Its a 1994 car. The numbers you've found are apparently for a Mk3 golf - so sounds like they may have made the Corrado switch obsolete - which would be great news :? . Part of the problem is that the local VW aren't in any hurry to sort this out - despite it being paid for. One irrate call later I've got the ball rolling (after waiting several days while they admitted to do nothing). As they have to speak to the "German Technical" as they call them - I was told by the "manager" that there can be delays on every single step to the "resolution" - and its therefore impossible to estimate how long it'll take to solve. But I can be assured that "they'll drop everything and make this their absolute top priority and that i'll be informed on every single step of the journey - however i might have to make a call every now and again to see how its going and trigger them to call the German Technical". Have you ever heard such a load of pish? Thats why I hoped someone on here worked for VW and could maybe help me out rather than go through these clowns.

Hi all - my other half had a knock the other day - someone crossed lanes and shunted the front corner of the car. The damage isn't too bad - the front bumper needs resprayed and one of the snap in bumper bits replaced - also the front wing just needs realigned as the knock bent it slightly. I took it to a place in Ruislip that was going to charge £650 for it - which seemed outrageously high. Are there any pro painters on here that might be able to give a cost estimation - to help with quotes? I had thought more like £350 tops. Pics attached :) If anyone can also recommend a good reputable bodyshop in the west London area - Ealing/Chiswick/Harrow/anywhere around west really - that would be an enormous help! Thanks :)

JMC - interesting you should say that! How much for the windows, headlight, sunroof, fog and rear heater? I think thats them all. Maybe there might be one more I've forgotten - will need to check

I went to my local dealer (Citygate Ruislip) to get a replacement sunroof switch. They look up on ETKA - I check the screen out too - part ordered. Part arrives a week or so later and I collect. Instead of being a grey colour the switch part was a little beige. The buttons were different too - so my immediate reaction was this part has been superseded. I try it out by plugging the multisocket in and find that nothing happens. So on returning to VW I say its the wrong part - they check ETKA again and say the part is clearly not the same as the original - but they have to speak to "German Technical" to find out what to do... Old part number: 1H0 959 855 B New part number: 1H0 959 728 5YX Does anyone here work for VW or come across this themselves? Anyone able to help out please?

I notice the difference in a few days too. Bit sluggish and needs a few revs. Theres a really noticeable difference - like you say - fine if you have a home for it and use it daily - but I use the tubes everyday. The Odyssey still seems quite small - is the holder decent? 17kg I can live with if its right for the application - sounds so. Was there a UK distributor you used?

The layout of everything in the bay is nicely done just now so don't want to move things around too much - otherwise would just get a Bosch Silver which never let me down before. 3 weeks is the ideal - but 2 would probably suffice. Spoke to Nick and he reckoned a week was the limit for the braille i have - thats just not long enough for me personally. Holiday was awesome - Hk was a bit boring - Tokyo was awesome - got some great pictures (gf was pissed off I was spending so long taking photos) - will post some from the Nissan store later this eve. Tokyo - pure sensory overload. And...yes theyre hot!
-
StrictlyDubs have the B3121 on shelf? Cool thanks :)
-
I love the size of it - hate the crap lifetime of it. How long did Braille take to get it to you?
-
Thanks fella. 5 days... Hmmm might have to contact them and ask for some advice on that then. They've got a specific holder now - to replace the universal one - which I think is whats pictured?
-
move the aquamist??? Could do - had thought about removing it altogether - as the pump doesn't seem to be a particularly robust unit. But if the B3121 is as good as I need I'll just get that - it is quite sexy after all ;) Karl - back from hols mate - PM me about the protectors and lets get that sorted out for you :)
-
The Aquamist kit fitted is in the way - so can't fit a normal sized battery.
-
Thanks a lot guys for the help :) Shaun - did you buy from Braille direct? How much reserve would you say the B3121 has - e.g. can the car be left for 10 days without going flat - and crank up perfectly fine? Do you also know if the Schimmel battery holder is fine with the B3121 too - as it seems to be slightly larger?
-
I've got the Braille battery (as sold by Schimmel) which is a beautiful little thing - but after 9 days of no driving (I've been on holiday), the battery was as good pretty much flat. Either it doesn't hold charge for long or it was low on charge before I left. My money is on the battery not holding much charge. This is the second time it's gone flat on me after being left for a week (or up to 9 days) and last night my neighbours endured a sleepless night while my alarm rang from 2:30am. I got a charming note left on my car to make it clear this cant happen again. So with that in mind - what is the best battery for a road car application - a tiny gel battery just isn't feasible on a weekend car that isn't secured in a garage. A battery smaller than the Bosch Silvers (that I used to use) would be nice - with loads of charge and cranking power. What are the options? :)

On the drive home today it wasn't making nearly as much noise - although at 3.5k could consistently hear it. Listened around the car again and its definitely coming from the driver (belt) side. I'm suspecting the power steering pump now - as the location of the noise seems to point directly at it. Only thing against that is the loss of noise once the clutch is pressed in. Could it be due to the loss of revs and load that causes it to quieten down - or is that just silly talk?
-
hehe sunday morning blondeness. guys - pi$$ off!
-
i can hear it at motorway speeds! the squealing not the charger
-
I don't think its the charger - the sound isn't coming from there. if it was the charger - wouldnt revving with the clutch pedal pressed down then make the same sound?
-
cool cheers James 8)
-
Thats right - it did have the clutch changed same time as the chains. Its possible the release bearings were crap or grease has just worked its way out? Pretty sure the LUK VR clutches can handle 300bhp ok - just may have been an opportunity for something better - taking the box off isnt something i want to do too often!
-
cheers bud. Its not stock though - its vortech'ed - NickVR6s old vr.
-
Just a new clutch kit thats needed then? Or is it likely a new release bearing is all thats needed? If the former - any good clutches to go for rather than replacing with a vag clutch? You're probably a good person to ask that question ;)
-
When I tried using a long screwdriver to see where the noise was coming from - it seemed to come from under the car. I suspected the idler pulley initially - but seems its not that. Driving along at 70 on the motorway I can hear it squealing away... Whats the work involved? Gearbox off? how urgent is it to fix?
-
Hoping someone can help! From cold idle (no gear engaged of course) and clutch not pressed I can hear a 'tapping metal' kind of noise - very irregular and not too loud. Rev and just get the same. Drive the car (in gear clutch up) and once over 2k rpm I can hear a loud squealing noise - enough to turn heads on the street. This whine/squeal gets slightly higher pitched the higher up the rev range I get. No loss of power though. The key thing here though is - when moving and gear engaged - push the clutch down and the noise disappears (not instantly but fades after 1-2 seconds). Lift the clutch again and the noise is back. A mate reckons its the clutch release bearings are dry and causing it. I've been working away from home and the car only gets driven at the weekends - he reckons this is the cause. What does it wound like to you? Anything I can try to rule out a few other candidates? And any ideas of work involved/costs? I first labelled the noise as a worn idler pulley or belt squeal. Any help massively appreciated - I need to drive it to London from Scotland soon! Cheers 8)

Are you still planning on selling yours then? Yeah got a job in Edinburgh - but transferred to the London office - work in London every week pretty much so got fed up travelling - plus the gf is in London and I love it there. And chuffed Andy bought the G60 - not sure what his plans for it are - but he's managed to work through a fair bit of the issues very quickly - think he's not using it too much but pleased he's got it! -
I'm debating with myself about this too - roof or boot. Both will probably damage the paintwork a bit. When I think about the roof idea - doesn't you get loads of stone chips all over the road from dirt/stones/etc dropping off the attached bike onto the car?
