  1. Managed to knock-up a DIY acid bath which appears to be working, so this thread can be locked , Cheers
  2. Just spoken to Fat Wheels and split-rim bolts are NOT stretch bolts at all, all they require is to be torqued up to the correct nm when refitting. If they were stretch bolts then fair enough, obviously I wouldn't re-use them (like head bolts etc.). But I don't think people would justify spending £100-£150 per time (roughly £1 per bolt) for 120-160 bolts every single time they refurbished their split-rims to replace bolts, otherwise there would be a shortage of bolts and manufacturers would be loving it ! Anyways, Fat Wheels recommended using an acid-bath (hmmmn, maybe I can knock one up and get hold of some acid from work....) of some sort to strip away old corrosion etc. and they said there was no problem reusing bolts. Cheers
  3. Hey all, I have a set of split-rims that I have taken apart and the bolts are all intact and in good physical condition but I want to get them chromed. I have a friend with a chroming machine but was wondering which would be the best way of cleaning / prepping the bolts prior to sending them for chroming ? Any suggestions welcome, Cheers
  4. Best final drive for sprints i.e where acceleration is no. 1 priority is the 3.94 final drive from VW. Cost £208 plus VAT from the stealer. Cheers
  5. Ok so do people reckon I will have clearance issue with running these wheels on my rado ? Will be running 8 x 17", ET26 (ET46 but ET26 with 20 mm adapters) rims that are going to be fitted to my corrado. The car will be lowered on H&R coilovers with VR6 topmounts, uprated bushes and poss. Eibach ARB's. Have heard some folk say you need to have an offset of around ET15 when running 8" or wider rims ? If so should I just get 30 mm adapters instead of 20 mm ones. Any useful advice appreciated, Cheers
  6. Beat me to it Kev ! True enough, it's an E36 cluster and none of the BMW's of that era, (or this era for that matter) can do anything like the indicated speed or rev to such indicated rpm. Methinks it's just a wee bit fake, Cheers
  7. If airbox is full of petrol mate, something is far wrong ! I take it you meant water and oil ?
  8. RWHP = rear wheel horsepower(yank talk for WHP on a RWD car, e.g. Supra)
  9. Ok will PM lowvento, just hope he will split them as well as would like them all done in one place at the same time and I never have a lot of spare time anyways. Is there any companies or other individuals that people have used for polishing and refurbishing split rims before that are reasonably priced ? Cheers
  10. Does anyone know if lowvento refurbishes wheels as well inc. split rims ? Cheers
  11. Hey all, I am looking to get a set of wheels refurbished. They are 2-piece split-rims with polished outers. The outers just need the corrosion cleaned off and a few minor curb marks removed. I would like the centres fully polished or diamond cut. I have had a quote of £105 plus vat per wheel to refurb and diamond cut the centres or £130 plus vat per wheel to refurb and polish the centres. This was from a very well-known wheel refurbisher but it seems a little high at total of £493 plus carriage for diamond cut (for set of four wheels) or £611 plus carriage for polishing (for set of four wheels) ? Does anyone know of any other companies capable of doing this work who are more reasonably priced ? Or are there any people on here that carry wheel polishing and wheel refurbishing ? Any help would be much appreciated Cheers
  12. My Corrado is very late 1991 G60, hope this helps, Cheers
  13. As the title says, does anyone know if a steering wheel boss from a MK2 Golf will fit the Corrado ? Cheers
  14. Darren, the wheels are 17", so why would I want 16" tyres ?? Also I know which tyres I want it's just the sizes for 8 x 17" wheels I was after as I am not using to running this size of wheel. Cheers
  15. Hey all, I need to decide what sizes of tyres to put onto my rims. I have a set of 8 x 17", ET26 (ET46 but ET26 with 20 mm adapters) rims that are going to be fitted to my corrado. The car will be lowered on H&R coilovers with VR6 topmounts, uprated bushes and poss. Eibach ARB's. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations on which tyres sizes to go for to have the best compromise between looks, handling and clearance ? I was thinking 205/40 R17 for the rear but nor sure about front ? Cheers
  16. Sounds good guys, cheers for the info, handy that Wellahead engineering is in Aberdeen ! Will contact them and try and get a set of combo. adapters and spigot rings made up. Would someone be able to tell me the diameter of their adapters they use to change PCD e.g from Porsche to 4 x 100 PCD or similar. I also need to know the thread pitch / size of the threaded bolt holes and diameter etc. to give to the engineering company. Many thanks in advance Cheers
  17. This one at the top wasn't the one featured in Golf Xtreme magazine as I have that particular issue, however, it is the one that was for sale on ebay a few months back. That MK1 Golf from that issue had twin-turbo's on that Rover 3.5V8, something like 450-500BHP, totally mental !
  18. Ok, The wheels concerned are 8 x 17" size, PCD is 5 x 120, using 20 mm spacers PCD will then be ET18, centre bore is 72.6 mm. Can't machine out the adapters as then the hubcentric adapters wouldn't fit onto the hubs. So I am guessing here i will need a set of spigot rings made with a thin hubcentric flange ? Cheers and sorry for confusing / gertting confused, just don't want to buy a set of wheels then find out I can't use them !!
  19. Yeah, It's just that the wheels concerned (8 x 17") need hub adapters (20 mm minimum) to fit 4 or 5 x 100 PCD already and this will reduce the offset from ET38 to ET18 so I really need to get spigot rings that don't have spacers attached. I take it you can get these made as well ? So I need to ask the engineering shop / fabricators to make spigot rings ? What dimensions would I need to give them etc ? Cheers for the help guys
  20. Hey all, Am considering getting a Passat B5 as my daily driver. Seem to remember reading somewhere that the synchro drivetrain had reliability or some other issues in the Passat and that the 4MOTION was far better ? Does anyone have an opinion, have any information or know about these models ? Cheers
  21. So how much are we talking here to get a set of these spigot rings made and does anyone know of companies that fabricate them ? Where did you get yours made Henny ? Cheers
  22. Hey all, Is it possible to convert a set of alloys with 72.6 mm centre bore to 57.1 mm centre bore with spigot rings or by some other method ? Any help appreciated Cheers
  23. If it's just arches that need rolled then that will be fine just don't want to get these rims and then find they won't fit without MAJOR arch / mod. work Cheers
