  1. Drilled in the correct location last night - key barrel still would not come out. Drilled a bigger hole, key barrel still would not come out. Ended up "loosing my rag" with it & beating up the whole assembly with a lump hammer. :mad: Just ordered new parts this morning !!
  2. Ian - my advice is to change it as soon as possible. My lock didn't feel very worn at all - although looking at it, I can see that it was. I'm now in posession of all the info that I need to remove the key barrell. Correct fitting proceedure is to fit the electrical switch to the lock housing first, then fit this to the steering column & fit the key barrel last.

Cheers for the advice Kev, my car's been off the road for nearly 2 weeks now. :( VW began by sending me the wrong lock housing. :x It took 2 days to arrive & 3 days until I had time to do the job, then realised I had the wrong housing. 2 further days for the correct one to arrive, which I attempted to fit last night. :? I'm going to cut up the old housing tonight & see exactly where I need to drill the hole in the new one. After that, I'll be an expert on VW steering locks. :lol:
  4. That's the only remedy that I can think of. The lock housing & key barrel are both brand new - I've just assembled them in the wrong order. I should have mounted the steering lock onto the car before fitting the key barrel to it. On most cars that I've worked on before, the key barrel is removable from the lock housing without causing damage to either.
  5. Here's a question - I need to remove the new lock barrel from my new steering lock. How do these items seperate ?? Any help appreciated - steering lock will not fit onto the steering column with the lock barrel already installed
  6. Time to change your steering lock - your lock barrel sounds very worn. I'm changing mine at the moment due to the exact same symtoms. If your key will not turn at all then it is not the electrical switch at fault, it is the lock barrel.
  7. Silver Corrado spotted last night - just leaving the Warner Bros cinema complex on Kirkstall Road (Leeds) Not sure which model - I was walking home from work (my G60 steering lock tumbler has collapsed :( )

    My 1992 G60 has 2 x 2pin connectors. 1 black & 1 light grey - both positioned underneath the gear lever cover. exturbo2003 - your other 2pin connector should be there somewhere.

  13. The engines tend to be very well engineered. Each car is individual so a lower mileage one may not be any cheaper to run than a highish mileage one. Take each Corrado that you look at on it's merits. There are some very good ones out there & also some very bad ones. Avoid low mileage cars where the mileage cannot be confirmed - old MOT certificates, service history, etc (may have been "clocked"). Chargers need rebuilding approx every 50,000 miles, so look for evidence/certificate of rebuild.

    Like VR6 (Tom) said, It's possible to dismantle your existing lock tumblers & rebuild them to match your key. If your unsure how to do it, your local VW specialist or main dealer will do it for you. If you're getting new handles anyway, the place that your buying them from should be able to make them fit your existing key.
  15. FurkiG60 - have you removed the front wing shields or just trimmed them down ?? My car is about the same height as yours & my front tyres constantly rub on the plastic wing liners. I'd like to keep the front section of them as that supports the brake cooling ducts.

    When I worked for VW we used to change the fuel filters every 2 years (regardless of mileage). Each VW dealer has their own ideas but every 2 years seems quite reasonable.
  18. Hi soz, welcome to the forum. My old suspension was very worn so I threw it away. I'll be keeping the car until it "dies" anyway so I'm not too bothered about it's resale value. I don't think that lowering a car reduces it's value too much - when I bought mine, I was willing to pay extra for a car which had already been modified !!
  19. Bare minimum you'll have to do is to remove & clean out the boost pipes & intercooler.

    vr6 probs...

    Disconnect it & see if it makes a difference. Not sure on the VR but on the G60 there is also a black temp sensor (for the gauge). Put the plug from the blue (ECU) sensor onto the black sensor instead. If this cures your problem then the blue sensor is faulty.
  22. If your charger has been damaged you will loose some power. If your power is okay then your charger should be okay too.
