Probably not significant, but remember serpentine belt and its route around pulleys (with there being one extra for a/c) is different to non a/c car.

The missus went to Dundee today - hope she didnt nick the Corrado and used Pug!
-
AS coolrado says. 8) This was a problem on cars over 40 years ago. Funny we have wipers that come on themselves when it rains, etc, yet the automotive industry ain't been willing to solve this one.

Autobahns and fast cars - Documentary on Channel 5 now!

I missed first 20 mins. Was interesting. A bit I saw at the start showed the understated but souped up police cars capable of 180mph iirc. -
Welcome. Nice car and clean engine!

7.15- 8.00 280mph supercar, too.

Dogzyboy, ranter was not in an Edinburgh VAG dealer, kinda further west and handy for me, if you get my drift. By the way, my son lives in Edinburgh and he takes his Lupo GTi to VAG at Western Motors (Newcraighall?) and likes them. Advantage at west end of Stirling have good name, too. (No experiences of how these two deal with 11 year old Corrados, though, but Advantage parts were OK about discount for CCGB card.)
-
Two out of three dealers gave me 10% discount when I produced my CCGB card and asked if they could. The one who did not, ranted on about how some Edinburgh VW club had "abused the system" and they would have nothing to do with discounts! I could not believe his aggressive style towards a regular customer who had bought two new and one s/h car and given them thousands of pounds worth of business. On the Monday, I phoned up one of the directors of the company who knew me and told him about my experience. He said he could only apologise, but I have never been back in 5 years.

I am no expert, but I would try that tip described on the forum somewhere, herisites. It goes something like: " take out fuses one by one while battery is connected to multimeter. When the fuse linked to the culprit component is removed, the multimeter reading will markedly respond." Seems that radio/cd etc players installed aftermarket are often the culprits. Use search with battery/flat etc. Good luck

From much experience on here, if the coilpack of the VR6 is still the original one, it is best replaced. Due to the great heat it is exposed to, the component develops hairline cracks in its plastic bit of the case and arcing and misfires result, particularly in damp conditions.
-
From my experience of the VR6, if the car is on its original coilpack, it will be in a bad way. Many seem to fail by ten years of age or sooner.

pm to you Michael (jenks)

Great pictures! Indiana's calling.

Jon_vr6 Just for my future needs, perhaps and for CazzaVR more immediately, I suspect, when drilling out seizedscrews and bolts, do you use a power drill with bit hard enough for metal or are you talking about something else (is it drive bits?)?
-
Also, in "search" use "engine bay" as forum category and look for "serpentine belt" - that is the correct name of the component. A couple of points in there will give you some ideas to start with. The route the belt takes around alll the pulleys should not be comitted to memory only - draw a diagram if you do not have the Bentley manual.
-
zoglet - I changed mine on my VR6 last year and I am 61 with no great car mechanics skills. It took a good part of an afternoon, but I will have been slow at it.
-
Jon_VR6 When you say you drill out seized bolts, how do you mean. How is that done? You say you are not the most mechanically minded - you are being modest! Regards Iain

Remember and flush that salt off, Jan. :salute:

The ecp one I have was made by Bosch, just in case anyone thinks all ecp stuff may be inferior.
-
I think I read somewhere that VAG's newest washer fluid has been formulated to avoid the problem of blocked jets somehow.

mikeswagon - Aberdeen, the best city in the UK if you like snow! You should have seen it years ago. I remember an occasion with heavy snow falling accompanied by an air temperature of minus 15 C. 8) PS Do not get rid of cars you really love, guys. It leaves you mentally scarred! I still occasionally dream about one we sold in 1978!

Nothing to worry about IMO. I would say that applies to most, if not all, of the cars we have owned over 30 years. If you have a partly volatile liquid splashing about on the windscreen and elsewhere, the scent of it is bound to be drawn into the car on many occasions. Surprised you have never noticed it before.

According to ETKA - 251 965 561 B "Additional water pump" is the part you want. No indication of how many lugs it's got on it tho dinkus is correct. The one I bought from ecp in August 2006 for my 1995 VR6 has that number (called "reference no." by ecp) but their "part no" is 201440740 It fitted fine and cost £58 plus Vat.
