Last drive of my Corrado - not selling tho!
jamiehamy replied to jamiehamy's topic in General Car Chat
Oooft, it's not been long and I'm missing the old girl. The S4 is great, more than great, but I have to admit, slightly soulless compared to the Corrado. Also, the garage she's in is hopeless tbh, very damp - steering wheel is covered in mould already. I'm trying to get some quotes for insurance and hopefully just put her back on the road. Given I don't drink, take drugs or smoke, I think this is a guilty pleasure I'm allowed...so I tell the other half anyway! Mr Osborne must love me... So watch this space! -
I rang it tonight as I speak/understand some German and the number on the message is just the fax number '0536130857777 ein fax senden' - to send a fax. (I called the 30 85 77 - 22 number). Not that I'm helping, but just so you know you're not missing out on anything! :)

I just bought a fault code reader from ebay after going through 3 rotten cables. It's basic, but it reads fault codes, which is all I need most of the time. £30 well spent.

I've parked mine up after buying an S4, but I'm not liking it lying up. Started her and she was on 4 cylinders because of damp and discs are already got surface rust, even tho in an aired garage. I hate her being parked up, but insurance is too expensive because of no spare NCB. As much as the Audi is absolutely amazing, I miss the sheer chuckability and simplicity of the Corrado. And for those that think a Corrado is expensive to maintain, try an Audi! I start my engine once every few weeks and run it to temperature and up and down the drive, revving a bit when hot. Not ideal, but I much prefer that than not at all. I make sure I operate everything on the car, lights, wipers, sunroof, spoiler, locks, bonnet, rad fans and so on. I do miss driving it tho.

And so-called 'Brembo' discs at a low price. I replaced them after 4months with genuine, as well as the bearings. No further issues. I fully agree, it actually is worth paying more for genuine parts, i started partly because of Kev's posts, but also after buying several parts twice because the old ones were rotten - like Elliot's TRE's!

First time I ordered from Euro online, the bits never turned up. After giving it a couple of weeks (it was jsut before Xmas), I phoned. I phoned about 15times on different days before someone told me they would put money back on the card and hung up. Another week later, nothing, and same palava to get through. Eventually they refunded with no apology. So I'm very wary of using them now, which is a shame because they have some good deals on.

My theory is the opposite, I'm convinced the reason I had so few problems with mine is it was in constant use, so nothing had the chance to seize/rust/corode or anything! Sadly I'm in the same boat and parked the Rado up after not being able to insure her. I moaned ages ago about new insurance rules and have been proved right - it's a pain in the neck for people who only drive a car occasionally. I'd have happily paid tax to have it sat on the road with MOT but only insure it for odd days here and there. So really, the government are missing out on revenue because I've refunded the tax, will not re-tax, will not pay for insurance of any kind (with associated tax), neither will I be buying fuel for it. I bet there are thousands of people across the country deciding not to bother running their older cars.

Haha, eco-clutching is fun, I had the exact same when mine was playing up. I quickly learned only to depress it for the briefest moments and often had some higher-than-desired-speed parking maneovres!

Are there any decent scrap yards near you? Might be worth trying to get a second hand one to give you a reprieve, then research at leisure. Had you tried bleeding through with new fluid, I know that can help give some life back to it for a while.

I'm not familiar with the 1.8 I'm afraid, but I know had issues with the one Eurocarparts supplied for my VR6. In the end I had the car off the road for a couple of days and took the old one in and compared it. The main difference was that the original MC had threaded holes for the bolts, but the new one didn't, so I had to use my own nut/bolts to secure it. It worked fine tho. Insist on ATE rather than anything nastier.

Miles faster than the VR! It's just a monster with a gorgeous power delivery. Bit of a barge on back road, but has rotten front tires and lowered suspensino, which won't help without uprated shocks. I prefer sedate cruising anyhoo! See ya soon hopefully (if Alex lets me bring the S4 that is! lol)
-
Good stuff. Yes, picked it up yesterday, it's amazing! Despite it's age, it drives like a dream, so I'm quiet happy! Hull tonight, should be a chilled cruise! No idea about the bung. As long as it's not leaking air and nothing is liable to come off it and into the intake, I doubt it'll be causing much harm.

Ouch! Is that it running properly now?!

Classic is usually out for me one one of two counts. Twi driving convictions in 5 years, no garage for the car. Portent, who was that that mirrored the NCB? It's such a common sense thing, but doesn't seem mainstream. Could try that... :) Pic of my new(er) car. It's sublime! Nowhere near as much fun as the Corrado on back roads tho. I suppose 1.5tonnes is never going to handle like a hot hatch. -

I've heard good things about POR, will order some. I want it in yellow for the shocks tho and can't find any. I suppose I can paint over the POR tho, so will be fine :) Clear stuff for the body -

You're on :) lol, cheers! -
Well, for now anyway :( I'm picking up an Audi S4 B5 tomorrow, and can't insure the Rado for a reasonable amount without NCB, so parking her up for the winter. 4.5 years and never left me stranded. Never not started no matter how cold. Been all round France and then another trip to Bosnia. 70,000miles in the 4.5 years. Ploughs through snow like a tank Never missed a beat on LPG I'm feeling very sad, but this is the perfect chance to do things i couldn't when running her. Painting shocks and calipers is top on list. Waxoiling bits of the underside is next. Painting a couple of scuffs on paint, fitting window rollers. Plenty to keep my busy in the winter. Anyway, here's a gratuitous shot of her on her last drive. Weather was gorjus!

I was going to say 'I'll give you bum', but that would be wrong on too many levels... I'm in Hull that weekend and got hotel booked and stuff. :( Scone's an option tho :) -

That weekend is out for me :( Plus, I might not be allowed anway as I've went got another car and the Rado is being replaced for winter :) -
Have you tried Avivia directly online? Get a quote online, if it's not a million miles away, phone them up, they ususally can bring it down some more. I've helped arrange insurance for a few people this year and Aviva comes up trumps. My VR6 with 6points and some past history, with LPG 7years NCB - £750. Transfering to my new '99 S4 for £90 more. That can't be a bad deal!

MFA 2 - Fuel Economy - What is your reading ?

Oxygen Senson - Lamba sensor. You can get these in Eurocarparts, but I'd ensure it's Bosch. Knock sensor - Euro should be able to provide this too. The Air Mass sensor - I am assuming it's what I can a MAF and that might be a bit more tricky, prob best pick up a second hand one. Get this stuff done and you're car will be transformed! -

meeee...preferably before end of Oct as the old girl might be taken into hibernation when tax expires. :)
