looks like it wasnt the lambda sensor after all, started her up and noticed the bottom pulley was jiggling about, so i removed the outer pulleys and the crank bolt was only finger tight :brickwall: damage doesnt look too bad, so i will just get a new pulley re-dress the end of the crank shaft and maybe get it pinned and make sure i use thread lock on the bolt this time. i had read a few threads with people having the same issues and it turned out to be the same thing so i suppose i should have really taken note  its not a massive job and i was going to change the cambelt soon anyway so might as well do it now.

new lambda sensor arrived today, the tip looks a bit different to the old one but i spoke to someone from bosch technical and they assured me it is the correct type and its just an updated design which is meant to be more resistant and longer lasting. just hope it sorts out the horrendous MPG figures and its not something else causing it.

you also need to use the original corrado carriers with the mk4 rear calipers, all corrados use the same rear disks though so it doesnt really make a difference.

Cool WTF is it?
-
Will try to, going to be working away in Scotland for a couple of weeks and i need to sort out the rough running and 15mpg issue first so there won't be much progress for a while.

On the early models the first click on the fog light switch only turns the front fogs on and doesn't turn the fog light warning light on so I might just use it for running lights. The LED's and vero board arrived yesterday, 200 ultra bright White and 200 ultra bright Amber just need the polycarbonate and a couple of other bits and I will start building them up. Decided I'm going to go for a horizontal layout with the indicator across the top and the fog at the bottom.

yeah i had looked on ebay but the part numbers they quoted dont seem to match, with the discount it will be about £50 from ECP anyway and i dont mind swapping the connector, i just need to find out if they are the correct ones

It looks like my lambda sensor may be dead, its the original one and has covered over 170k and the car has just started hesitating under load, slow pick up and mpg is down to about 15mpg (usually about 35mpg) last time it did this it was caused by a broken wire on the lambda sensor but this time the wiring is fine, i tried unplugging the lambda sensor and it acted exactly the same with no change in MPG. i have been looking around at some of the sensors available and i have noticed there are ones for corrado's with a cat and ones for a corrado without cat, obviously my corrado used to have a cat and the original sensor is part number 037906265b but as it is now de-catted should i fit a different sensor? or just get a standard replacement? wheres the best place to get one as i dont fancy paying £140 from vw, it seems euro car parts do a universal bosch 3 wire sensor for £56.34 so all i would need to do is swap the connector over.

another place to get some real bargains is http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/

I don't mind proper rat look or barn find air-cooled or vintage dubs but when you get a mk3 golf covered in parking dents, rattle can patch jobs and missing trim, it's just taking the piss.

Will be nice to see a decent corrado in the show and shine, some of the few cars in there just don't deserve to be, and i think some people just use it as an excuse for indoor parking. There was a mk1 golf cabby there a couple of years ago with a shockingly bad interior that been trimmed with a roll of vinyl and a stapler, I thought it was a joke at first but sadly it wasn't  Always a good show to start off the season and if you get there early there are some great bargains and unusual items on offer a mate of mine bought a full stainless mk1 golf exhaust for 40 quid and there are usually some nice wheels for sale.

I have a couple of tanks a 250l aqua one aquience bow front corner tank and a 4x2x2 tank, the bow front tank has 1x dragon goby, 2x paradise fish, 1x hoplosternum catfish, 4x bristle nose plecs (2x normal 2x albino), 4x golden wonder panchax, 4x Bolivian rams, 1x scarlet bruno plec (my favourite), 4x zebra snail eating loaches, 1x unknown L number plec, 2x angel fish and 2x Congo tetras, the 4ft tank has 1x black shark, 1x albino bristlenose plec and a blue cherax crayfish, I know your not really meant to keep any fish with a crayfish but the black shark rests on top of the crayfish in it's den and the bristlenose just keeps the algea down and keeps out of the crayfishes way. Most of the fish are relatively young but we have a 6ft tank downstairs for the bigger fish. There does seem to be some debate about water changes, when I used to do regular 20% water changes I had quite a few fatalities, I was then advised by an old guy who had been keeping fish for years to just leave the water alone and just top it up when needed, I haven't done a water change now for 2 years and have not lost a single fish in that time, I test the water regularly and clean out the external filter every two weeks, the water is crystal clear (apart from the beneficial tannins from the mopani wood and the plants are nice and healthy with a steady co2 supply and good lighting. If you want to see beautifully aquascaped tanks check out http://www.thegreenmachineonline.com/ I could spend hours in there.

this is the light output of the fogs with the H7 LED lamps in them, although i also have the laminex tints on the fogs and indicators so that will reduce the brightness a bit, even without the tints they are only really bright enough to be used as running lights.
-
will get some pics up tomorrow morning. covering up the reflector will just reduce the light output even more, 20 SMD LED's just isnt enough to replace a normal fog bulb so although they look good they dont work as fog lights.
-
they actually look pretty good, are they a manufactured product?
-
i already have H7 LED front fog lamps as the front fogs are crap on corrados anyway so i decided to just use them as daytime running lights, although i had to remove the metal bulb shield from the inside of the fog light housing as this fouled the end of the LED lights. the H7 LED's are very bright to look at when out of the housing but they dont disperse the light very well as they only have 4 forward facing SMD LED's and 16 side facing LED's which bounce off the reflector, so although they look very white they dont project much light on the road. by using hundreds of high intensity 5mm LED's (20000 mcd) all facing forward i should be able to get a decent amount and spread of light
-
I'm going to have a go at building some all in one LED fog and indicator clusters for the front bumper, enclosed behind tinted polycarbonate, the only thing i'm not too sure on is the layout of the fog and indicator sections, should i keep them in the standard layout (indicators towards the outside and fog on the inside), or maybe change it to one above the other, in horizontal strips, i was also toying with the idea of building daytime running lights in with maybe a thin line of leds across the bottom. and before anyone starts going on about E marks, they wont be for road use so it doesnt matter :D So any ideas on layouts?

im lucky enough to have driven the 458 italia and the SLS albeit only about 20 metres from inside a factory unit and back, after i fitted trackers to them, and compared to other ferrari's i have dismantled the 458 italia is much more impressive, it actually seems to be built more like a production car as opposed to a kit car like most older ferrari's and the dash is beautifully laid out and put together, the sound is tremendous, sounds dirty especially when started from cold, the SLS was much more civilised and comfortable, felt like it would be great on a long journey although the interior was a bit dull, but it was very well put together, mercs recently seem to have been built to a budget even the top of the range models but the SLS is a big improvement.

Thread resurrection time. Went to my local 99p store the other day to get some bungie ropes, and while I was there I noticed some bottles of rain repellent spray called mean machine Rain Away, so I thought it would be worth a try for the price, and it seems to work brilliantly, don't know how long it will last but it seems to be better at keeping the ice from sticking than rain x and seems to bead off very well. It also says it's suitable for plastic motor cycle visors or glasses which rain x isnt. Well worth a try if you don't want to spend 5 quid on rain x.

you should be able to tell if the pulley is standard or not, the stock pulley is pressed steel and usually painted black, most non standard pulleys are machined aluminium, and either bare aluminium or anodised. Its worth knowing if you have a smaller pulley as it ruduces the service interval of the charger (quite dramatically if its a really small pulley  ) A friend of mine used to have a polo G40 which had a different chip but a standard pulley, but im not sure if the same sort of thing was available for the G60.

Bought a set of theses a couple of weeks ago as my standard mounts are properly dead this time (torn away from the middle) so I thought I would them a try, I have just phoned the manufacturer as I was a bit concerned about the design of the metal plate after reading a couple of posts on other forums, he told me that the metal plate was added after a customer had fitted them and managed to damage his bonnet after hitting a large bump, but from the sound of it they had been fitted incorrectly, still not sure whether to use them or not.

the switches are just basic compact sealed microswitches and if i remember correctly where made by a company called "cherry", when mine stopped working i just popped them apart cleaned the contacts with brake cleaner and they have been fine for the last 2 years.

you might just have to put the imobiliser chip under the steering cowling next to the reader coil and just rely on the cobra imobiliser instead.
