  1. Thanks again all. It got trailered to the local garage last night. They tried it this morning and lo and behold it fired first time! :brickwall: They're going to run VAGCOM on it and replace those relays which a couple of you mentioned for a start. I might get them to replace the CPS as well as they're not hugely expensive. I'll check the earths when I get the car home. Unfortunately I'm very time-poor at the moment as I moved house last Monday! Thanks again :salute:
  2. It finally died on Saturday for good :( Getting towed today to a local garage
  3. What a result. That's Alfa 3.0 24v territory with 12 fewer valves! :notworthy:
  4. I'd be flattered mate! Here's the whole set: http://www.flickr.com/photos/56332324@N ... 925925454/ I'll be getting a website up and running soon as I'm starting up a small photographic enterprise. If you want any of the images tweaked up in PS then let me know.
  5. Is using an orbital polisher a real no-no on plastic then?
  6. Cheers Andy. I just called up cleanyourcar.co.uk and ordered a Meg's 6.5 softbuff polishing pad and a 5" rotary backing plate. The guy that my Poorboys SSR2 would probably be OK. I've actually registered on DW so I'll have a look :)
  7. Some incompetent backed into the C the other day and they
  8. :shades: Why thank you :shades: I do like that shot but the road sign prevented it from making the shortlist. I like the colour one of the calendar submission quite a lot too. Maybe I should have submitted that instead! :
  9. Yeah, John at JMR took an instant dislike to them as they weren't hubcentric  so I've got some Eibach jobbies now which are much easier when you take the wheel on and off :)
  10. What a horrendous waste of a Corrado. :pukeright:
  11. Tiny but mighty: http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/produc ... /4872.html
  12. Doesn't sound too expensive to me? It's the labour that'll make up the bulk of the job unless you're doing it yourself
  13. I phoned up my local VW garage about my problem and he reckoned the most likely culprit was the cam sensor as they tend to go more than fuel pumps in his experience of dubs of this age. Still, nothing's ever simple with Corrados!
  14. The fuel pump in the VR apparently has a one way valve in it to retain pressure between the pump and the engine so the fuel system is essentially primed for when you want to turn the engine on. If this is on the blink it can lead to starting issues which you describe. I have a similar problem: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=71039
  15. My Pug 205 TD was an ace commuting car. 55mpg, parts are peanuts and they're as reliable as anything. The ride is like a magic carpet too - plenty of bump eating travel! I sold my 125,000 mile car for £800 - it was bought within an hour of putting it up for sale
  16. No surprise there then :brickwall:  I'll just keep driving it and hope for the best for the moment!
  17. Recovery man turned up: Car too low Recovery man #2 turns up, :censored: ing car starts. Then my darling fiance
  18. No I bl00dy didn't run out of petrol you cheeky get  I thought fuel pump instantly - purely a hunch too. I've got an A4 file full of receipts from when the car was new and it's still on the original fuel pump AFAIK so 15 years and 125,000m aint bad if it's that!
  19. Thanks very much for the thorough reply Kev. The trouble is that we move house in 2 weeks and the last thing I've got time for is diagnosing and curing car problems :( It's always started like that from cold or hot - makes no odds. I don't hear the fuel pump prime either but having said that I never have done and I've listened for it before. I don't have VAGCOM but I think I'll try the relay job as that's easy to diagnose and easy to rectify - thanks for the spares offer :) If it's more involved than that I'll tow it to the local garage I think - it's only a mile down the road
  20. I took it all the way to Silverstone and back yesterday, a round trip of about 230 miles and it performed flawlessly. Then I get in it this morning and it won't start. :censored: It turns over very strongly so it's definitely not the battery or starter. It's an early coilpack VR for the record although it's had a new distributor arm wotsit quite recently. It's always turned over quite a lot before it actually catches but I've never had it not start before. Any ideas before I call out search and rescue and have it towed to a garage? :help:
  21. Wow, hope it was a 1 off problem!
  22. I had a Newman in my G60 and it was fine without a vernier.
  23. I wish my better half would embrace the idea of a nice MK3 VR. Air-con would be useful at this time of the year!
  24. Thanks all :) I'm a big fan of the original Speedlines Coolrado : I fixed it in the end by joining up all available yellow and red wires - now the stereo works without a key! I'll stick a couple of pics on the calendar thread too
