electroluminescent sheet, cut to size, and then with coloured acetate to control the colours for the icons. Much more even lighting across all the icons precise control over the colour you want. Couple of example shots....

Especially good to see this work going into a G60. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out...

I have a mocal oil cooler on mine - temperature rarely gets above 110C.
-
Mines about 250bhp at the flywheel and I'm still running synta silver (10w/40 semi synthetic).
-
Same here, Synta sliver 10/40 (or whatever VW are calling it these days).

Don't worry, I'm not taking it the wrong way, just made me laugh a bit (and the names right). So, yes, you can have a ride on the day, but please remind me - I have a memory like a sieve. It's my daily runner, so unless I take a look back through my build thread I still think it's a standard G60, which oddly enough it never has been while I've had it. Even when I bought it nearly 10 years ago now it had a 68mm pulley, and flowed head. Since then there has been a hell of alot more done to it as well.

A 4 branch and a decat will make a difference to the sound over the standard. I found with mine there is more of a pulsing to the engine note with a 4 branch. G60's tend not to roar though - they're very different beasts to Type Rs. G60's tend to howl at high revs and full boost. Also I see it's running the standard airbox - take out the snorkel from the inside if it's still there, gives more induction noise from the intake side, and improves airflow. If you want even more induction noise get a decent cone filter (Jabba used to do them, and they come up for sale reasonably often). But whatever you do don't use foam filters.

Take it from someone who has tried different exhausts on a G60, 2.5" is too big for standard or even slightly uprated tuning. Unless you're planning 250+ bhp or turboing, stick with a 2.25", it'll be meaty enough. If you go for a 4 branch make sure it is a real rhd one not a lhd as mentioned above. Gwerks used to do them, but I'm not sure who else does these days, apart from as a custom job. Not sure on the legallity of decats on a K reg, seem to remember reading somewhere about if a car came with a cat and is registered after 92 its supposed to have one for the MOT (of course a friendly MOTer can help there). Nice looking car btw Laggo - glad to see one getting rescued and not being scrapped. Especially like the wheels. Hmmm black wheels on a dark car :-)

Always up for a rolling road session Jim. I'll come along assuming I'm not working on the day.
