Fix it... Sounds like a nice car apart from the (ahem) engine..
-
Looks very nice, welcome!

It just sounds like cable adjustment, as steve says.

You really need a compression test to be absolutely sure, mayonaise in the filler cap can be caused by condensation. Head Gasket replacement is not a particularly more difficult job on the VR6 than any other engine. Assuming it does need doing, I'd just go for a complete gasket set, to include valve stem seals whilst the head is off and get the head resurfaced if necessary.

Surely you could have cancelled the insurance whilst its been sat around, thats serious money to be shelling out on a (very nice btw!) car you can't drive.
-
Just over £300, 32, fully comp, ok area, kept on drive 8k miles a year. Admiral Multicar. Minor Mods declared.

Perfectly possible for on oilway to leak, its just another port in the head/block. They are normally sleeved though but leaking is merely less likely than impossible. Your mate needs to clean the area up, leave it a while then re-examine it, to remove the possiblility that the rocker gasket is leaking and oil is collecting lower down.

Yet another unenforcable law, the list grows longer....

I've got a Mk2 8v GTi as a 2nd car, I love driving it as its a brilliant car. I bought it so that I could take the Corrado off the road every so often, ie to change rear beam bushes, exhaust, brake upgrades etc. Its really useful to have another option if a job takes too long and you need the car for work. I also use the Golf for carting my mountain bike around in and for runs to the tip, dog transporter etc. Insurance wise, I went for an Admiral multicar policy, I now pay less to insure both cars than I did previously for the Corrado alone! Overall, obviously it is more expensive than one car, this month I've had 2 MOTs at £50 each, 2 lots of tax at £180 each and (worse) 2 exhausts (I wont mention prices  ), the insurance runs out on Thursday (another £500+) not to mention the two impending oil changes! Also you only have 1/2 the time to lavish on them each!

Cheers Goldie, you will. :) I'm about to go away for a month (working...kind of) but I'll be up for some more meets on my return.

Hmmm I wonder why that was disconnected then! Good luck..

Well I've been on here for three years now, so about time I started one of these threads. She's pretty standard really, cosmetically only the stance has been altered by the use of Koni/H&R springs. She's had a few breathing mods, BMC, big bore throttle and now a Magnex exhaust and pulls really well. My future plans are to get a few paint issues sorted, I've got 288s and audioscape pods etc waiting to go on too.

General opinion, waste of space! If only it were that easy... :)

Brilliant Clip, sooo smooth. Awful news :(

I paid about a tenner each for INA(OEM) ones from GSF.

It is... :?

Was the replacement brand new or second hand? Quite possibly another dodgy one if second hand.

Can't help specifically Goldie, but they are fantastic cars. I enjoy driving my 1990 8v Gti as much as the Corrado VR6. Mines got a suspect clutch and a tired exhaust system but its great. I'd take it anywhere, in fact it gets more comments than the Corrado. My interior is 17 years old but it looks like its never been sat in. So practical, so enjoyable to drive, so capable, even by todays standards.

for men only - a different foto shooting (NSFW!)

Good find, she's a fox :D -
Bl00dy BMW drivers... :?

I'm fairly sure I've read on here that they are the same. I'm certainly going to try and find a Passat one as my Rado one is getting tatty.
-
Yep, very common. Even 2nd hand ones go for up to £50. I got a 2nd hand one as mine had been broken in about 10 places by an alarm "fitter", I reinforced mine on the rear face by supergluing thin bits of plastic to it in the stressed areas.
-
Make sure you do it on a warm engine, its no different in that respect to any other engine but some people forget and wonder why some cylinders are low. You need those tappets nice and full of oil. Its much the same as any other engine really, post up your results, its always interesting.

Irwin Bolt grippers are amazing things, I can't believe some of the bolts I've taken out with them. Not cheap but in my case they paid for themselves the first time I used them.

They didn't call that model a GTi on the continent iirc. I think it was just rip off Britain called it a GTi.
