+1 /\ I can see improvements in idle and part throttle smoothness from cleaning out ancient injectors, but cleaning carbon off valves and piston crowns does bugger all really.

I'd get the B12 kit as it only drops 25mm or so. Bilstein know what they're doing more than VW do ;)

Sunroof/Moonroof project again (probably 200 times you had this before)
Kevin Bacon replied to Rooker's topic in Exterior
1) The chances of it happening again with new parts are small. The reason they break in the first place is they weren't greased properly at the factory and the plastic feet on the cable guides overheat and bind in the channels, which causes the guide to shear in half (always the passenger side for some reason). If VAG's "sliding mechanism" grease is used during assembly and for regular maintenance, it should be fine. 3) Make sure it's a B4 estate as it's the closest match to the Corrado's roof profile. Be warned though, these break in exactly the same way as the Corrado roof does. 4) Completely different subframe and the panel is miles out. It sits proud in the middle by a huge amount. -
Time to get mine onto Ebay then :D

I think he's from Holland Kip, so English isn't his first language :D

Or just 'accidentally' slowly veer onto the rumble strip and throw up gravel and assorted other debris up onto their bonnet. That makes them pull back every time :D

There's a lot of angst, anger and frustration on the roads these days, so I wouldn't take it personally. I get the same tailgating, blocking out junctions, no one letting me join a dual carriageway etc (all the usual schitt we encounter on our daily commutes) in my Rover 1.4 and Alfa 147. Arguably 2 cars right at the very bottom of the pecking order :D In 9 years of Corrado ownership, 1% was encountering pr1cks, 90% was nonchalance and 9% compliments / acknowledgment.

Call that a build thread? THIS is a build thread...
Kevin Bacon replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
Can't be bothered to read all 29 pages. Guessing it's a full resto? It didn't look too shabby to begin with!! And I reckon he spent more time taking pictures than he did restoring it!! -
Yeah move off in 2nd Dr. Does yours actually let you select 1st? My old 5 series Tourer didn't. It's purely for moving off so the 'gate' was 2 to 5. The "Snow" setting on mine was literally just moving off in second :D That plus the traction control usually gets you moving OK.

Does anyone else feel like rebooting their life?
Kevin Bacon replied to Portent's topic in Off-topic Chat
A good redundancy package is often a good way out. Take a few months off to reassess your life and then move on. -
My Kleber Quadraxer All Seasons were fine in the snow this morning. We just don't get enough snow to justify full winters imo. They don't feel any different to the Conti TS800s I ran on the rado.

Compomotive MO5 on G60 which size and offset would be best?
Kevin Bacon replied to ausgolfer's topic in Exterior
ET35s fitted over my 330mm AP Racing brakes with room to spare. The one thing Compos are good for is brake clearance, but at 10.5Kg a peice, they make a Corrado feel like it has lead feet. -
Maybe because hers has been dry for too long? See what I did there? eh? eh?

Everyone knows handbrake turns and low sumps make girls moist.

You allow 1 day for people to respond about an obscure alarm before getting impatient? Behave. Have you bothered yourself to contact GT alarm directly? They're not hard to find on Google. I had the same issue with an N plate BMW and it's ancient Sigma alarm (obsolete). I picked up a device called a telephone and called BMW and guess what, they gave me the number of a place to call to get a new fob. Simples. The internet makes people lazy.
-
They do help with that a bit but it's in the braking where you feel the main benefit of winter tyres.

So it was a 16V Turbo then? £5+K insurance for that sounds about right then if similar circumstances to the OP! I would never be desperate enough to own ANY car that costs that much to insure! Things have changed for me though. After 9 years of paying ~1000 to insure a highly modded corrado, I now pay £200 :D

The real cost of a genuine VAG VR6 exhaust...
Kevin Bacon replied to Joss_Durnan's topic in Engine Bay
If I still had a Corrado I'd import one without a second's hesitation. It was by far the best made, easiest to fit & best sounding exhaust I ever heard on a VR6. Nothing else other than standard would appeal to me personally. Well, it'd have to be the TechTonics as it's half the weight and price of the standard one! ---------- Post added at 12:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:37 PM ---------- http://techtonicstuning.com/main/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_138_139_301&products_id=663 £402 + shipping and import duties. So shipping + 3% duty on car parts + 20% VAT. It's worth the extra outlay over Milltek and Jetex all day long. -
Typically, I chucked a load of TDK-SAs in the bin a few years ago!!!
-
Well if you have a Dragon, absolutely get the 45s onto tape! Maxell and TDK used to do some pretty special metal tapes back in the day. Not sure if you can still get them though? I only had a lowly Yamaha tape deck but I was hard pressed to tell the difference between vinyl and recordings on TDK's finest.

The real cost of a genuine VAG VR6 exhaust...
Kevin Bacon replied to Joss_Durnan's topic in Engine Bay
Tried em all on a VR6 - Standard, Jetex, Milltek, SuperSprint, Magnex, Techtonics and custom x 3 or 4! The Jetex and Milltek both drone at motorway speeds under part load. The stainless wall thickness is thin, i.e. cheap grade metal. Jetex needs a bit of faff to get it to fit perfectly. Supersprint is a hybrid. Mild pipework, stainless boxes. Nice tone with no droning. Perfect fit (if you get the right rear silencer). Magnex - No droning either. Good quality system. Good fit. TechTonics Tuning - Thicker tube walls, Borla silencers, no drone at all. Lovely sound, perfect fit. Standard, well, it's standard :D -
Still got an SL12! Nice one! Hang onto that!

The SEAS Lotus reference are the best 6.5" components I've heard, by a country mile. You may be able to get a used set on the TalkAudio classifieds. They're not cheap new! Rainbows as Abdul says, aren't all that unless you go for their high end stuff. I quite like the JL Audio ZR650-CSi. RRP is £600ish on those but I've seen them for £350ish on the bay. A blatant plug, but I have a nice JL 12" sub in a JL slot ported cabinet and a JL 4 channel amp up for grabs if you're interested? New and never used :D Only reason for sale is I no longer have a Corrado or a car worth putting it in.

The only wire needed from the ECU is an rpm signal, which IIRC, is still the thin green/black wire in the ECU harness. Can't remember the pin number. The Schrick controller then just needs power and ground and that's it.

Mmmmm, a topic close to my heart :D Why is there no 45rpm? Single speed motor or no gearing changes available? Most decks you can lift the platter off and move the drive belt up or down to a different pulley. This is a fantastic deck for the money. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Richer-Sounds-Project-Essential-Black-Manual-Drive-Turntable-2-Speeds-33-45-/121005463287?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_HomeAudioHiFi_Turntables&hash=item1c2c7cd6f7 OK, it's not full on Audiophile grade but the platter is heavy for a deck in this price point and it does sound very good. I do like the balanced sound of Ortofon MM pick-ups, which it comes with as standard. Buy it!
