I bet you wish you could do this in your corrado!
Skimask replied to PhatVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Yeah you could....put a MacDonalds plastic tray under each rear wheel and put the handbrake on - and boot it - you'll get near perfect doughnuts and you don't need snow. -
Bus driver jailed for five years - is it fair!!!
Skimask replied to Andy665's topic in General Car Chat
As with most court cases that make the headlines there's usually more to it than meets the eye. You would have to be attending the court case to get the full facts regarding the incident and the background to the case. -
Tek, I gather they have bled all 4 wheels of the car? If so then as mentioned above it'll be the rear brake valve airlocked. Also, it's like they've let the level of the fluid reservoir fall too far and let air into the clutch master cylinder (its shared with the brake) they'll have to bleed the clutch as well. Brings to mind a problem I had when bleeding the Rado brakes, I couldn't get any pressure until I'd bled the brake master cylinder!

Just bought a copy off Ebay. it does look good!

Charles the drop on the springs are 30mm.

Brilliant :D :D Reminds me of that old chestnut: What's the difference between and Essex Girl and her essex boyfriend? The girl has a higher sperm count!

As Gavin says you'll be doing yourself a favour replacing them if they've benn on for a number of years. It's not sensible to use old fittings - they cost pennies. the flexible brake hoses are generally around £9 or so from any motor factors. I generally don't take any chances with brakes, and have replaced all the pipes bar one even though they look good doesn't mean they are! The pipe that fractured in my earlier post had passed an MOT test a few hours before!
-
rp - the brakes can be a bar steward. The pipe runs from the compensator along the beam an into a small flexy hose that's difficult to see, and difficult to get to. It may be a simple job depending on the state of the connections! For instance I changed my front flexy hose today - but disturbed the solid pipe next to it (it looked OK) but it fractured. By the time I'd made up a replacement pipe most of the fluid had drained out. So now I had to bleed the brakes - only for one of the bleed nipples to shear off. Now I'll have to get a replacement caliper!!! You'd be better inspecting the work your going to do first and try and spot any potential problems - i.e. suspect connections, even try the Rear caliper bleed nipple, make sure its going to move! Best of luck!!

Andy, cheers mate that's what i'm looking for!!!

No-one??

Where's the best place to get a set of angel eye headlights? I gather they are plug and play, just not sure if there is a LHD and RHD version? I phoned our local GSF about them but said they don't do them, yet I'm sure someone on here said they were available!

Hi Yandards its a 1.8 Unfortunately there's not a lot of GTI's and even less Corrado's in Scotlands scrappies.

Hi Folks, The Fuel Pressure Accumulator is seeping fuel on my valver - it sits next to the fuel pump and filter. Does anyone know offhand how much they are new and if a VW only part?

Yep split, Mark the distributor and cylinder head - I scored both as paint or marker pen easily comes off!! I dismantled mine last night, but will have to replace the distributor. Once you've scored the marks and removed the cap and connector its only 2 X 10mm bolts holding it on. To dismantle the distributor, remove the spring covering the pin on the drive coupling. Knock out the pin to release the drive coupling. This should let the shaft be pushed out of the distributor housing. The shaft was worn on my distributor and will have to replace the whole unit.

My C felt a bit underpowered recently - and a belt along the dual carraiageway it mis-fired like it was only firing on 3 cylinders. I took out the sparkplugs to give them the once over - and came across this: The central electrode is missing! the insulator moves up and down - you can see the difference in the 2 pics. I've searched around in the cylinder with a magnetic probe, but nothing appears to in there, i.e. no metal particles. A cold compression test gave 160 lb/ft which if I remember correctly is the same as a year ago. The question is - what size are the central electrodes and has this happened to anyone else on here? I still haven't ruled out the possibility that is welded to the pistopon or valve!! I don't have a spare plug to dismantle!

killed my golf runabout( and nearly me as well)
Skimask replied to carpy25's topic in General Car Chat
Carpy its good your missus and yourself are OK - it was a close one, that car is mangled! If the police aren't pressing charges after that, I'd suspect she's the wife or relative of a policeman or even a WPC! That accident should warrant at least a charge - 'due care and attention' or whatever it is. There's little doubt the build quality of the VW saved all concerned from more serious injuries. It also illustrates the benefit of airbags! I'm just glad you both come out of that accident in one piece! -
Whats the most embarrasing moment you've had in your corrado
Skimask replied to surfer.vr6's topic in General Car Chat
That reminds me a few years ago at a drive through - a guy came out of a bus (must've been a day trip) and tried to order about a dozen BigMacs and was promptly refused because it was a drive through. I told him to wait a minute, and once we had our order, I let him sit in the drivers seat to make his order! The girls face was a picture....not chuffed at all! -
What about the engine mounts? If they have play in them it'll let the engine move around, especially coming off the throttle?
-
It's highly dangerous.
-
I'm just wondering if the conrods are bent? On some engines when the valves and pistons mash, the conrods do bend. But I'm thinking the G60 ones should be stronger than normal?? Probably better having a chat with darren, he'll have seen quite a few disasters.

Bonnet release cable broke through the week. I picked up the replacement this morning and fitted the new one (£25) this afternoon. It was a real Bar Steward getting both catches to work on the broken cable. Managed to release one catch, but had to jack the car up and get the other one from underneath. I now have a bonnet that can open :D

Totalled R32, hit a big oak tree and lost.....

Maybe its me but the forum certainly has brightened up since CorradoWales joined....keep up the good work :D :D -
Joe, Wire brush the threads behind the locknut, you'll be able to see which way loosens it. You're going to have to clean the threads up before trying to loosen them anyway. If the garage is any good, they'll make sure the steering wheel is in the straight ahead position first, and then adjust (both sides if necessary. I've never come across adjustment on one side only, but you never know!!

The screw just closes a lugged clamp. I had to wrench the filter off, remove and clean up the clamp. The cable ties are a better option.

Jules, Book the car into Starperformance (details in suppliers section), and get them to do a rolling road tune. They specialise in tuning VW/Audi it may cost about £80 or so but it'll be worth it.
