1. At he end of the day Rados are worth what effort and money the last owner put into it. Its not fair to value on mlieage of a modern classic but that of history and ownership, also trim. The lad selling my car wanted 5k he ended taken 3k but I will put double of that amount back into the car to get it back up to factory standards and if I ever sell it then I would ask what I felt was fair. I would just keep the car as only going one way if didnt sell. The few for sale are mostly wrecks, its rare to see a well sorted one and in my opinion a good one should be in the regions of 7k and even plus.
2. Hi all, My Rado VR6 is shortly going in for a complete supension over hall including B4 shocks , Eibach springs and top mounts on all corners, new rear axle bushing and the four bushings on the front beam subframe and droplinks wishbones etc. The old supension has HandR + Koni shocks and were fitted in 2003 alongside a front Vibra technics engine mount(only front). So my question is would you get a set of three new stock engine mounts ?. I know the VT has rave reviews but some saying especially in their 40s like me they would prefer stock and it must be getting old if fitted in 2003 ! Any comments welcome would you swop it out?
3. Im not sure when the change date was, I do know a lot of people have modified this hose with an oil catch can or leave an open hose and seal the hole in the intake boot, negatives of this mod are it can lead to a rough idle and fumes in your engine bay which can be sucked into your heater vents . Its a bloody exspensive part of the car with new parts that construct that area. Pcv vavle 7M0128101 £68 / Solenoid blue vacum vavle 034133517 £120/ 3 way hose 021133518H £90 / Oil breather Hose 021103493A £30 . You will notice there is a plug connector on the oil breather hose if you pull it out you will notice it is actually blanked in the UK and does nothing , in colder climates overseaes this part had a heater to warm the gasses on a cold start. For those that are not aware these parts recirculate nasty gasses to let the engine burn them rather then been released into the atmosphere. It is described as a regulated catalyst.
4. I have not long purchased one of these hoses and still have the old one that has a bit of brown discoloring on the small top hose. They are really exspensive new £90 part number 021133518H , you can order off VW heritage classics/ international . It is attached to the PCV valve, a light blue vacum valve solenoid part number 034133517 and aslo the throttle body. they are only on the late VR6 models. All you need to do is remove the one end of the air intake boot its a doddle to fit. Is your oil breathe aftermarket that you have fitted that connects from your pcv vavle to airbox hose it looks different from mine.
5. If you can get to Brum there is an Insurance Thatcham approved fitter that did my Ai606 for a £120 nippers , I supplied the immoboliser for that price of course. Really sound bloke and been in business 20 years.
6. The stealer said they have been obselete for 4 years so I guess you had last pickings , not sure how you work out if the part is an early code Vr6 my Rado is a 95 run out model. Would be good for fellow members to know if the passat ones fit .
7. Today I purchased the fuel lines to the left side of the VR6 engine above the serpentine belt which wasn't easy as the stock ones are now apparently obselete. I wanted to keep oringinal rather then aftermarket. After much searching on the web I managed to purchase one from Germany and the other from a car part hoarder in the UK, both are old but unused stock which I aint chuffed about forking out the best part of 70 quid and not in packaging. One thing I did notice was the fuel lines looked the same as Passat VR6 which are available from VW classic parts that are cheaper and new in the box which is reassuring been a fuel line ! So part numbers as followed for x2 hoses Corrado 021133988K 021133990K Passat 021133988J 021133990J Has anyone had a punt on the passat hoses to see if they fit the Corrado they look just the same on OEMEPEC.com ????? Cheers

Heater blower

Did the resistor pack fit off ebay, thanks. I take it your Rado VR6 is the late model. When you say controoler do you mean the handle you pull of or the bit the handle slots on to ?

Heater blower

Hi if any other members advice would be grateful My fan blower is working on setting 1,3 and 4 , 2 there is absolute nothing. The last owner had the heater matrix done and also a brand new heater motor, also noticed 3 repairs in the last two years on resistor pack, all the rapairs were carried out within two years. I have changed the heater dials round with no success. Is it possible that they purchased a fan motor with only 3 settings. What do you guys think will fix setting 2 on the fan control . maybe the contact on the dial ? Thanks
11. Yeah Porsche are ****bags , think the boxters and caymans suffered from the same problems to. Must admit I do still have a softspot for the 996 such a great car to drive . The good thing about Rados is they are pretty cheap for parts compared to other sportier brands and pretty rare cars these days to be fair.
12. Yeah the scary thing is all 911 manafuctured from 1998 - 2009 are prone to several catastrophic engine failures that lead to a 10k engine rebuild , Turbo and Gt variants do not apply as a differnet engine block, it is very common none of this only happens to 5 percent and we are talking low mileage cars here. I would love a 964 could of got a white one for 12k back in 2003 with navy interior, talking of leaky engines bays these just leak everywhere your engine looks mint compared to one. One good way to keep your engine sweet is not going into high revs in till the oil has warmed up.
13. I had a Porsche 911 996 a few years back and it started drinking oil and sooty exhaust tip at 67k on the clock, full history in mint condition , had the cylinders boroscoped and hey presto slight scored cylinders, op said might be ok for a couple of years but will need a 10k engine rebuild at some point , this is very common in a 996 and 997 , Porsche get away with murder with early flat six water cooled blocks. The most reliable engine I have ever have owned is my R129 Merc M113 V8 before they merged with Chrysler. If you have really bad bore scoring or ovulation you might well hear piston slap.
14. Would it not be worth getting the bores inspected for ovulation and scoring if carrying out a head rebuild , mine was drinking about half a litre ever 1k but ok now that I have changed the oil sump and gasket , last owner had the car that low he smashed the bottom of the sump on a speed bump. One thing I have noticed is there is a fair bit of blowback oil coming out of bottom of oil breather hose where it joins the intake , even though I have a new pcv valve and breather hose, could be the valve seals prehaps. Or could be a side effect of having a Shrick VGI inlet manifold.
15. That does sound a fair price with clutch included what is the head refurb include ?
16. Def one of those jobs that is worth getting a fixed price and calling experienced VW specialist. The last owner had it done down south it would prob be 20/30 % cheaper in the Midalnds.
17. I wouldnt get to overwhelmed by it old cars always leak a bit of oil in the engine bay. If you want to be proactive you could have a compression test for the head gasket which wouldnt cost much. I have attached a receipt to give you an idea of what would be replaced if the timing chains were done. Will also be really good for the cars value.
18. Would crank seal be commonly changed when changing the timing belt because I believe the gearbox has to be removed.
19. Run your finger under the Manifold breather hose and see if there is any oil , its not a huge lot of oil but over time can lead to an oily engine bay.
20. Looking more like £1600 for parts and laboour for new seals chains guides etc. My new Rado chains done by the last owner and that was how much it cost him on receipt at a VW specialist /independent september 2018.I would not use a mobile mechanic for a large job like this personally. Are you sure its not coming from the oil sump or not the oil cooler , also oil filter housing check pressure switches and figure of 8 gasket. Also a fair bit of oil over time can leak out of the breather hose attached to the PCV vavle and intake as the engines are getting old.

25. Its a nightmare I have two flatbed pickups I use at works and its on the cards in Birmigham. All it will do is congest the main road circling the charge zone and move the pollution closer to the residential area(steering around the congestion charge). The whole idea is a new tax to replace the loss on income on cigs and alchol with the changing generation of snowflakes that stay in eat a pack crisps getting fat while posting on there facebook page. For ****e sake the rados have a catalaitic converter its a con and I hate that London Mayor setting an example to all the other major cities. We dont have an underground like London we dont like catching the bus , I dont want a new car that is a bubble piece of throw away crap.
