  1. Yup - very good & thorough. Good places are never cheap but I'd not go as far as to say they're overly expensive either for what the offer. Used to have them look after my Gti when at university in Nottingham in '96. Still buying parts from them now!
  2. I'd almost guarantee it is your cables. My old corrado did this a few years ago. Rubber gaiter at the caliper end gets old, moisture gets in down the bowden cable then freezes the cable solid. No amount of warming the wheel / caliper sorts it. Just buy 2 new cables for £20 odd quid and solve the problem once & for all. My wifes A3 has been doing this all winter too. One cable was knackered causing it to seize up. Meaning only one caliper was doing all the work. Meaning also the one caliper took up all the movement & the lever travelled half as far. Both cables now replaced & handbrake operates as it should.....
  3. Also quite handy in conjunction with the Haynes golf is this one. Currently out of print IIRC but frequently on eBay.
  4. Said it before, I'll say it again. Estorils are top wheels. Add some black paint into the crevices & voila. Just bought a full set of new Toyos for £128 too. I love 15s!
  5. I'd firstly suggest they have been re-upholstered recently. I'd then say theyr're pretty much exactly what I have in the loft judging by bolster size & centre panel sectioning. Mine are Recaro Idealsitz LS. Who knows if they were ever OEM fitment or as an aftermarket upgrade. Bought them off eBay with tatty recaro cloth. Seem to be mid 80s Having said that, a talented upholsterer could probably make fiesta RS recaros look likt that with a bit of work.
  6. Quickest test is to borrow another RCA and run it over the top. I've fitted a fair few stereos & although not many had noise, one drove me crazy until I realized it was picking up the fuel pump where the RCA ran parallel to the cars harness for about 3" between the under-seat area into the boot. Found another route to the amp and hey-presto - interferance gone.
  7. Absolutely spotless clean & solid earth mounting point. Separate Power & RCA Ensure RCA does not run along any other car cabling (such as ABS, fuel pump etc) wiring or it will pick it up. Cross wiring at 90degrees. That'll sort it. Surpressors are not the answer.
  8. Yeah I know the feeling. I haven't driven mine since the tax ran out in April. Then the insurance ran out in May! I don't really have any need for it to be honest. I cycle to work and in the evening we take the wife's A3. Tax and insurance are just too much! £180 odd for tax and the same for insurance to drive naff all. But at the same time I can't bring myself to sell it. Did that with the last corrado and missed it sorely. Its not worth much so for the time being it'll just sit on the drive on trickle charge with the discs slowly being eaten by rust!
  9. Mine are 27179su M12 x 1.5 Mine are also aftermarket which may change the length of bolt you need. Aftermarket wheels may also mean you need taper rather than radius seating on the bolt heads. I think OE wheels need a radius seat, but I know my aftermarket require taper heads.
  10. I see no-one has mentioned Toad yet! Almost every car I've had since 1997 has had a Toad Cat 1 fitted. None have given me any trouble whatsoever (5 cars). Once I was forced into Clifford ownership with Black Jax (that was switched off after 2 weeks - what a PITA!). The clifford was orrible. Many sensitivity issues, failing keyfobs (double sided PCB breaking contacs between two surfaces etc). And a HORRIBLE fake carbon fibre blocky design remote. Never again with a clifford - though I will concur that with true 'professional' fitting they do make excellent additions. Upon inspection mine cartainly wasn't done by a professional. After I paid good money for my second Cat 1 to be fitted by a 'pro', I found an extra 40 miles on the clock and twisted wires with insulating tape. Subsequently re-did the job myself and have just done them myself ever snce. Take your time and its not a difficult job. I bought the last two alarms from eBay for ~£110. As I say, no false alarms, easy to configure and complete piece of mind.
  11. Aah but we all know not to believe anything that a halfords 'specialist' says! Thule suggest using the short roof pack because the roof is short! Using the kit as recommended gives it a more stable footprint & therfore secures the load more safely. But hey, people have found it bolts on without and 'haven't had any problems yet' so it must be OK. Meh. Good luck with the 205 issue. For reference, I do like the Thule kit and personally I'd avoid Paddy kits as when I worked as a Halfords specialist I saw a few less than ideal fitments and thought the kit was generally a fair bit less solid feeling in camparison. The Halfords own kit was very utilitarian by design. I'd concur with looking at Mont Blanc though...
  12. I'm no authority by any means, but like most here am aware of the relative low value of corados at the moment. So aware, that I've been considering 1.8t ing mine rather than selling it for something more modern. Recently been contemplating just getting a VR as its likely to end up much less than 1.8t ing mine. But anyway. Although yours does indeed look nice and well maintained cosmetically, from a buyers point of view you have a: Cat D write off 175,000 miles An engine burning oil and necessitating a new bottom end Holes where a supercharger & related ancillaries used to be. If I were selling I'd be inclined to leave the charger in place, sort the bottom end and sell it on as a 'covetted' and 'cherished' special Club car. At the moment it reads somewhat more negatively. Just my 2p not wanting to sound too harsh.
  13. Dream garage? This is about it for me: Of course, the area for working on cars is just out of shot but is marked out by the 2post lift. Have a look at the rest on the following post. I've seen prettier garages and flashier garages but none quite so well equipped as an attached domestic garage! Legend! http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2122&showall=1
  14. I thought about this too when I found a dumped corrado in a multi storey. A fairly tidy VR with just a few minor scrapes. After 3 weeks it was positively caked in grime. Took the details & reported it to plod trying to get advice on how to lay claim. Unfortunately the grime proved too tempting to the locals who first wrote stuff in the dirt and then pilfered bits then broke glass. Days later it was gone. No idea who had it. My suggestion is if you want to go the legal route of applying to be the new keeper, get a bucket down there and clean it & pump the tyres - makes it less of a target.
  15. Heh - me too! First was the tax to expire, and now it the Insurance in a week or so. Seeing as I only drive it in the sunny months, mine is now likely to be SORN for most of the year! NCBs do last a couple of years don't they? Insurance renewal came in at £221 but even that seems too much to fork out. Just can't bring myself to sell it! (and its not even a particularly nice example!)
  16. FYI, My old (94) corrado had a hook style switch. My new corrado (95) had the plain flat button switch & I don't like them! So, the newer style button panel came out (part no 1H0 959 728) and a 2nd hand hook style button panel went in (part no 1H0 959 855B). Both work faultlessly and are 100% compatible in my experience. Why not just buy another 2nd hand if the dealers are having so much aggro? I bet they aren't cheap new! I do have a rather dull late push button style one (in grey) here if you want it FOC.
  17. Finally found some Thule Bars at a boot sale today for £1.50 so though I'd try out the kit I've been ammassing. Read a while ago that the 477 kit was unecessary which was annoying as the Thule website suggested it was essential. Anyway. Findings for anyone who cares is that no, you don't need the short roof kit, but without it the bars are quite close together at about 580mm between bar centres. Add the 477 Kit in and you can space the rear bar a bit further back making the whole thing a bit more stable (720mm between bars) especially with big things mounted on top. Seeing as 477 kits come up on eBay all the time (think mine was £10 +p&p) I'd say it was worth it. Pics for reference below.
  18. Yup - nothing rare about the estoril I'm afraid. Lots knocking around and as has been said - can polish up nicely. But lots of work initially and also to maintain. Previously polished and now dull ones keep popping up on eBay. I reckon they look better with painted indents. My previous car belowon painted estorils. Bought Steves above for my new blue corrado for £100. Last set cost me ~£100 too. Other big + is that being 15s, you can get a full set of Toyos for £120 delivered making buying 2nd hand nice & safe.
  19. I've now had 2 corrados and three Audi coupes of the age you're talking about. One was a 2.0E and two were S2s. I did try a 2.6 V6 Coupe (autobox) and found it to be no better at all than the 2.0E. No idea re: the 2.8quattro. Regarding space in the back - go try one out but IMHO the coupes are only marginally better than the corrado. I certainly wouldn't want to be in the back of either for any long period. As with so many cars of this kind of age it is somewhat luck of the draw. The 2.0 and the first S2 cost me almost nothing to run. The second S2 nearly bankrupt me! The audi is a much bigger car on the outside but you don't really see much of the extra space on the inside. Personally, I wouldn't swap the current corrado for another coupe based on space requirements..... An S2 Avant on the other hand....... ?!

    space savers

I've got a different corrado since my 'they're discontinued' post four years ago! My new 16v also has the 125/70/15 spacesaver and yes it is also a continental. Hope you can find a replacement - let us know how you get on at the tyre shop!

    Roof Bars

Thats what I heard too on this forum..... But in fact its a bit of nonsense. I rushed to buy the first set 094 clips that came up secondhand. Bought them and smugly thought I'd check out just how rare they were...... Called three online suppliers of thule roofracks and all checked their shelves and confirmed they had them in stockat normal RRP! Roofbars and footpacks are off the shelf in halfords. I think there is some scaremongering going on RE the rareness of Thule bits!
  22. 2.0 16v. Reasons: Cheap / simple / reliable / pretty / no depreciation. Last few cars: Audi S2 ABY (sold to free up cash) Corrado 9A (sold to buy another S2) Audi S2 3B (sold to get rid of 'mare) Corrado 9A (current)
  23. Nice looker there. In fact its exactly the same as mine - bought at auction the same time as you for my wifey as she isn't too keen on driving the Corrado! Another 1999 1.8SE in silver with all the bits. Only difference seems to be the MPG. On the Audi forum you say you're getting 40mpg ish? Is that average? The other half isn't exactly heavy footed and we seem to be on less than 30mpg. I'm feeling something is up! Anyone any suggestions bar the usual clean the MAF & reset the ECU?
