  1. While on the subject are there any warning signs when the charger is on its way out?
  2. I think that's lilfuzzer's. Give him a shout nice bloke to deal with.
  3. The different stages are done by making the ports larger to increase air flow as I understand. Smaller pulleys can also be used to increase the rate at which the charger spins. Bare in mind you will need a new chip if you go up in stages or down in pulley size.
  4. You got any pics of the part that needs sorting?
  5. My charger was rebuilt by jmr in October 2014. It had a stage one which cost £385. You will also have to factor in removal and re fit costs unless you remove it yourself. Obviously it will cost more if you go up a stage or 3. The lifespan will go down the higher you go. Hopefully someone can post expected lifespans of each stage. For some reason I've got either 40 or 60k in my head for a stage 1 but could be wrong.
  6. Nice one. Post some pics when done.
  7. I did have a look around before I bought the set of fronts but they are all more or less the same condition. The beauty of doing it this way is you will essentially have the choice of 3 centres. Probably work out cheaper than what someone would want for a mint one if it exists. Happy hunting.
  8. If you go to gumtree and search for corridor g60 (not corrado) there is a set for sale for £50. Can't tell what condition they are in. Although if they aren't that great there is another option. What you can do is take the bolster supports from right hand side of passenger seat which will be in better condition than the drivers right side. You should be able to use the fabric part for the bottom bolster but not the seat back as it will have a hole in the wrong place where the adjuster is. So the way around this is to take the material from the back of passenger seat and get a new bolster cover made probably by a car trimers my dads a Tailor so will be doing mine he just doesn't know it yet. Hope this helps.
  9. No probs. they do look good in the pics. I recon it's one of those styles where the ride hight has to be right for them to have the right look.
  10. Type Montreal on corrado into Google and tap on images there's a number of pics with different colour rados. Are your current wheels 4 or 5 stud? If 5 they will fit straight on if 4 then you will need adapters
  11. Did they come with them originaly? As mine hasn't got a cover.
  12. £700 for a car in that nick. Happy days
  13. If it were up to me it would be hotels all the way but the wife and kids love camping. So as they say happy wife happy life. As for doing the vr6 it's an itch I've got to scratch and probably used the towing as a way of convincing the wife.
  14. Has anyone on here had a feature done on their rado?
  15. Maybe we all need to turn the split rim round like the fashion on golfs at the mo then your a shoe in.
  16. Starting to wonder if it's such a great idea as I will have the kids in the car so defo don't want to put them at risk. Might still do the vr6 swap all the same.
  17. It is currently going through bare metal re build so the car will be 100% or I wouldn't even entertain the thought. Obviously the brakes will be getting upgraded along with better suspension etc. as for swerving that could be said of any car really.
  18. It's not just the corrados that don't get enough coverage what about the polo's beetle etc etc. I can understand it being golf heavy as there are many more out there maybe catering to the masses.
  19. Well that's ****ed on my Bon fire. What sort of towing weight could I get away with as buying another car is not an option and the point of it was to have a nice car to drive around in while on holiday.
  20. Yeah when I win the lottery maybe.
  21. Where's the fun in straight forward? There are even companies that do engine mount conversion brackets and shortened drive shafts etc for the mk1. The bay as far as I know is the same size as mk2.
  22. If it was just towing I probably would go for the diesel. The vr6 into mk1/2 has been done loads of times so no probs there. Only prob with turbo is they don't generally kick in till about 2-3k which is fine when moving but not so great getting moving from a stop.
  23. From what I can work out the un braked tow weight for a gti is 1200kg don't know what it is for a cab but think it's the same. So anything under 1000kg would be well within legal limits. Not sure a turbo'd engine would be the way to go. Looking more at naturally aspirated possibly vr6.
  24. Afternoon all. Looking for some advise on what engine to go for in the wife's mk1 cab? I'm looking for an all rounder. It has to be strong enough to tow a caravan but also fun to drive when not towing. I've got a 1.8 8v in the garage which was in the car. Or is it more down to the gear ratios. Any ideas?
