  1. Signed. In my humble opinion, I am more environmentally friendly by driving old cars that few people want to buy. I create no demand in the market. I fix things rather than buying complete new components. Everyone focuses on the emissions a car produces, but rarely do you hear about the footprint of the complete supply chain associated with that car. This throw away culture with cars is something that should be stopped....but then, the world would stop (not literally), because jobs would be lost, economies would crash and we'd be in big trouble. The fact is we need to kill the world to keep 'growing', so they can try all they like, we ain't saving anything. Despite all this, I do like the fact that my LPG cars produce significantly less toxic emissions and run on a by-product of oil rather than being the purpose of the drilling etc..., that my milk bags use significantly less raw materials than plastic bottles and that my roof insulation comes from recycled bottles. Rant over.
  2. Don't tell me anymore, just gets me worked up...! ;)
  3. For 'test drive', i read 'joy-ride'. There's accidents and sheer f=-ing stupidity. I can't see this being an accident in the true sense of the word!
  4. What a mangled mess this is. Would love to see how they cops talk their way out of this one. Rather than speak about investigating conduct, they are focussing on changing guidelines?! Amazes me! "A Greater Manchester Police spokesman refused to reveal details of how the crash happened. He said that "as a result of the incident, GMP is reviewing its policy on officers test driving cars"." Is this a 'cop' out???!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-16716617
  5. Ouch! Same as Elliot, I hate giving my cars to anyone. Looking forward to seeing the car on the Ultras when refurbed! If you carry a collapsable axle stand, you'll always be able to swap round and be guaranteed to fit the spare no matter what tyre is flat :)
  6. As above, looking for a starter for 93 Vr6. If anyone round the Central Belt has one, even better. Couple in Classifieds, but from over a year ago, Thank you! J :)
  7. Glad you are okay. In all seriousness, this is a very fair comment, but so hard to do. I know I've been 'jumped on' by animals, and always start to swerve then stop. I'm getting better, it might one day save my life. The story I was told was similar to this - someone put an RS2 into a ditch for a rabbit. They swerved, touched the verge, spun and landed in a ditch. Ever since, I try to always remember that. Not sure about cows and deer tho. I don't want to think about that :(
  8. Haha, my cough was only an apologetic cough because some people might think it bodgy to have one of the top supports missing! You've made good progress. The tabs where the 10mm's screw into at the top of the chassis leg should bend back pretty easily. With use the amount you can tighten them reduces, so take it easy with them. A bit of locktite might not go amiss, something I'm going to do next time because they do loosen a bit. I doubt the chassis legs have moved, but you'll know soon enough when you line up the new slam panel - I don't think it will tho. So def looks like you only need bumper, bonnet, lights, grill and...water pipe. The crossmember looks fine. If you don't want the hassle of respraying different cokloured panels, tornado red panels always come up on ebay and so on. Anyway, looks like you've got it in hand, you'll feel dead chuffed when you put it all back together! Tip with bumper - locate the rear most bolts on each side first hand tight. Then it's easier to line the front ones by moving the bumper from side to side. Not as easy the other way round.
  9. *cough. My rad top left support (that bolts with a 10mm to the slam panel) is lost in action. It's never caused in issue in 4years :) Not sure about fan tho. Yeah, getting it all off it a pain because it'll be stressing bolts in odd ways and so on, but rebuild should be easier.
  10. It's a load of baloney. If Germany and other countries manage with pressed plates etc.. why can't we? Don't believe ANPR can't read them, it's legislation gone OTT. I've heard the cops say to people that their plates were difficult to read and was very very tempted to tell them they should not be in the police as a 4year old would not have an issue. But then, you don't need any qualifications to be in the police, so most of them probably need big letters.
  11. I had similar damage on mine years ago. I bought a knackered one with a few days MOT on it. Swap the parts over in a day, and scrapped it. I'm sure I'll get murdered for suggesting it, but worth it to keep yours going if taken from something beyond repair. This'll fix really easily, 10mm, 17mm, 13mm, screwdriver, pliers for bonnet cable, jack, maybe 16mm socket for engine mount if the cross member is bent. Piece of cake. it's just a big meccano set tbh, and long term better than claiming insurance as well. Good luck! :)
  12. I take it by the fuel pump. it doesn't drive and therefore would need trailered/recovered somewhere? Do you know when the last tax/MOT was? Thanks, J
  13. I'm sure I looked for Porsche ones before as they would blend in nicely, but gave up. Something I'd like to do is fit the wiper schooshers to the wiper, ala Peugeot 406(?). I'm sure the wipers have it integrated, it's jsut a case of running the flexy up to them. Reduces the dry wipe on those days where there is loads of salt on a damp road. Anyway Mr Jimpy, where've you been hiding?!
  14. That's gorgeous! Get him to put a new MOT, check it starts, engine doesn't smoke, it goes in all gears, doesn't pulls all over the road and it stops then offer £1500. £1900 is just too steep in this climate.
  15. Mine is just about to touch 190k and ran just fine before I took it off the road. Very little rot (just a small amount on the arches, but it's been like that since I got it). I've always kept on top of things, replacing as they get worn out and been round Europe twice in last two years. Miles doesn't mean much. My way of looking at it is that if it looks nice and drives well, it'll probably be fine. At 190k it should be fairly easy to weed out the dogs - it's either about to die because of miles, or it's been well looked after and got plenty life in it still. Maybe a bit simplistic, but usually works.
  16. Doh! Yeah, lets get a wee meet going before easypops is fully engaged with nappy changing!
  17. Even if it does go up to 80, i'll not drive much more than 80 anyway. Fuel consumption starts getting silly (I do lots of long journeys). 77mph is the best compromise between speed and economy in my book. On the continent anyway... :)
  18. Set of Solitudes or Speedlines, get rid of the poo from the bonnet and this will look gorgeous!
  19. Mine is at 131k now, drive perfectly apart from a slight thunk when going on and off the power. Will be bushes somewhere along the line, but I can live with it. I generally get 21mpg, but that's on LPG, so probably about 23/24mpg on petrol. S4's are cheap as chips and so much car for the money! Or Cat-D RS4's...
  20. S4 is great, here's my personal experience of it. Pro's Grip is phenomenal, you can drive it in the wet like it's dry. Will go up any hill in snow Very quiet, great cruiser Comfortable Pretty fast (nothing special, but on a drive to Fort William, the power ratio was just perfect tbh) Seems very reliable - 10k in 3 months without a hiccup. Cons Handles like a 'pig on roller skates' when standard (quote someone used on SRS forum, but totally apt! Runs out of steam at 5.5k which is a pain (although KO4's with RS4 injection solve it - at the cost! Too many gears - constantly changing, which is a pain after the Rado's nice long ones. Not actually that spacious for an estate Brakes are pants Despite cons, I love it, best car for doing lots of miles. Just not much fun on the twisties. Drove a B5 RS4 the other day tho - was quite a beast. Was running 450bhp and felt like it was tearing up the tarmac. It had a rear ARB and handled brilliantly.
  21. Great kit, well worth it if your handle is broken or not - it will one day!
  22. Congratulations, lovely piece of news to start the New Year :)
  23. Jut reading through, I had the same issue with my 312 TT fronts. They were so poor, despite having decent pads/discs and being bled. I fitted braided hoses to the front and suddenly they were the brakes I wanted! Reckoning the front hoses were original, and whilst looking okay on the outside, were deteriorated and probably expanding under pressure. I got them cheap from Amazon. Worth trying out.
  24. Alex - I took mine off the road when I got the S4 and regret it. It's in a garage gathering mould (it's damp - nothing I can do sadly). I just miss the fun of it. The S4 is great, but very sedate and can be a bit dull. I miss the point and go fun of the Rado. Plus cars hate being off the road. If you have problems now, you'll have more when you put her back on! Don't do it! :)
  25. Just tried this but it wouldn't quote because of the insurance grouping (17+) and age of car....hmmm...
