    steamy windows

lol, someone told me to use eggs when I had a leaky rad on my Rover, I thought they were taking the p***, guess not. I ended up getting a bottle of radweld but only used half the bottle and it worked a treat.

    MFA resets itself

Does the time reset itself as well? If so then it may be your battery is just about to pack it in. Mine started doing this then a few weeks later, needed a battery, changed it then never had a problem again. If the time doesnt reset I would say its most likely an internal problem on the mfa. edit: just reread and noticed that the time is resetting, doh
  6. jims16v, what prog did u use for encoding/compressing to divx? Im hoping to get a load of dv footage of the Scottish rr day on Sunday and will need to reduce the size.
  7. Ill definately be going the motorway I reckon, dont think the cars up for more "interesting" roads. Might even leave a bit early as ill probably have to keep the speed down but ill let you know for the end of the week.
  8. Article was great, like most have said a bit short but better than nothing. 8) Also good to hear them talking some sense about the speed cameras.
  9. If anyone wants to know how it works, follow this link. It shows the peloquin diff, but thats almost the exact same thing as a Quaife anyway. http://www.houseofthud.com/cartech/EC-P ... ticle.html
  10. My 16v had 16" rims fitted from new, afaik they were Audi alloys, probably fitted by the dealers but i know of at least one other C owner that had them fitted from new as well. The original tyre size was 215/40/16 but you can also fit 205/40/16. The 215's give a slightly harsher ride but I thought the car drove slightly better with them, though I think it would really be down to personal preference. Welcome to the forum.
  11. Are you booked in? My car wont be making the rollers as Star are mobbed for the next fortnight. :( There getting to do my clutch as they quoted me £235 compared to £550 ish from Bedrock, dunno what thats about.
  12. Yeah the VR clutch is a strong old beast. Uprated ones not really required unless you are running some very major mods, in which case a centreforce or Helix Autosport kit might be in order. Funny how they judder when cold....but that only seems to happen when you change out the original factory fit one. My clutch has always had a judder since I got the car, about 6 months and 5000 miles ago. Pretty sure it was the original but I dont know if it could have been on its way out already that long ago? Judders a lot worse now, even though it only slips with the foot down. Smells pretty bad too.
  13. There was a post a while ago about the possibility of carbon scuttle panels and I seem to remember there was good interest, so it may be a go'er. Id be in dependant on price as my cash is going elsewhere just now.
  14. How much? Is it the full length or same as standard? In PVW so I take it its for RHD models?
  15. VW specialist out in Motherwell, cant fault there work at all but I think they have put there prices up recently. :?
  16. Anybody know the lifespan for Konis? I think mine have been on for about 4 years.
  17. No idea about the strain, its not exposed to the elements like a bike chain though. Tam? Donaldsons? If so I got them to rebuild the cylinder head on my 16v, when I got the vr I took it to Bedrock for a few things but havent really had any general repairs required. I think after this though the next thing will be the brakes, ill do the fronts myself but probably take it to Donaldsons for the rears.
  18. Nope, he said busy for a fortnight so I think im gonnae take it to them on the rr day and were going to run my cousins alfa on the rollers instead. Will leave the car with them till its done. :?
  19. Star Performance are getting the parts in, but id imagine they get it direct. Think its just under £600, also listed on TSR's website at £562, including the fitting kit. Phoned to pay the deposit earlier on, they are very busy for the next fortnight so looks like my car is out of use for a bit. :(
  20. The diff and fitting kit is about £600, and its about 8 hours labour so with the clutch as well and fitting it should be just over £1000. Not bad considering what my usual vw specialist said for just the clutch. Star performance said about £235 all in for the clutch and fitting. 8)
  21. Not necessary at all, im actually not getting the chain or tensioners touched as there not noisy at all. Its just a case of replace if worn which mine dont seem to be.
  22. Looks like Star Performance have got the job, good price and im getting a standard clutch and Quaife diff. Jim reckons the standard clutches are very good anyway (mine lasted 105k) and the chains dont ever need touched, just the tensioners when they wear. Next day delivery on the parts so should be ready for the rr day. :D
  23. The vr's traction control is very basic and only works below 3000rpm and 30mph(?) It probably is working but I dont think many people would notice if it wasnt.
  24. At the moment looking like an uprated sachs clutch (150ish from c&r, standard sachs is about 95) and possibly the quaife diff. 6 speed box is a nono as its about £1500 just for the gearkit, not to mention fitting. Flywheels are also very expensive (from ridgewayracing at least) so ill probably go for the turn2 crank pulley at some point in the future, as its easy enough to change seperatly.
