    What Battery?

Yup - as SC suggested fits in nicely - a slight overhang into the engine bay on one side and the clamp on the otherside is just under the wing overhang. But seeing as that is the earth side its not really an issue. Don't know what clearances would be like on the VR though

    What Battery?

Seems to depepnd on your store. Officially they need proof you work in a garage ie bills, headed paper etc. Alternatively any certification you've got such as C&Gs. But some branches just assume if you know about it you work in the trade. Others seem convinced if you turn up in overalls!

    What Battery?

And the biggest Halfords one that fits is the HCB096 - or at least it fits in my 9A 16v. A fair bit wider than the original size. 700CCA. Price is £84.99 or £51.68 if you can wangle a trade card!
  4. Alarm now fully opearational and hunky-dory. Whilst working via the main switch, the sunroof still won't close via the key in the door nor the alarm. Does anyone have access to the circuit diagram for this circuit? A scan would be much appreciated now as this is starting to get frustrating! EDIT _ ALL SORTED NOW! Found the wiring diagram on one of those eBay workshop manuals I'd bought some time ago. Went out with a meter planning to check the voltage of the red/yellow (closure) wire to the sunroof - got the trim panel off and what do I find? Some mug has pulled the wire out of the motor's plug and taped it up neatly out of the way! No idea why someone did this or even when....... Plugged it in again and all seems fine! Full closure is mine once again! Reminder - must wax sunroof rails before it all snaps - sounds tired!
  5. Mk II has a small spline on the steering shaft - late corrado will have a large spline. Corrado does use a 'spline adaptor' taking it from a small to a large spline, but even if you remove this adaptor I don't think the horn contacts nor the indicator cancelling lug would be in the right place. HTH but I'm sure someone somewhere will have tried it...
  6. I'll go change it back now then! No - like I said before - still not sure about the curves on the alcantara bit - looks a bit flabby - and I could do with geetting a VW centre instead of the Audi one ..... but thats what I had. Its possibly 40-50mm bigger in diameter than the OE version vut just feels soooo much better than the original offering which just feels cheap & nasty. Just not sure I can be bothered with getting a VW airbag to dismantle.

    DIY wheel refurb

I had a look at my westwoods today. They look very sorry for themselves - very dull grey. gave them a scrub with AutoGlym Alloy cleaner but to not much effect. So I got the T-cut out and gave a good scrub with a JayCloth. Eventually the dull grey gave way to nice shiney mirror like silver paint :D Only down side is that the effect below was only achieved after 45minutes. Keep going like that and it'll be nearly 4hours per wheel...... Anyone know of anything swifter than T-cut...... or would that raise the likelyhood of going through the paint by mistake?
  9. Oh, and you couldn't have said that two years ago could you  Aah well - even if it is the right spline underneath I'd still have had to fabricate a slip ring and indicator cancelling lug from scratch so its all much of a muchness I guess!
  10. I know what you mean about the extras. We added a couple of bikes an engagement ring and a watch and it shot up. However, these items are insured outside of the home too against loss, theft etc so worth it in the long run. But with the garage - its part of the house, alarmed and very secure - but they just won't believe that you could have more than 2K inside. Add a decent compressed air system and that is the insurance gone without even buying a spanner!
  11. Has anybody else come across problems trying to ensure they've got adequate cover for their garage contents? My insurers say their max cover is £2K and this doesn't really come close. Its all secure in there but I'd feel safer knowing the tools were covered. Any suggestions?
  12. The steering wheel on my new corrado was well and truly past it after 140K miles. Being a cheapskate and not a big fan of aftermarket wheels I trundled off to the loft and found my steering wheel from my old S2 audi. It was an airbag model but I'd already converted that with an alcantara centre piece. As mentioned above, the only problem was the centre spline, slip ring and indicator cancelling lug. Off to scrappy for a £5 Mk3 Golf ryder wheel. Cut off the padding and chopped the centre. Turned this on the centre lathe down to a size which I could mount into the S2 wheel. Chopped the centre out of the S2 wheel with a big 76mm hole saw and mounted the two bits together with a nice piece of ally plate mounted where the old airbad slip ring unit used to be. Very nice wheel now with indicator cancelling and horn all functioning. Proper leather with a fat profile and with chunky thumb mouldings and raised lips on the lower edge. Still not quite set on the centre piece saying Audi but I'm not so keen on detonating another airbag just to get hold of a new centre piece! 'Bout 4.5 hours all in. Cost to me £5.00 :D

    DIY wheel refurb

Done two sets so far - BBS multispokes and estorils. Sanded down with progressively fine sandpapers then used filler primers followed by sanding, silver paint and a couple of coats of laquor. All rattle cans from halfords. Each job has cost ~£20 + many hours of work. Never what I'd call a mirror finish - but pretty damn good. Would probably have been even better had I been willing to spend the extra £ on having the tyres removed and refitted. About to start on some Ronal Westwoods soon - another budget job! Only owned the estorils for 12months after the refurb but they were standing up to daily use very well as far as I could tell.
  14. Don't expect much though. I think alot of the time they just pretend to apply a discount to keep customers happy. Last time I went in the guy asked his colleague what code it was for Owners clubs etc, then applied said discount code 'C' and gave me the bill - £0 discount. WooHoo. The fella justified it when I asked by saying certain parts cannot be discounted. Hmm.
  15. you can buy memory savers which plug into the cigarette lighter socket which are designed just for this purpose. fairly sure halfords do them. Not sure I'd want to leave a charger plugged into a sytem without a battery in the loop.
  16. Anyone can buy from the vans - its just that they don't stop anywhere other than garages. I tend to just call up my local guy and ask him where he'll be at what time. You should be able to get the number of your local guy from the kettering head office. In this months offers leaflet (click to zoom):
  17. stripper or just a cutter.? My snap on ones are fantastic - will go through anything and nothing has yet damaged the blade unlike my previous cheapos. The vans currently have a deal on for their new design - something like £25 + vat ? well worth it IMHO.
  18. Not the german UPS corrado? I really like this one (bar the fromt bumper) ..... great wheels, brakes, vents, colour.... Anyone know of anymore pics of this one?

hooooold on. just had a thought. If the roof is closing a bit - then that sounds like the closure system is working (albeit with short pulses). Next job is to get in the boot and hit the lock button. Do you hear the pneumatic CL pump firing (a sort of pnyeuh sound)? If you do - most likely scenario is a leak in the plumbing to the lock plunger - one of the connections loose. (could be anywhere though between pump and either door / boot plunger) If no pump activation noise then we're back to an electrical fault but I'd put money on a vacuum leak.......

No. Lock signal (+ve) when held signals sunroof and doors to lock in sequence. Usually the problem with corrados is that the alarms lock signal is not long enough for the corrado to get the roof and windows shut before the signal expires. Hence usually only partially shutting the last window. Doors lock at the same time as the first window as I recall. Sounds like you have something else wrong. There should not be any need to wire in anything else. If as you say, your alarm's CL output is not being used - then what output is being used to drive the car's closure system?

did it used to? Has anything changed? Auto locking on ignition is a selectable option on these alarms - but having said that, if the roof is closing that would indicate that the car is receiving a 'lock' signal from the alarm. Strange one..... but as is the problem I'm having with my auto-closure sunroof.
  22. The alarm just mimmicks someone holding the key in the lock. Sunroof closure should be part of the car's original wiring...... Oh, and I'm fitting the alarm!
  23. C'mon people - you've had two and a half months to think about it now! Any ideas? Windows work with the key just fine but the roof won't play. The Ai606 is going in tomorrow and I want it all working! Any ideas how the roof & windows are connected electrically on the closure circuit? Cheers,
  24. There is a clip in drip tray for the rear on passat moonroofs. Its about 50mm wide and the length of the sunroof. As far as I remember it just clips into place and catches drips from underneath the joint. It is channel shaped and allows drips to run sideways into the side drainage. Could be why you're leakink if you've not got one.
